Jose Aldo NOT Injured, Confirms He Won’t Fight at “UFC 134: Rio”
Written by BleachersReport May 24th, 2011 ![]() It was just another manic Monday at the trusty MMA rumor mill. Although Jose Aldo’s bout with Chad Mendes appears off, the UFC featherweight champ wanted to correct early reports that an injury forced him out of the proposed bout. “Let me be clear I’m not hurt again I’m not hurt,” Aldo Tweeted (per Google translate). “I picked up a suspension from the Canadian commission and therefore can only return to training on the 30th day this month.” The 24-year-old said he’s been letting his lacerations heal, while working on minor nagging injuries. Aldo and Mendes were rumored to headline UFC 133 on August 6th, which would have given the striker only eight weeks to prepare for the 10-0 wrestler. Aldo claims he’ll be ready to defend his 145-pound crown by October at the very latest. For you “Junior” fanboys hoping his comeback fight will take place in front of his fellow Brazilians, Aldo says “UFC 134: Rio” is a no-go courtesy of Yushin Okami’s bout with middleweight champion Anderson Silva. “My fans I will not fight Rio because the UFC already has a fight for the title and they dont want to put me as the main event and not co-main,” Aldo posted. Aldo was issued a 30-day medical suspension for lacerations suffered in his unanimous decision victory over Mark Hominick at UFC 129.
