A suspected killer was caught abducting a four-year-old boy on a baby-cam before allegedly stabbing him to death in the street.

Cash Gernon was taken from his home in Dallas, Texas, before being discovered by a jogger half a mile away at around 7am on Saturday.

The tragic boy was a twin, and was taken from the cot he was sleeping in with his brother Carter in the middle of the night.

Chilling baby-cam footage caught the moment a man suspected of the brutal slaying came into the bedroom to take him at 2am - and then comes back five hours later to look at his brother after Cash was killed.

Police said Cash appeared to have suffered a violent death from an "edged weapon".

Darriynn Brown, 18, was arrested hours later and charged with kidnapping and theft but police said they expect to bring murder charges once forensic analysis has been completed.

The abduction was filmed on a night-vision baby-cam, and shows a figure dressed in a hoodie come into the room and look around before taking one of the boys over his shoulder.

Cash was found murdered around one hour and 45 minutes later. Subsequent footage shows a man back in the bedroom, appearing to hover over Carter before leaving empty handed.

Kamron Moori, who lived with the boy 'and considered him a brother', described Cash as a sweet little boy who loved superheroes.

He told NBCDFW he lived with Cash, his twin brother Carter and that his mother Monica Sherrod dated the victim's father.

It is claimed the dad - who has not been identified - departed Ms Sherrod's home suddenly in March, leaving the boys behind with her.

Police said the boys' biological mother, Melinda Seagroves, had been searching for them 'for an extended amount of time'.

Brown, the suspect at the time of the kidnapping, was wearing an ankle monitor stemming from a separate arrest last month, police say.

An arrest affidavit suggested Sherrod did know Brown prior to the kidnapping but the nature of their relationship remains unclear.

Moori described Cash as "the sweetest boy ever" adding, "He'd be so happy y'all were here he'd probably come out and say: "What's up y'all?"'.

"'He was four, who does this to four year old kids, why, just because you want to be evil?'

"I love this little boy. He was the sweetest boy ever. He loved to play superheroes. He always thought he was Iron Man."

Assistant Police Chief Albert Martinez said it's believed Cash was killed at about 5am and appeared to have suffered multiple stab wounds.

His body was found less than half a mile from Sherrod's home.

Police have asked residents living near where Cash was killed for any additional footage that could help shed light on what happened.

Brown is being held in Dallas County jail in lieu of $1.5million bond. (£1m)
