Cadbury Loses Royal Warrant After 170 Years Because of 'Cadbury US' Owners, Mondelez International

AMERICA Trying to Pinch The Taste of Cadbury Chocolate as Hersheys Tastes Like Wax

Because of That Cadbury lost the right to sell its own chocolate in the US

BBC 24 DEC 2024

Chocolate maker Cadbury has been dropped from the list of royal warrants for the first time in 170 years.

The Birmingham-based chocolatier was awarded its first royal warrant as chocolate and cocoa manufacturers by Queen Victoria in 1854, but it has lost its royal endorsement under King Charles.

Cadburys US owners, Mondelez International, said it was disappointed to have been stripped of its warrant.

Chocolate lovers, or at least a certain British-influenced subset of them, are outraged that The Hershey Co. has forced a ban on US imports of Cadbury?s chocolate manufactured in the UK.

The ban doesn?t preclude Americans from getting their hands on other Cadbury chocolate, though?as long as it?s the made-in-the-USA kind.

Of course, none of that is consolation for US shops that cater to loyal fans of the British kind. Those customers tend to consider the American-made version to be grossly inferior.

Retailers importing British-made Cadbury chocolate into the US have angered many, who say US-made Cadbury chocolate is inferior - and who often view Hersheys, the most popular US chocolate, as beneath contempt.

American chocolate is rubbish, says John Hanson the owner of The British Shoppe, a UK food store based in Orlando, Florida. Cadburys chocolate tastes like chocolate, he says, whereas Hershey's chocolate tastes like wax.

He's not the only one who thinks so. Hersheys, which has the licence to produce Cadbury chocolate in the US, and regards imported British-made Cadbury chocolate as a trademark infringement as it tastes so BAD.

Some have added comments along with their signatures, like Dayne Thomas from Richfield, Minnesota who writes: Maybe the reason people prefer British chocolate is that it's not the over-sugared minimal cocoa butter garbage that Hershey's makes.
