Everyone Wanted to See That Taliban Guy Dead: Colleagues of Marine A Said They'd Have killed Him too > Because Saving Him Would Have Risked British Lives

  • Sgt. Alexander Blackman's comrades spoke after court cleared him of murder
  • The former Marines said he 'took responsibility' for killing the insurgent
  • One even claimed HQ implied to Sgt Blackman on his radio that he should kill
  • The commando, referred to as Marine A at his court martial, had his murder conviction downgraded to manslaughter because he had combat stress
Daily Mail UK, 17 March 2017

Comrades of Sergeant Alexander Blackman (pictured) said yesterday he shot a wounded Taliban fighter to protect junior colleagues

Comrades of Sergeant Alexander Blackman spoke out after the Appeal Court cleared him of murder and downgraded his conviction to manslaughter.
The former Marines said he 'took responsibility' for killing the insurgent whom 'everybody wanted dead' because saving him would have risked British lives.

One even claimed HQ implied to Sgt Blackman on his radio that he should kill the man, and a former commander admitted it was not the only time such action had been carried out in the war.

The commando, referred to as Marine A at his court martial, had his murder conviction downgraded to manslaughter because he had combat stress and could walk free within days.

The Appeal Court said yesterday a sentencing hearing would be heard next Friday.
This could lead to his immediate release because he has already served three and a half years.

Five judges ruled that he was not in his right mind when he shot the insurgent on September 15, 2011.

The court heard how he felt an immense responsibility to keep the 15 men under his command safe, even taking on exhausting extra patrols himself to do so.

Sergeant Rob Driscoll (top), who was leading a patrol nearby, overheard the radio conversation between Sgt Blackman and HQ about what to do with the injured Taliban. Sam Deen, one of the Marines on the fateful patrol, said they had all wanted to shoot him

Following the verdict on Wednesday, Sgt Blackman's former colleagues told BBC Panorama they were glad he shot the fanatic.

Many feared the insurgent had been deliberately sacrificed by the Taliban as 'human bait' to lure the Britons into a trap.

Sam Deen, one of the Marines on the fateful patrol, said they had all wanted to shoot him.

He suggested Sgt Blackman decided to do it himself to protect junior comrades, adding: 'I said I'd put one in his head. [A] few of the other lads said that as well.
'I think [Blackman] took the responsibility for the younger lads. He didn't do it in cold blood – he did it so we could draw a line in the sand.'

Sergeant Rob Driscoll, who was leading a patrol nearby, overheard the radio conversation between Sgt Blackman and HQ about what to do with the injured Taliban.

Louis Nethercott, a machine gunner with Sgt Blackman, said: 'It was bloody tough. There is a point at which he has had too much or seen too much or is too tired or too stressed'

Sam Deen (pictured) suggested Sgt Blackman decided to shoot the Taliban insurgent himself to protect junior comrades, adding: 'I said I'd put one in his head. [A] few of the other lads said that as well.'

He said no one wanted to risk sending a multi-million-pound air ambulance and crew, or vehicles along a road littered with bombs, to rescue the man.

He claimed he heard 'implied tasking' – an unspoken suggestion that the insurgent 'needed to pass away somehow'.
Sgt Driscoll added: 'Everyone wanted that guy to be dead.'

Speaking later to Radio 4's Today, he said: 'There was implied tasking. Everyone on that radio was sending out a signal to Al, 'Make it so it doesn't happen'.'

The commando, referred to as Marine A at his court martial, was not in his right mind when he shot the insurgent on September 15, 2011

Sgt Driscoll told Panorama: 'I'm glad Al did what he did, because all my guys went home. Maybe if he hadn't done that, I'd have been going to a few more funerals.'

Louis Nethercott, a machine gunner with Sgt Blackman, said: 'It was bloody tough. There is a point at which he has had too much or seen too much or is too tired or too stressed. None of us got hurt, so it was a successful day.'

Major Steve McCulley, commander of Sgt Blackman's J-Company, was asked by filmmaker Chris Terrill, who was with the unit: 'Would you think what happened was the only time that happened in the Afghan War?'
Major McCulley replied: 'No.'

  • Sgt Blackman's first legal team faces being sued for damages for not carrying out a psychiatric assessment that would have shown his mental disorder, preventing a murder conviction. Anthony Berry QC and junior barrister Peter Glenser were accused of incompetence. They did not comment last night..

HOW MAIL READERS' £800K FUNDED LEGAL FIGHT

Donations towards Sgt Blackman’s legal case flooded in after the Mail highlighted his plight in a front page story in September 2015 headlined ‘A Shameful Injustice’.

The biggest single amount came from businessman and political pollster Lord Ashcroft, who put £50,000 into the fighting fund to pay for a new team of lawyers led by Jonathan Goldberg QC.

The sum from the former Tory deputy chairman and treasurer pushed the overall total above £800,000. The tycoon, philanthropist and military historian is an authority on gallantry, and has assembled the world’s largest collection of Victoria Crosses.

Days after the Mail took up Sgt Blackman’s case, money started flooding in from readers all over the world. West End lyricist Sir Tim Rice joined the campaign, along with Major General John Holmes, a former director of Special Forces.

Every day, hundreds of envelopes arrived at the Mail’s offices. One contained simply a cheque for £5,000, but mostly there were cheques for £10 and £20 – with some pensioners apologising for not being able to give more.

NB:
Sgt Blackman was convicted under the Geneva Convention rules. which were made many years ago and are so OUT OF DATE these days.

WAR is different, especially dealing with these MAD fanatical terrorists...

Sgt Blackman conviction should be over-turned and his record in the Marines must be cleared to remove this crazy charge.
He and many like him are
incredibly BRAVE HEROS.

It is so wrong he can never return to the Marines and will always have a CRIMINAL RECORD!!....

Movies Taliban Killed UK Soldier >Family Wore Kilts @ Funeral.>His Best Friend Wore A Dress

This Man Wore A Dress To His Best Friend's Funeral. The Truth About Why Will Break You Down In Tears!

Three years ago, two best friends made a pact — a very strange pact to many outsiders, but to them it made perfect sense.

British soldier Kevin Elliot left for war in Afghanistan, his best friend Barry Delaney agreed that if Elliot was killed during war, Barry would wear a bright, tacky woman’s dress to the funeral.

BBC, 3 Aug 2019

Of course, much of the pact was just a joke — but when tragedy struck, Barry knew what he had to do. Private Elliott died in a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan.

Barry Delainey, the best friend of Private Kevin Elliott, who died in Afghanistan, wore a yellow dress to his funeral keeping a promise between the pair...

Private Elliott of the Black Watch was killed by insurgents while on foot patrol in the Babaji District of Helmand Province on 31 August .

The 24-year-old from Dundee Scotland, had been first to volunteer to protect his colleagues when they came under attack in the area.

Around 400 mourners turned out for his funeral in St Mary's Church including Mr Delainey who wore a bright lime green dress and pink knee length socks. The two friends had promised each other they would wear a dress at the funeral of whoever died first.

Private Elliott's father Sandy Elliott, told the funeral that he was "proud" of his son.

"Kevin was a grandson, a brother, a nephew, an uncle and a cousin, but more than anything he was our son," he said.

Checkmark Brit Aid Worker Ian Purchase Kidnapped by Taliban Tells of Mental Battle in Solitary

British Aid Worker Ian Purchase 50, Kidnapped by Taliban Walked 12 Miles a Day in Cell to Keep Sane

Ian Purchase, Was Held Hostage in Solitary Confinement by The Taliban For Five Months Has Told How The Mental Battle Was Hardest to Deal With in His Cell

BBC 6 NOV 2023

Ian pictured as a paratrooper

Ex-paratrooper Ian Purchase, 50, was arrested in Afghanistan's capital Kabul in May on suspicion of breaking local laws. He says he was then chucked in solitary confinement until his release in October, where he was "beaten and whipped".

*But Ian says the mental anguish was tougher - not knowing what the next hour, let alone day, would hold. He desperately clung to a routine to preserve his mental health and prayed to God.

*He constantly paced his 18ft by 14ft cell, often walking up to 28,000 steps in a day - the equivalent of 12 miles.

The dad-of-two, who served in 3 Para from 1995 to 2001, is now safely back home and is coming to terms with what happened to him.

*Ian said: “I was kept in solitary. I was beaten and whipped in the first five days of being there. But the worst of the pain is the mental side - not knowing why you’re there or if you’ll ever get out. It was hard to tell day from night.

I’m agnostic but part of my routine was desperate heartfelt praying. I wrote the names of my children, my mum and ex wife on the wall.

Taliban Vow to Start Stoning Women to Death in Public For Adultery in Afghanistan

Supreme leader BLASTS the Wests' support for womens' rights

MailOnline 28 MAR 2024

Horrifying footage of screaming Afghan woman cowering as she is stoned to death by Taliban

The Taliban will soon start stoning women to death in public, the radical group's Supreme Leader announced as he declared war against Western democracy.

Addressing Western officials in a voice message broadcast on state TV Saturday, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada called the Western human rights defenders 'representatives of the devil'.

'You say it's a violation of women's rights when we stone them to death. But we will soon implement the punishment for adultery,' he told the West in his harshest comments since taking over Afghanistan in 2021.

'We will flog women in public. We will stone them to death in public,' he announced.

'These are all against your democracy but we will continue doing it.

'We both say we defend human rights – we do it as God's representative and you as the devil's,' he added.

You are treating women like animals, are these your rights?'

Afghanistan's state TV, now controlled by the Taliban, airs voice messages claiming to be from Akhundzada, who has never been seen in public.

In a further affront to international advocacy for women's rights, Akhundzada criticised the calls for such rights as contradictory to the Taliban's interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.

'Do women want the rights that Westerners are talking about?

'They are against Sharia and clerics' opinions, the clerics who toppled Western democracy,' he asserted.

'One is God's league and another one is the devil's and we are on God's side,' he claimed.

The Taliban, despite initial promises of a more moderate rule, began carrying out severe punishments in public shortly after coming to power.

The punishments are similar to those during their previous rule of Afghanistan in the late 1990s.

Akhundzada has called the Taliban foot soldiers to be resilient in opposing women's rights and said the war against Western democracy and values will continue for decades to come.

'I told the Mujahedin that we tell the Westerners that we fought against you for 20 years and we will fight 20 and even more years against you' he said.

'Taking over Kabul did not mean we would now sit in offices and drink tea.

'It did not finish (when you left), we will now bring Sharia into action on this land,' he warned.

Footage allegedly from 2015 shows the Taliban stoning a women to death, six years before their return to power in Afghanistan

Akhundzada has called the Taliban foot soldiers to be resilient in opposing women's rights and said the war against Western democracy and values will continue for decades to come

He criticised Western human rights values and women's freedoms, saying Taliban religious scholars and clerics would persistently resist the West and its form of democracy in Afghanistan.

His comments have sparked outrage among Afghans, prompting some to urge the international community to escalate pressure on the Taliban.

Naseer Faiq, Charge d'Affaires of Afghanistan to the United Nations, said that deciding the fate of the Afghans without their consent 'is not acceptable'.

'At what cost? For over two decades, under this slogan, thousands of innocent Afghans, including brainwashed Taliban, have been killed, the country destroyed, millions forced to migrate, and Afghanistan plunged into a deep crisis,' he said in a post on X, referring to Akhundzada's comments

'Isn't that enough? Profiting from the Afghan people's blood is unacceptable and forbidden in Islam,' he added.

The Taliban regained power in August 2021, following the collapse of the internationally supported government and the withdrawal of all US-led Western troops after nearly 20 years of involvement in the Afghan war.

Movies Taliban SAVAGES Gang-Rape Afghan Women in Taliban Jails

Video Appears to Show Gang-Rape of Afghan Woman in a Taliban Jail

Activist claims she was threatened with release of the footage in order to silence her, amid multiple reports of sexual violence inflicted upon imprisoned Afghan women

The Guardian 3 JUL 2024

The Guardian has seen video evidence of a female Afghan human rights activist being gang-raped and tortured in a Taliban jail by armed men.

There have been mounting reports that sexual violence is being inflicted on women and girls being held in detention in Afghanistan, but this video is believed to be the first direct evidence of these crimes occurring.

According to the activist, the mobile phone footage was later sent to her as a threat that it would be shared more widely if she continued to speak out against the Taliban regime.

In the video recording viewed by the Guardian and Rukhshana Media, the young woman is filmed being told to take off her clothes and is then raped multiple times by two men.

The woman in the video – recorded on a phone by one of the armed men – tries to cover her face with her hands. One of the men pushes her hard when she hesitates as he gives her orders.

At one point she is told, “You’ve been ****ed by Americans all these years and now it’s our turn.”

The woman has said that she was arrested for taking part in a public protest against the Taliban and was raped while being held in detention in a Taliban prison. She has since fled Afghanistan. She said that after she spoke out against the Taliban in exile, she was sent the video and told that if she continued to criticise the regime the video would be sent to her family and released on social media.

“If you continue saying anything bad against the Islamic Emirate, we will publish your video,” she said she was told.

She believes that the attack was deliberately recorded to be used to silence and shame her. The person filming the assault captures her standing naked with her face visible and she is identifiable during the attacks.

Last week the Guardian published accounts of teenage girls and young women who said that they were sexually assaulted and beaten after being detained under Afghanistan’s draconian hijab laws.

In one case, a woman’s body was allegedly found in a canal a few weeks after she had been taken into custody by Taliban militants, with a source close to her family saying she had been sexually abused before her death.

The UN’s special rapporteur on Afghanistan has recently reported that women were thought to be facing sexual violence in detention.

Since they took power in August 2021, the Taliban have imposed what human rights groups are calling a “gender apartheid” on Afghanistan’s 14 million women and girls, excluding them from almost every aspect of public life.

Women and girls are blocked from attending secondary school, banned from almost every form of paid employment, prevented them from walking in public parks, attending gyms or beauty salons and told to comply with a strict dress code.

The Taliban SAVAGES have also announced the reintroduction of the public flogging and stoning of women for adultery.

Movies Taliban SAVAGES-BAN Women From Speaking in Public-Frightening Future

Frightening Taliban HORROR Law BANS Women From Speaking in Public

New vice and virtue restrictions offer ?a distressing vision of Afghanistan?s future?, says UN

The Guardian 27 AUG 2024

THE SADISTIC THUGS THAT RULE

New Taliban laws that prohibit women from speaking or showing their faces outside their homes have been condemned by the UN and met with horror by human rights groups.

The Taliban published a host of new ?vice and virtue? laws last week, approved by their supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, which state that women must completely veil their bodies ? including their faces ? in thick clothing at all times in public to avoid leading men into temptation and vice.

Women?s voices are also deemed to be potential instruments of vice and so will not be allowed to be heard in public under the new restrictions. Women must also not be heard singing or reading aloud, even from inside their houses.

?Whenever an adult woman leaves her home out of necessity, she is obliged to conceal her voice, face, and body,? the new laws state.

Men will also be required to cover their bodies from their navels to their knees when they are outside their homes.

From now on, Afghan women are also not allowed to look directly at men they are not related to by blood or marriage, and taxi drivers will be punished if they agree to drive a woman who is without a suitable male escort.

Women or girls who fail to comply can be detained and punished in a manner deemed appropriate by Taliban officials charged with upholding the new laws.

The restrictions have been condemned by Roza Otunbayeva, the special UN?s representative for Afghanistan, who has said they extend the ?intolerable restrictions? on the rights of women and girls already imposed by the Taliban since they took power in August 2021.

?It is a distressing vision for Afghanistan?s future, where moral inspectors have discretionary powers to threaten and detain anyone based on broad and sometimes vague lists of infractions,? she said in a statement on Sunday.

?It extends the already intolerable restrictions on the rights of Afghan women and girls, with even the sound of a female voice outside the home apparently deemed a moral violation.?

Speaking to Rukhshana Media, Mir Abdul Wahid Sadat, the president of the Afghan Lawyers Association, said that the new laws contradicted Afghanistan?s domestic and international legal obligations.

?From a legal standpoint this document faces serious issues,? he said. ?It contradicts the fundamental principles of Islam [where] the promotion of virtue has never been defined through force, coercion, or tyranny.

?This document not only violates Afghanistan?s domestic laws but also broadly contravenes all 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.?

?The Taliban government does not have any sort of legitimacy and these new edicts designed to further erase and suppress woman are an indication of their hatred towards women,? says Fawzia Koofi, an Afghan human rights activist who was the first woman vice-president of the Afghan parliament.

?When they say women cannot speak in public as they regard women?s voices as a form of intimacy it is incredibly frightening yet the whole world acts like this is normal. There have been very few reactions of comments to what is happening and the Taliban are emboldened by this indifference. It is not only women but all human beings they are targeting. They must be held accountable.?

Shukria Barakzai, a former Afghan parliamentarian who was Afghanistan?s ambassador to Norway, agreed the international community?s silence on the Taliban?s oppression of Afghanistan?s 14 million women and girls had played its part in the criminalisation of women?s bodies and voices.

?It is concerning that international organisations, particularly the United Nations and the European Union, instead of standing against these inhumane practices, are trying to normalise relations with the Taliban,? she said. ?They are, in a way, whitewashing this group, disregarding the fact that the Taliban are committing widespread human rights violations.?

In the three years since seizing power from the US-backed government, the Taliban have imposed what human rights groups are calling a ?gender apartheid?, excluding women and girls from almost every aspect of public life and denying them access to the justice system.

Prior to the new ?vice and virtue? laws, women and girls were already blocked from attending secondary school; banned from almost every form of paid employment; prevented from walking in public parks, attending gyms or beauty salons; and told to comply with a strict dress code.

Earlier this year, the Taliban also announced the reintroduction of the public flogging and stoning of women for adultery.
