Lewis Hamilton Announces He is Changing His Name Ahead of New F1 Season
Lewis Hamilton will begin his quest for a record eighth F1 world championship this weekend and six days prior to the season-opening Bahrain GP he has confirmed he is in the process of changing his name Daily Mirror 15 MAR 2022 ![]() Lewis Hamilton and his mother Carmen Larbalastier Lewis Hamilton is in the process of changing his name to include his mother's surname, Larbalestier, the seven-time F1 world champion said. Hamilton was speaking at the Dubai Expo when he revealed a name change is coming for one of the most famous British sports stars, as he questioned the tradition of women losing their surnames when they get married. Hamilton's parents, Anthony Hamilton and Carmen Larbalestier, divorced when Lewis was a toddler. “I’m really proud of my family’s name: Hamilton,” Hamilton said. “Actually none of you might know that my mum’s [sur]name is Larbalestier. And I’m just about to put that in my name. Because I don’t really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name.” Hamilton, who was accompanied by his mother for his knighthood at Windsor Castle last December, said he is unsure when the name change will be officially ratified, after he was asked whether his new name will be confirmed in time for this weekend's season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. “It will be soon," Hamilton said. "No, I don’t know if it will be this weekend. But we’re working on it.” Hamilton is currently in the Middle East as he gears up for the new F1 season, when he will attempt to wrestle his world title back from Max Verstappen following the controversial conclusion of last year's memorable tussle for the Drivers' Championship. ![]() Max Verstappen laughs off Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes title fears ahead of Bahrain opener Hamilton fuelled rumours of retirement with his two-month mainstream and social media silence in the wake of the December 12 race in Abu Dhabi, but confirmed last month he would be returning for his 16th season in the sport. The 37-year-old, however, faces a battle to be competing at the front of the grid from the very beginning of the season, with Mercedes' new car lagging slightly behind Red Bull and Ferrari in pre-season testing in Bahrain last week. "I'm sure everyone can figure that out - we are not the quickest at the moment," Hamilton said on Saturday. "Ferrari look to be the quickest, then perhaps Red Bull, and then maybe us or maybe McLaren, I don't know. But we're currently not at the top." Hamilton refuted suggestions that the Mercedes team was holding power back in pre-season testing, in order to surprise the rest of the grid when the season gets underway this weekend. "I think people will be surprised maybe," Hamilton added. "Or at least people keep talking about us talking ourselves down. But it's a bit different this year." Defending champion Verstappen clocked the fastest time in testing, ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in second and Alpine's two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in third. Hamilton's new teammate, the young Briton George Russell, recorded the fourth-fastest time.

Lewis Hamilton Left at Breaking Point as He Apologises to Mercedes For X-Rated Rant
Hamilton swore loudly at his team on several occasions over team radio as he fumed in the late stages of the race, but later said sorry for losing his temper as the race slipped away from him Daily Mirror UK 5 SEP 2022 ![]() Hamilton launched into a huge rant as he tumbled out of the podium places & apologised for his outburst Lewis Hamilton apologised to his Mercedes team for his expletive-laden outburst over team radio as he reflected on a gut-wrenching end to his Dutch Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion is yet to win a race this year, but looked in good shape throughout the race at Zandvoort. He was leading with just a dozen laps to go, but a decision made by the team during a safety car period appeared to cost him dearly. He had track position, but Max Verstappen was right behind on newer and softer tyres after team-mate George Russell also pitted, leaving Hamilton exposed. On the slower rubber, he had been overtaken by the Dutchman by the first corner and later saw Russell and Charles Leclerc roar past ![]() Max Verstappen wins breathless Dutch GP as Lewis Hamilton suffers late nightmare ![]() Furious Lewis Hamilton blasts Mercedes "f*** up" as error blows Dutch GP chances It meant he went from a potential win to missing out on the podium in the space of just a few laps. And the Brit was furious as a result, accusing them of making "the biggest f*** up" before adding: "I can't believe you guys **** **** me, can't tell you how **** I am." After the race, and once he had taken a few minutes to recompose himself, Hamilton faced the Sky Sports cameras and showed some remorse for reacting in the way he had to his team. Asked if he had the car to win the race, he replied: "I think we did. "Given the circumstances the things lost with the [virtual safety car and safety car]... I think the car and strategies had been so good up until that point and the stops. It was the best we had all year. The guys were all on it. "I was hopeful that today we were going to get a one-two for the team, especially after not a great year – not a win since Brazil [in 2021]. It was within our grasp and the safety car did not help. I was on the edge of breaking point. "My apologies to the team. I don't know what I said. I lost it for a second and I think they know it's so much passion. I want to look at it as a glass half full. We struggled coming here from Spa and fighting against the Red Bull's. We were quicker than most, but if it weren't for the safety car I think we would have challenged him on the one-stop, which I don't think the others could do." Mercedes chief Toto Wolff had already excused the Brit's behaviour, having spoken to the TV cameras a few minutes earlier. First of all we are the trash bin for the drivers – they are highly emotional," he said. "That close fighting for the win and then beaten up. Every emotion comes out... you are in the ****pit and you don't see everything." The Austrian had also sent a personal message over team radio to Hamilton, telling the Brit: ""Sorry it didn't work out, but what we discussed in the morning. We took a risk and it didn't work out. Let's discuss between us in the office."

United States GP: Max Verstappen Equals Win Record With Late Lewis Hamilton Overtake
Max Verstappen fought back to pass Lewis Hamilton to win a dramatic United States Grand Prix and equal the record for victories in a season. BBC News 24 Oct ![]() ![]() Verstappen was controlling the race until a delay at his final pit stop handed the lead to Hamilton and also dropped the Red Bull driver behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The pit problem gave Hamilton a chance to end his and Mercedes' win drought in a difficult season for the team. But the pace of the new world champion was just too much, and Verstappen caught and passed Hamilton with six laps to go, the seven-time champion defenceless against the formidable straight-line speed of the Red Bull. Verstappen's 13th win this year equals the record for wins in a season, held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, and was sufficient for Red Bull to clinch the constructors' title for the first time since 2013, securing a double after Verstappen clinched the drivers' title last time out in Japan. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished third from 12th on the grid, helped by the two safety car periods that punctuated the middle of the race, ahead of Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Mercedes' George Russell. Verstappen dedicated the win to the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the team's co-owner, who died on Saturday, and which paused the Red Bull's discussions with governing body the FIA after being found guilty of breaching F1's budget cap last year. The second safety car was caused straight after the restart from the first when Fernando Alonso's Alpine crashed into the back of Lance Stroll's Aston Martin, which had moved late in defence against the Spaniard. Somehow, despite his car rearing up into the air at 180mph, crashing down to the track, and then hitting the barrier and breaking its front wing, Alonso fought back from last place to finish seventh. It was a drive that will surely go down in the annals of great Alonso performances - one which saw Stroll receive a three-place grid penalty for the next race and two penalty points. US GP The stands were packed and ready for a thrilling weekend of racing Hollywood Ending In front of a record crowd at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, and a phalanx of celebrities led by Hollywood star Brad Pitt, the race served up one of the most exciting spectacles of the year. Verstappen took the lead from pole-winner Carlos Sainz as soon as the lights went out, and the Spaniard was taken out of contention in a collision with Russell at the first corner, for which the Briton was given a five-second penalty. Verstappen was in control, measuring his pace at the front as the rest of the field fought a series of close battles behind. But his race looked like it might have fallen apart when there was a delay fitting his left front wheel at his final pit stop. Verstappen sent a passive-aggressive radio message to his team, and was reminded they were "all in it together", before setting about recovering his position. And despite the determined efforts of Leclerc and then Hamilton, there was nothing that could hold him back. Verstappen admitted he had "got a bit emotional" but told his team they "deserved" the title double as he spoke over the radio on the slowing-down lap. Lando Norris passed Alonso on the penultimate lap to take sixth place and best of the midfield for McLaren, while Sebastian Vettel pulled a brilliant pass on Kevin Magnussen's Haas on the final lap to take eighth place.

Lando Norris Smashes Max Verstappens' Hungarian Grand Prix Trophy Moments After Race
Verstappen got the better of pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton off the line and never looked back to comfortably win in Budapest, with Norris second and Sergio Perez third BBC NEWS 24 JULY 2023 ![]() Max Verstappen holding his broken trophy after the champagne-spraying was done Max Verstappen spent only a few seconds in possession of his trophy for winning the Hungarian Grand Prix before it was accidentally smashed into several pieces. He was handed a ceramic trophy, as has been the case for this event in recent years, for his victory. He was on the top step of the podium with Lando Norris to his right in second place and Sergio Perez third. After the national anthems, they were handed their champagne and began the traditional spraying of one another. But that was when things got out of hand. Norris has a habit of hitting his bottle off the podium to open it before he begins to spray. And he did that again this time – except the impact sent Verstappen's trophy toppling off the top step. ![]() Lewis Hamilton red-faced as error helps Max Verstappen to easy Hungarian Grand Prix win ![]() Max Verstappen cracks joke after re-watching Lewis Hamilton's horrible Hungarian GP start Footage shows the trophy break into several pieces. But the celebrations carried on regardless, with Norris nervously glancing behind him at the broken trophy several times as the champagne continued to flow. The official McLaren Twitter account apologised for Norris' carelessness. And the Red Bull team account responded in good humour, writing on social media: "We can’t take you anywhere! Glad to have you up there with us though. We're gonna need some glue." ![]() Not quite how Red Bull would have imagined the trophy would look in their cabinet Verstappen won't mind too much, though, after a much easier afternoon's work than he would have been expecting. All the pre-race hype was about a battle with Lewis Hamilton, who had beaten the runaway championship leader to pole position on Saturday. But the Brit suffered a horrible start off the line and paid the price for that. He was passed not only by Verstappen but also by the McLarens of Norris and Oscar Piastri, ending his hopes of what would have been a fairytale victory. Instead, Verstappen won his seventh F1 race in a row and was a very pleased man after climbing out of his car. "The car was good on any tyre. We could look after the tire wear and, basically, that’s why we could create such a big gap," he said of his fearsome RB19. And, reflecting on a new F1 record for his team, the Dutchman added: "Twelve wins in a row is just incredible. What we've been going through the last few years is unbelievable and, hopefully, we can keep this momentum going for a long time."

Lewis Hamilton WILL Move to Ferrari in Bombshell Switch, Less Than a Year After He Denied £40MIL Talks
He Had an 'Escape Clause' in Mercedes Contract Allowing Him to Cut £100MIL Deal Short MailOnline 1 FEB 2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() Lewis Hamilton is on the brink of fulfilling one of the greatest dreams of his life – by driving for Ferrari... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hamilton has found himself trailing Max Verstappens' Red Bull in the past two seasons ![]() ![]() Hamiltons' Mercedes has struggled to keep pace with Red Bull in recent years An 'escape clause' inserted into British racers' contract allows a 2025 exit...Hamilton 39, turned down a £40million offer to join Ferrari just a year ago Mail Sport understands the seven-time world champion has secured a seat at the Scuderia, even for as early as the 2025 season. This confirms Mail Sport's world exclusive of last May that Ferrari were in talks with Hamilton and prepared to offer him a £40million kings' ransom to join. He is currently on £50m-a-year at Mercedes, where he has won six of his seven world championships and previously expressed his desire to remain for the rest of his time in the sport. 'They were pushing like mad,' a source in Italy said today of those conversations in late spring. That story was bare-face denied by all parties, including Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur. But now the Italian press has stated that Hamilton, 39, is wanted to replace Spaniard Carlos Sainz, whose contract negotiations ground to a standstill in December. We now know why. Hamilton is contracted to Mercedes until the end of 2025, a bind that requires some unpicking but not one that is not insuperable because of an 'escape clause'. There is no question at all that driving for Ferrari has been an obsession nagging in Hamiltons' head all his career. There have been flirtations between the two parties for a while, and he has driven red road cars off the forecourt of their Beverly Hills dealership, as well as visited the factory in Maranello. Mail Sport understands that John Elkann, the company president, has led the initiative to bring in Hamilton for what, if the move materialises, would likely be the last chapter of a glittering career. Elkann is attracted by Hamiltons' superstar status as the only Formula One driver with truly transcendent fame across the world. Nothing would cap his successes than winning an eight title at Ferrari – a milestone that eluded even the great Michael Schumacher, the teams' most decorated champion. |

Brit Lando Norris 24, Claims His First F1 Victory After 14 Podiums at Star-Studded Miami Grand Prix
Max Verstappen is forced to settle for second MailOnline 6 MAY 2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() With his race, Norris claimed McLaren's first victory in nearly three years ![]() ![]() ![]() Lando Norris won his first race on a sunlit day in Miami. A little bit of luck came into it, for sure, in the shape of a safety car. But for Norris, 24-year-old racer from Glastonbury, Somerset, a whole heap of relief lifted from his slender shoulders, becoming the 21st British winner. He carried with him the unwanted tag of 14 podiums without a victory, more than anyone else in history, and one sensed it weighed him down. He is more introspective than his bubbly, made-for-Netflix public demeanour suggests. |

Lewis Hamilton Thrills Crowd by Winning British F1 GP For NINTH Time
Max Verstappen finishes second, Lando Norris third The Guardian 8 JUL 2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() The win was a long time coming but when Lewis Hamilton secured victory in the British Grand Prix, what it meant to him and indeed the home crowd at Silverstone that roared him across the line was unmistakable. This was sport as emotion writ large, the perfect stage for the perfect drama, an intense, gripping piece of theatre that left its protagonist for the first time in his career in tears, with likely all but the hardest of hearts similarly touched. Hamilton has gone over two years without a win, his last at Saudi Arabia in 2021, a full 945 days then, so long and so hard a drought, including being controversially denied his eighth title at the close of that year, he admitted afterwards it had brought him low and led to him doubting even himself. Yet at the same time also understandable given the context that since his debut in 2007 and 2021 he had won a race in every season but the spiral in form of Mercedes since 2022 has looked at times to be a vortex from which even Hamilton could not reach escape velocity. He ultimately took the flag at Silverstone from the Red Bull of Max Verstappen in second and the McLaren of Lando Norris in third after a race that ebbed and flowed across wet and dry periods but through which the 39-year-old held his nerve with the same precision and control he has exhibited repeatedly in a remarkable career. As he toured round on his in-lap to a circuit-wide standing ovation and cheering that saw off even the bellicose winds that had buffeted the track all day, he was, overwhelmed, in tears, as the scale of the achievement overtook him and when he climbed from the car there was an almost immediate emotional huge embrace from his mother and father. ![]() “I am still crying,” said Hamilton. “The important thing is how you *continue to get up and dig deeper than ever, even though you are at the bottom of the barrel and there are days since 2021 where I didn’t feel I was good enough or I would get back to where I am but I have had great people around me.” ![]() |

Brit Lando Norris 25, WINS Australian Grand Prix On Opening F1 Race of The Season With SIX Drivers Crashing Out
Defending Champion Max Verstappen Came Second, With Brit George Russell 25, Third Brit Lewis Hamilton 40, Finished in 10th Place On His Ferrari Debut. --Lewis Hamilton sounds the alarm bells at Ferrari with brutally honest assessment of his new car after disappointing 10th place finish at the Australian Grand Prix MailOnline 16 MAR 2025 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() McLarens Lando Norris Swept to victory in a wet and wild Australian Grand Prix The Briton ran wide as rain sprinkled the Melbourne track, but he wrestled the car back from on to the road. He then pitted to move on to intermediate tyres, plunging him down to eighth. It looked bleak for him at this worrying moment after so many sure-footed laps in tricky conditions after starting on pole and holding off Max Verstappen gallantly at lights out. But as other cars came into the pits to be reshod, he moved up into the lead again. His one pursuer had been McLaren team mate Oscar Piastri, but at the same spot as Norris went off he too detoured off track a second or so later. He though, could not right his car and ended up stuck on the grass, his race winning prospects over, though he recovered to finish ninth. Norris drove well under pressure at the end, despite a small mistake at Turn 6, as Verstappen hounded him all the way and got within DRS range, but he held on to triumph by 0.8sec. George Russell was third for Mercedes a very decent drive by him. Lewis Hamilton Finished 10th On His Ferrari Debut ![]() ![]() Brit Lewis Hamilton admitted that his Ferrari debut was much worse than he had anticipated but took solace in keeping the car out of the wall The seven-time world champion endured a disappointing first race with the Scuderia, finishing a lacklustre 10th two places behind teammate Charles Leclerc. Hamilton was disappointed with his performance, despite the treacherous conditions, and offered a damning assessment of the car after the race. Its very tricky driving with a new team the Brit said. It went a lot worse than I thought it would go. The car was really, really hard to drive today. So I mean Im just grateful that I kept it out of the wall because thats where it wanted to go most of the time. ![]() Meanwhile, Lando Norris clinched victory after fending off reigning champion Max Verstappen, with Mercedes Brit George Russell securing a solid third-place finish. Lando Norris WINS Austrian Grand Prix in Style to Close Gap on Oscar Piastri
Lando Norris won the Austrian Grand Prix to reignite his world title hopes. McLaren team mate Oscar Piastri finished second after tense 20 lap duel Max Verstappen crashed out on lap one as a Silverstone showdown looms MailOnline 30 JUN 2025 ![]() ![]() ![]() Norris and McLaren team mate Piastri went wheel to wheel in a thrilling early duel as they exchanged places ![]() ![]() Max Verstappens hopes of retaining his title suffered a blow as he crashed out on the first lap ![]() Hamilton again clashed with his race engineer, Riccardo Adami In an old incarnation, as the Osterrichring, this track could have been called the prettiest graveyard in the world. But on Sunday, as the Red Bull Ring, it was the scene of rebirth for Lando Norris and his world championship dream. He won the Austrian Grand Prix in style to close within 15 points of runner up Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen was punted out of the race and out of a title contest he was barely in. As for Norris, he was crushed last time in Canada, a stupid crash confirming the scrambled state of his mind. Here he drove smartly, calmly, cleanly in a fabulous duel with his McLaren team mate Piastri, the man he had smashed into only a fortnight before. For 20 laps, less than a second separated the two of them, the Bristolian Norris in first place, by dint of a stupendous pole lap, and the Melburnian Piastri in second. How much had Norris learned from his meltdown in Montreal As much as he had persuasively claimed in the build up to this race in Spielberg We were to find out. So often rightly criticised for clumsy starts under pressure at the sharp end of the grid, he was away well. He covered the attack of Charles Leclerc, starting third, in the 200 yard run into the first bend and this gave Piastri his chance to push past the Ferrari on the outside of Turn 1. ![]() Job done Race Highlights 2025 Austrian Grand Prix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj6DHG0X66k Lando Norris Pole Lap 2025 Austrian Grand Prix Pirelli https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEWdQ4QeF5w . |

Lando Norris Revels in Dream Come True, Furious Team Mate Oscar Piastri Insists He Deserved More at Silverstone.
Nico Hulkenberg Third -Ends 239 Race Wait For a Podium Finish. British Lewis Hamilton Came Fourth Lando Norris Claimed Victory at The British Grand Prix on Sunday. Oscar Piastri Said It Hurts Because I know I Deserved a Lot More Than I Got Today MailOnline 7 JUL 2025 ![]() ![]() ![]() Lando Norris called it a dream come true as he joined the royalty of national motor racing by winning the British Grand Prix. ![]() Hamilton brushed off the grid walk drama and finished fourth in treacherous conditions Norris recalled how as an eight year old he watched Lewis Hamilton triumph in the wet in 2008 by more than a minute. Now aged 25, he celebrated emulating him after a flawless, if fortuitous win at a rain lashed Silverstone. This victory is everything I dreamed of, smiled Norris, whose title challenge is reignited as he goes eight points behind his McLaren team mate Oscar Piastri with 12 rounds down and 12 to go. Being on top at your home race is very, very special From a British perspective, I join a long list of pretty incredible winners, mostly Lewis the record NINE time winner. To join him and continue the reign of the British at Silverstone is amazing. Looking up at the fans and seeing them on their feet, your mind just goes pretty blank. The main thing is just dont f*** it up. I was trying to enjoy the moment. His chance to become the 12th home winner of the race came when Piastri slammed on the brakes as the safety car prepared to pull in midway through the race. The Australian was handed a 10 second penalty for erratic braking - a verdict Piastri, who finished runner up, disputed. Norris, who started third, moved into second place when quadruple world champion Max Verstappen spun, and was handed the lead by virtue of Piastris sanction. He then drove well in tricky conditions to prevail by just over six seconds. ![]() Lando Norris second from right claimed victory at his home race, while Nico Hulkenberg right claimed his first ever podium finish as Piastri second from left came second ![]() Piastri was furious at his treatment. I hit the brakes and at the same time the lights went out on the safety car, he protested. I didnt do anything differently from my first restart. I didnt go slower. ![]() I felt it was well within the rules. I dont really get it. I will go and have a look back. But Lando didnt do anything wrong so I dont think it would have been fair to swap us around, though I thought I should ask. It doesnt change much for the championship. Piastri also lost to Norris in Austria a week earlier. The Briton is gaining strength, momentum rolling with him. Hamilton, meanwhile finished fourth on his Ferrari debut at Silverstone, with a late excursion off track costing the 40 year old a possible crack at the third place secured by Saubers Nico Hulkenberg. Its only my second time driving this car in the wet, said Hamilton. I cant even express how hard it is. Its not a car that likes those conditions. We have lots of data to take from this. I have to sit down with the people designing next years car because there are elements that cannot go on.
