Oh Crap! CREEPY Fates of Murder Homes From House of Horrors to Crossbow Cannibal

Creepy Fates of Murder Homes From Fred Wests' House of Horrors to Crossbow Cannibal

Their walls hid the UK's most sickening crimes, but while some of these chilling houses have been torn down, others have been snapped up by homeowners

Hiding grotesque sex dungeons and body parts stuffed down drains, the homes of the UK's most notorious serial killers are a lasting reminder of their dark crimes.

But while some have since been razed to the ground, others have been snapped up by homeowners undeterred by the grim history.

Last week, it was reported that serial killer Rose West will be questioned over 13 missing women, after police scoured the grounds of a Gloucester cafe in search for Mary Bastholm, 15.

While no remains were found, the hunt has renewed focus on the depraved 20-year killing spree of Rose and her husband Fred.

The couple's 'house of horrors' hid decades of cruel torture, before being demolished to the relief of horrified neighbours.

The fate of other infamous homes, however, is more creepy - from the student living at the flat of the crossbow cannibal to the car company setting up shop at Jeremy Bamber's White House Farm.

Fred and Rose West killed at least 12 women and children at their home at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester.

Not satisfied with murder, the couple also sexually abused and tortured many of their victims. They then dismembered the bodies and buried them under their garden patio.

It was the disappearance of their daughter Heather that finally proved to be the undoing of the couple. Police officers got a search warrant and discovered its grisly secrets.

In 1994, eight years after Heather was last seen, police began digging at the property. Fred was found dead in his cell in 1995 just weeks before the murder trial was due to begin.

Their former family home was razed to the ground in 1996 and rubble carted away to deter ghouls from keeping a memento.

Dennis Nilsen's attic stuffed with body parts

Notorious killer Dennis Nilsen's attic flat in Muswell Hill, north London, was bought by a couple for the cut price of £493,000 in 2016.

The buyers were untroubled that the monster had stashed 12 corpses in the home 30 years previously and clogged the drains with body parts.

After his chilling attacks, Nilsen - who died in 2018 aged 72 - would sit on the sofa with his lifeless victims next to him watching television.

Mathilde and Bruno, who now own the flat and have not disclosed their last names, told The Sun they "never think about the history".

They added: "We went through full refurbishment when we bought because it was a bit old.

"It is located in a beautiful area, close to a fantastic park. We were lucky to grasp the opportunity as we got it at a good deal."

Crossbow cannibal's lair turned into student digs

Student Azarias Fontaine had no qualms about moving into the modest Bradford flat where the deranged crossbow cannibal murdered and dismembered three women.

Twisted Stephen Griffiths told police that during his year-long spree he had even cooked and eaten flesh from his first two victims.

Azarias said in 2017: "I can see it would freak out a lot of people but not me. Just because some crazy murders took place here, does not make it a bad place."

He added: "I wouldn’t have taken it if the kitchen and bath had been the same. I couldn’t be getting in the same bath as the dead bodies or using the same kitchen where he cooked human flesh."

Griffiths was jailed for life in December 2010 over the murders of three women

He moved into the *redecorated flat because the rent was £360 a month. The landlord told him about the crimes and said the kitchen, bathroom and carpets had been replaced.

Griffiths, who shot his victims with a crossbow, was jailed for life in December 2010 after admitting murdering* Suzanne Blamires, 36, Shelley Armitage, 31, and Susan Rushworth, 43.

Jeremy Bamber cousin 'living in morbid mansion'

Jeremy Bamber, 60, is serving a whole-life sentence for the 1985 killings of his adoptive parents Nevill and June, both 61, his sister Sheila Caffell, 26, and her six-year-old twins Daniel and Nicholas.

The sickening bloodbath at White House Farm in Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex, was depicted in an ITV drama last year, which showed how Bamber tried to pin the crimes on Sheila, who had schizophrenia.

To this day the deaths continue to haunt local residents, who told Essex Live : “There remains a mood of frus
tration, despair and protectiveness in the village.”

Units at the property have reportedly been taken up by the business Eastcoast Classics, a classic car rental company boasting a "collection of iconic and classic vehicles to rent for events such as weddings or even family holidays".

However, the Mirror last year revealed how Bamber claims the home is still inhabited by his cousin Ann Eaton.

In a letter to a well-wisher, the killer wrote: “The drama is filmed in the house and, after 35 years, nothing has changed.

“Ann, my mum’s niece, lives in this rented property. Her motive is that she is protecting the crime scene in case I’m retried and new techniques could find evidence to be used at a retrial.

“She gave ITV permission to film inside this rented property. I just find it odd and morbid to want to live in a crime scene.”

Family deck out home of murderer Peter Tobin

The sea*side house in Margate, Kent, where Peter Tobin buried Vicky Hamilton, 15, and Dinah McNicol, 18, in the garden is now home to a young family.

The mum of three - who shares the home with her dad and children Craig, 21, Kyra, 17, and six-year-old Lottie - has now put up new decking and colourful plant pots in the back yard to banish its grim history.

Speaking last year, she said: “Even though people might have thought it strange that we wanted to live here, to us we didn’t care about what had happened in the past – it’s a house.

“I don’t mean that we don’t care what happened to the girls, that was horrible, but I mean it didn’t bother us living here.

“People at the school know where we live and I get asked if there are any ghosts. I stand by my kitchen window and I see people go past, slowing down, pointing out, ‘That’s the Tobin house’ probably thinking, ‘Wow, someone’s actually living there’.

Evil Tobin was sentenced to a minimum of 21 years for the rape and murder of Angelika Kluk, 23, in Glasgow in 2006. He was later convicted of the murder of Vicky in 2008 and the murder of Dinah in 2009.

Camden Ripper flat 'impossible to demolish'

Several tenants are living at the flats where the Camden Ripper killed at least three people *including Elizabeth Valad, 29, Sally White, 31, and Brigette Maclennan, 34.

Devil worshipper Anthony Hardy, who idolised Jack the Ripper, scoured the streets of North London looking for sex workers.

He disposed of body parts he cut up with an electric saw in a communal bin area, but was discovered when a homeless man looking for food found a pair of legs. Hardy was jailed for life in 2003 and died last year aged 69 after suffering from sepsis.

Camden Council said of his home at the time: "Because the flat is part of a block, it is not viable to demolish it.

"Because of the circumstances, the council has taken the decision to completely gut the flat - including the removal of all fixtures and fittings, and decorations and woodwork - and replace as new."

Lord Lucan townhouse mystery residents

Lucky Lord Lucan vanished without trace after apparently killing the children's nanny in the basement of his sprawling Belgravia townhouse.

He also attacked his wife, Lady Lucan, who later identified him as the perpetrator and fled the scene in a borrowed Ford Corsair.

While mystery and speculation surround his disappearance, the vast home where Sandra Rivett met her brutal end in 1974 still stands.

The current residents have never given interviews.

Ian Huntley home razed to ground

The home where Ian Huntley murdered schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman was knocked down in 2004.

Huntley, a school caretaker, lured the two 10-year-old girls to the house in Soham, Cambridgeshire, as they walked back from a family barbeque on August 4, 2002.

Their disappearance sparked a desperate police manhunt, before their bodies were found in a ditch in Suffolk 13 days later.

Huntley was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 40 years. As a result of his notoriety, he has been attacked in prison on several occasions.

Howard Gilbert, principle of Soham Village College where Huntley worked, said of the demolishment: "This has been a long time coming. For the school in particular there is a sense of relief.

"We have understood the reasons why the house had to stay with us for so long, but it is not the environment we want the school to operate in."
