Nottingham UK: Three Killed, Three Injured in 3 City Centre Attacks -Man Arrested

Three people have been killed - and another three injured - in connected "Horrific and Tragic" attacks in Nottingham.

Police found two bodies in Ilkeston Road just after 04:00 BST, before being called to Milton Street where a van had attempted to run over three people.

A man was then found dead in Magdala Road.

Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of murder and locked down the city centre.

The 31-year-old is currently in custody.

Police said the three people involved in the van attack in Milton Street were being treated in hospital.

Chief Constable Kate Meynell, from Nottinghamshire Police, said the force believed all three incidents were linked.

"This is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people," she said.

"This investigation is at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what has happened.

"We ask the public to be patient while inquiries continue."

An eyewitness in Nottingham has told the BBC she saw a van hit two people in the city centre.

One of those killed in the first attack was Barnaby Webber, 19, a history student at the University of Nottingham.

Grace O'Malley-Kumar, 19, who was studying medicine, was killed alongside Mr Webber, reportedly as they walked home.

The third victim of the Nottingham attack was Ian Coates, a school caretaker at Huntington Academy in the city

Armed police officers were seen across the city throughout the day.

A forensic team was also seen inspecting a white van believed to have been used in the attack.

Several roads were closed throughout Tuesday, and forensic officers were seen gathering evidence from where the attacks unfolded.

Nottingham Attack Shakes City to Core

Lynn Haggitt said she saw the driver "look in his mirror" and see a police car behind him, at which point he "quickened up" before going "straight into" two people.

"The woman went on the kerb and the man went up in the air," Haggitt said, adding: "It was such a bang - I wish I never saw it - it’s really shaken me up."

Valdo Calocane, who killed three people in "frenzied and relentless" attacks in Nottingham, UK, is to be detained in a high-security hospital. He was given a hospital order at Nottingham Crown Court after admitting three counts of manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

The judge told Calocane: "You were, and remain, dangerous."

A judge handed down a hospital order to the 32-year-old, who has paranoid schizophrenia and whose pleas to manslaughter by diminished responsibility were accepted earlier this week.

The families of the three people he killed have reacted angrily to the sentencing and accused prosecutors of a 'fait accompli' in accepting a manslaughter charge rather than perusing a murder verdict.

A spokesman for Attorney General Victoria Prentis confirmed her office had received a referral arguing the sentence administered yesterday had been unduly lenient.
