Donald Trump has asked a US court to order a swift deposition for billionaire Rupert Murdoch in his defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal.
He sued the publication and its owner over a 17 July article asserting that Trumps name was on a 2003 birthday greeting for Jeffrey Epstein, who was later a convicted sex offender.
Trumps lawsuit called the alleged birthday greeting fake and said the Journal published its article to harm the presidents reputation. In a court filing on Monday, Trumps lawyers said Trump told Murdoch before the article was published that the letter referenced in the story was fake, and Murdoch told Trump he would take care of it
Murdochs direct involvement further underscores Defendants actual malice, Trumps lawyers wrote, referring to the legal standard Trump must clear to prevail in his lawsuit.
His lawyers asked US district judge Darrin Gayles in Miami to compel Murdoch, 94, to testify within 15 days. Dow Jones, the Journals publisher, has previously said the paper stood by its reporting and would vigorously defend against the lawsuit.

Maxwells submission to the supreme court comes days after she met justice department officials, as discussions began to see whether she would turn into a US government cooperator.

A 1928 law that should compel the Department of Justice to turn over the files they are withholding from the public on convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The move by the Democrats will put Republicans on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on the spot with a vote to invoke what is known as the rule of five.
The Times Michael Gold is reporting a federal law codified in 1928 contains the rule of five, a provision that compels government agencies to provide relevant information if any five members of that committee, which is the chambers chief oversight panel, request it.
The law was designed to allow the party in the minority to receive information in a roundabout way because they dont have the authority to issue a subpoena.
The report adds that provision has rarely been used and may be subject to a court challenge from the very litigious Donald Trump administration.

Legal experts are raising questions about the movement of Jeffrey Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell to a minimum security prison in Texas after she agreed to speak with Justice Department official Todd Blanche.

Legal analyst Lisa Rubin told host Chris Jansing that the move indeed raises questions. She explained that security at a prison camp is always a lot lighter than at a federal maximum security facility.
I should point out that we understand that while she was in Florida, she was housed in what people would refer to as an honour dorm, said Rubin. So the least restrictive housing situation at that prison, still is being moved to a federal prison camp that is the least restrictive option within the federal correctional system.
She added that there are only two facilities of that nature that are for women in the federal system.
While Ghislaine Maxwell is still engaged in this very public dance with the administration over whether she will get a pardon or commutation, it just raises more questions than anything else.

The Wolff interview was posted the same day the president explained why, after decades of friendship, he had a falling out with Epstein.
The White House had said Trump kicked Epstein out of his Florida resort for being a creep. Trump, however, suggested the real reason was that Epstein stole Virginia Giuffre from Mar a Lago.
Though there are more than a thousand victims, Giuffre is perhaps Epstein?s most famous. She revealed that, as a teenager, she was passed around like a platter of fruit to wealthy untouchable men who have escaped accountability to this day. She grew up to become an advocate for victims of child sex crimes. She killed herself in April.
Its unclear why Trump said this is the reason for his breakup with Epstein. What is clear is that it muddles the timeline and raises more questions. Ahmed Baba noted that Giuffre was recruited in 2000. He added Trump praised Epstein and said he likes young women in 2002. Reportedly sent him a birthday card in 2003. Didnt cut ties until 2004.
In any case, revelations about Giuffre came less than a week after another report by the Journal. US Attorney General Pam Bondi met with Trump in May to discuss his name appearing multiple times in the Epstein files. The implication is that for this reason, she decided against releasing them, despite them being central to his campaign. The Journal report suggested Trump agreed with Bondis decision.
Trump has a long history of sexual deviance. He bragged he was so famous he could grab women by the pussy. Before the election, a judge used the word rape to describe how he victimized E Jean Carrol. With respect to Epstein, there have been intimations of pedophilia for decades.
So from a certain point of view, what we're seeing now is indeed a conspiracy to cover up for Trumps deviance, but that conspiracy has been obvious for a long time to anyone who has been paying attention. The question, from this point of view, might be whats different now?

A figures, shared in filings by MAGA Inc., a super PAC funding much of Donald Trumps political machine, exposes a stunning pay to play scheme operating at the highest levels of American government.
The donor list reads like a whos who of crypto moguls, influence peddlers, and favor seekers all willing to write massive checks for a seat at Trumps table, the Times reported.
MAGA Inc. raked in a jaw dropping $177 million in just the first half of 2025, with many top donors scoring coveted invitations to exclusive dinners at Trumps Mar a Lago resort
The cryptocurrency industry alone dumped $45 million into Trumps coffers, according toTimes. Leading the charge were the Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron who operate a crypto exchange collectively contributed $4 million to MAGA Inc.
Eric Schiermeyer, a crypto entrepreneur, ponied up $1 million for a dinner in March where he pitched a government backed cryptocurrency called USA Token that would be distributed to every American with his company handling the lucrative contract, the report stated.
I was able to say my piece, and the idea is clearly making the rounds, so mission accomplished from my view, Schiermeyer boasted to the Times.
The donor roster also features several individuals who mysteriously landed plum administration appointments shortly after cutting checks. Surgeon Anjani Sinha donated $1 million in February and was promptly nominated as ambassador to Singapore though his confirmation hearing saw Sinha struggling to answer basic questions about the country he was supposed to represent.
Energy investor Cody Campbell paid $500,000 and secured a spot on the Presidents Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, while finance executive Josh Lobel bought his way onto the Presidents Intelligence Advisory Board for $250,000.
Perhaps most disturbing is the case of Elizabeth ***o, who contributed $1 million and attended an April dinner with Trump. Just three weeks later, her son Paul Walczak a healthcare executive who had pleaded guilty to tax fraud received a presidential pardon.

Ro Khanna were expected to file a discharge petition aimed at compelling the Department of Justice to fully release all files related to the disgraced financiers case. The bipartisan effort is underway from the House Oversight Committee to uncover the files despite pushback from Republican leaders.
WASHINGTON (AP) The House Oversight Committee on Tuesday publicly posted the files it has received from the Justice Department on the sex trafficking investigations into Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, responding to mounting pressure in Congress to force more disclosure in the case.
Still, the files mostly contain information that was already publicly known or available. The folders posted on Google Drive contained hundreds of image files of years old court filings related to Epstein, who died in a New York jail cell in 2019 as he faced charges for sexually abusing teenage girls, and Maxwell, who is serving a lengthy prison sentence for assisting him.
The files also included video appearing to be body cam footage from police searches as well as recordings and summaries of law enforcement interviews with victims detailing the abuse they said they suffered.
The committees release of the files showed how lawmakers are eager to act on the issue as they return to Washington after a monthlong break. They quickly revived a political clash that has flummoxed House Republican leadership and roiled President Donald Trump?s administration.
House Republican Speaker Mike Johnson is trying to quell an effort by Democrats and some Republicans to force a vote on a bill that would require the Justice Department to release all the information in the so called Epstein files, with the exception of the victims? personal information.

Over the course of Epsteins visits to the home, the man said, more than a dozen girls might visit, and he was charged with cleaning the room where Epstein had massages, twice daily.

Other documents related to Epsteins Florida prosecution that led to a plea deal that has long been criticized as too lenient, including emails between the defense and prosecutors over the conditions of his probation after his conviction.
Barbara Burns, a Palm Beach County prosecutor, expressed frustration as the defense pushed for fewer restrictions on their client 'I dont know how to convey to him anymore than I already have that his client is a registered sex offender that was fortunate to get the deal of the century'
Some of the interviews with officers from the Palm Beach Police Department date to 2005, according to timestamps read out by officials at the beginning of the files.
Most, if not all, of the text documents posted Tuesday had already been public. Notably, the probable cause affidavit and other records from the 2005 investigation into Epstein contained a notation indicating that theyd been previously released in a 2017 public records request. An internet search showed those files were posted to the website of the Palm Beach County State Attorneys Office in July 2017
Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, chided Republicans on the panel for releasing material that he said consisted almost entirely of already available information.

A missing minute of CCTV footage, a key ingredient of conspiracy theories surrounding the prison death of the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been found, contradicting the assertion of Pam Bondi, the attorney general, that it was recorded over.
The video was in a cache of material, including 33,000 pages of records relating to the disgraced financier and former Donald Trump associate, released late on Tuesday by the US House oversight committee. The panel has been looking into Epsteins August 2019 death at Manhattans Metropolitan correctional center.
In July, the same month as a government review confirmed Epstein died by suicide, the FBI released hours of surveillance footage taken from outside Epsteins jail cell on the night he died. Observers quickly realized from time stamps that a block of one minute, from 11.59pm to midnight on 10 August, was NOT there.
Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell at 6.30am.
Conspiracy theorists leapt on the development as proof there was something suspicious about Epsteins death, fuelled by Bondis insistence at the time that the prisons CCTV system was routinely reset every 24 hours. That, she told a cabinet meeting on 8 July, meant every nights footage would feature a missing minute was NOT TRUE
NEWEST Epstein files finally reveal the missing minute absent from earlier releases and it shows a figure moving towards his cell hours before he was found dead.
Trumps administration had claimed the minute of footage did not exist when CCTV was first released in July, but this now appears incorrect.
A huge dump of files relating to the PEDO financier Jeffery Epstein was released on Tuesday after massive pressure from campaigners and even Maga figures.
Much was already in the public domain, but there is some significant NEW material in the files which date back to 2005.
Amongst the release is nearly 14 hours of CCTV footage from inside Brooklyns Metropolitan Detention Center where Epstein was being held when he died on the night of August 9, 2019.
CBS reported later that month that there was no blackout in the recording, and that the justice department, bureau of prisons, and the FBI had a full version including the previously unaccounted for 60 seconds.
The revelation was supported by Tuesday nights congressional release that included the footage among two hours of previously unseen video. It reveals nothing out of the ordinary, with a handful of guards working outside the cell.

Most of the files released on Tuesday and posted online to Google Drive contain information already publicly known or available. Many are image files of court documents relating to Epstein and his former girlfriend and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced to a 20 year prison term in 2022 for sex trafficking crimes.
Maxwell met with justice department officials at least twice in recent weeks and is, according to critics, pressing the Trump administration for a pardon.
Also featured in Tuesdays release are what appears to be body cam footage from police searches and police interviews. An estimated 97% of the material is not new.

Each time he dropped them off, he said, Epstein would pay him $200 each.
He also alleged that Epstein, Giuffre and Ghislaine Maxwell would all go out to clubs to pick up girls and try to find them to bring back for Jeffrey.
Giuffres lawyers had unsealed documents in batches of dozens at a time.

Donald Trump left more evidence of criminal intent than Richard Nixon, according to Watergate lawyer Nick Ackerman Saturday. He was asked about how Trump demanded the prosecution of his perceived political enemies, including ex FBI director James Comey.

Tony Blair met with Jeffrey Epstein in Downing Street while still prime minister, following lobbying by Lord Peter Mandelson, the BBC has confirmed.
A memo written by senior civil servant Matthew Rycroft, dated 14 May 2002, briefs Sir Tony about super rich financial adviser Epstein ahead of a meeting scheduled at 17.00 GMT that day.
The meeting was six years before Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor in June 2008.
A spokesperson for Sir Tony said As far as he can remember, Mr Blair met with him for less than 30 minutes in Downing Street in 2002, and discussed US and UK politics. He never met or engaged with him subsequently as far as we know.
He added This was, of course, long before his crimes were known of and his subsequent conviction
Emails seen by BBC News show Lord Mandelson pushed for the meeting, telling Sir Tonys chief of staff Jonathan Powell that Epstein was a friend of mine who ex US President Bill Clinton hoped to introduce to the PM.
The release of this and several related documents had previously been blocked by government officials due to concerns about the impact on UK/US relations.
The document has now been released by the National Archives under a Freedom of Information request, following the sacking of Lord Mandelson as US ambassador after fresh revelations about his friendship with the disgraced financier.

Epstein was found dead in his cell at a federal jail in Manhattan in August 2019 while he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges. The death was ruled a suicide.
In 2008 he pleaded guilty to charges of solicitation of prostitution and of solicitation of prostitution with a minor, for which he served time in jail.
In January this year, a section of the email from the Duke of York emerged in court documents. At the time it was reported to be from a royal family member
It related to a claim made by the Financial Conduct Authority, the UK banking regulator, and appeared in court documents for a legal case involving the former Barclays chief executive Jes Staley. Staley was appealing against a finding by the watchdog that he had given a misleading account of the nature of his relationship with Epstein.
In a November 2019 interview with Newsnight, Andrew told the journalist Emily Maitlis I ceased contact with him after I was aware that he was under investigation and that was later in 2006 and I wasnt in touch with him again until 2010.
He later said that in December 2010 I had to show leadership and I had to go and see him and I had to tell him thats it... Buckingham Palace and the Duke of Yorks office have been contacted for comment.
Also this weekend, it emerged that Tony Blair met Epstein in Downing Street while he was prime minister after a recommendation by Peter Mandelson, who last month was sacked as US ambassador after new information emerged about how close he had been to the convicted child sex offender.
Blairs meeting emerged in papers released at the National Archives and predated Epsteins criminal conviction. Epstein visited Blair on 14 May 2002.
Mandelson was then a backbench Labour MP, having resigned from government for a second time amid controversy. He had described Epstein to Blairs chief of staff, Jonathan Powell, now the UK national security adviser, as safe and a friend in an email before the meeting.....

Donald Trump is seeking a $230 million payout from the Department of Justice as compensation for the multiple federal investigations into him, The New York Times reported , citing several people familiar with the matter And Trumps own appointees and allies are the ones who will have the power to greenlight the potential nine figure payout.
The situation has no parallel in American history, wrote the Times Devlin Barrett and Tyler Pager, as Mr. Trump, a presidential candidate, was pursued by federal law enforcement and eventually won the election, taking over the very government that must now review his claims. It is also the starkest example yet of potential ethical conflicts created by installing the presidents former lawyers atop the Justice Department
The complaints submitted by the president under the federal governments administrative claim process are connected to investigations into Russian election tampering and possible connections to the 2016 Trump campaign, the FBI raid at Mar a Lago for classified documents, the criminal charges against him related to the mishandling of that classified material, and the investigations launched by former Attorney General Merrick Garland, former FBI Director Christopher Wray, and former Special Counsel Jack Smith.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously served as the presidents chief defense counsel and recently conducted a controversial prison interview with convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, is one of two people eligible to sign off on such a settlement, reported the Times.
Other Trump appointees who could potentially directly or indirectly affect the approval of any settlement include Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Stanley Woodward Jr. chief of the DOJs civil division who represented Trumps co defendant in the classified documents case, Walt Nauta, as well as Patel and other Trump aides in connection with investigations into the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot and other matters.
According to the Times, Trump had filed these complaints in 2023 and 2024, during President Joe Bidens term, and cited several former officials at the DOJ who privately expressed misgivings that the departments leaders did not reject Mr. Trumps legal claims in the waning days of the Biden administration, instead of risking leaving that decision in the hands of Trumps own appointees.
The situation poses undeniable ethics challenges one legal ethics professor cited by the Times called it a travesty, as well as bizarre and almost too outlandish to believe, adding that having the presidents own appointees in the DOJ, the people who serve him deciding whether he wins or loses, presents an ethical conflict that is just so basic and fundamental, you dont need a law professor to explain it.
If any settlement is approved, compensation is typically covered by taxpayers, noted the Times.....

Even before Trump admitted to having no idea who his latest pardon recipient, disgraced cryptocurrency founder Changpeng Zhao, is, the president has been upending pardon norms since his first term and even more so in his second administration, a former pardon attorney and legal experts told Raw Story.
From an early commutation of former Rep. George Santos seven year prison sentence for aggravated identity theft and wire fraud, to granting blanket pardons for more than 1,500 defendants involved in the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection, Trump has issued pardons and clemency since resuming office in January with unprecedented brazenness, experts say.
Sam Morison, who served for 13 years as a staff attorney for the Office of the Pardon Attorney in the Department of Justice, said, Trump has a different understanding of what makes somebody a good candidate for a pardon.
The traditional way it works is you have to go through DOJ, and you sort of have to kiss the ring.

Trump has pardoned individuals with mutlimillion dollar restitution orders. For example, in March, Trump pardoned Trevor Milton, founder of electric vehicle company, Nikola Corporation, who was convicted of securities and wire fraud and ordered to pay $680 million in restitution to shareholders.

Andrea Romero officially introduced a proposal to establish a truth commission at a cost of $2.5 million to investigate activities at Epsteins complex, known as Zorro Ranch, a local ABC affiliate, reported Sunday.
