Paris Olympics 2024: MASSIVE Coordinated TERROR/Arson Attack Just Hours Before Opening Ceremony - French Airport is Evacuated
French airport is evacuated for ‘security reasons’ amid Olympics chaos as country’s train lines are paralysed in ‘massive, coordinated arson attack MailOnline 26 JUL 2024 ![]() Franco-Swiss airport Basel-Mulhouse has been evacuated for 'security reasons' after Frances train lines were paralysed in a 'massive, coordinated arson attack' just hours before the Olympic Games opening ceremony.... Russian 'spy' who 'vowed to give the Games an opening like no other' was arrestedFears are mounting that Moscow may be behind a 'massive arson attack' which has brought chaos to France's rail network ahead of the Olympics opening ceremony. With just hours to go before the grand procession on the River Seine, fires were started at key facilities, bringing trains to a halt and affecting around 800,000 passengers - including athletes and spectators heading to the Games. While no claim of responsibility has been made and French authorities are yet to name suspects, experts have suggested a correlation between acts of sabotage and Russian fury over their national team being excluded from the games. Security analyst Alex Kokcharov told MailOnline: 'Russia has both the intent and capability to attempt sabotage acts in Europe, especially in France. Russian intent is largely linked to the fact that Russia was not invited to the Olympic games.' The Eurostar is advising passengers not to travel today after its rail services between London and Paris were disrupted by the acts of vandalism, with trains cancelled and others diverted, causing disruption at London St Pancras and across France. In further disruption to travel as international visitors descend on France, a Franco-Swiss airport was temporarily evacuated for security reasons. EuroAirport, located on the French side of the border near Basel, said on its website that it had reopened and flight operations were gradually restarting. ![]() The dramatic start to the games comes after an alleged Russian spy was arrested on Wednesday. Vive les Jeux Olympiques!
Paris Olympics 2024: Opening Ceremony - OUTSTANDING Paris Olympic Games Opening Ceremony: A High-Kitsch, Riverside Spectacle The Guardian 27 JUL 2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Paris Olympic Games opened on Friday night with a high-kitsch, riverside spectacle, as an armada of boats carried athletes along the Seine, dancers dangled from high poles, drag queens paraded on bridges and the Olympic rings lit up the Eiffel Tower – all under unrelenting, torrential rain. France had promised its opening ceremony would be the biggest open-air show on Earth. More than 300,000 people watched from the riverside and bridges – and hundreds more stood at windows and balconies – as a show of dance, live music and acrobatics unfolded along more than 6km of river from the Pont d’Austerlitz to the Eiffel Tower. The show had promised to light-heartedly deconstruct French stereotypes, and the US singer Lady Gaga was the first star to set the tone for a tongue-in-cheek kitsch spectacle. She appeared from a giant golden staircase on the edge of the Seine surrounded by pink pompoms and giant pink feather fans, for a high-kicking cabaret performance of France’s famous 1960s music-hall number Mon Truc en plumes by Zizi Jeanmaire. ![]() |

Dutch Olympian Who Raped a 12-Year-old girl ‘is Not a Paedophile’, Official Says
Beach volleyball player Steven van de Velde ‘isn’t a risk’. Survivors urge Dutch Olympic team to withdraw player The Guardian 29 JUL 2024 ![]() A senior official with the Dutch Olympic committee has insisted that a convicted child rapist in its beach volleyball team is not a paedophile, in an email seen by the Guardian. A concerned British man who has lived in the Netherlands for more than a decade, wrote to the Dutch Olympic committee and called the inclusion of Steven van de Velde in the team “a stain on the Dutch national side”. In a reply the Dutch Olympic committee spokesperson wrote: “Steven is NOT a peadophile [sic]; you really don’t think that de Dutch NOC would send someone to Paris who IS a real risk? No, he isn’t a risk.” ![]() There has been mounting public anger at the presence of the beach volleyball player Van de Velde, who was convicted of raping a 12-year-old British girl in 2016. Earlier this week the International Olympic Committee faced calls for an investigation into how a convicted child rapist has been allowed to compete at Paris 2024. The IOC has said the selection of athletes for the Games was the responsibility of individual committees. Van de Velde, who is now 29, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 after pleading guilty to raping the girl in Milton Keynes. He had flown to England to meet her in 2014 with full knowledge of her age, having met her on Facebook. He served 12 months in a British prison, before being transferred to his home country where he was released after a further month. The backlash has cast a shadow over one of the Olympics’ most eye-catching events, held in an outdoor stadium at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Van de Velde is slated to play on Sunday. In a statement the Nederlands Olympisch Comité*Nederlandse Sport Federatie’ (NOC*NSF) said it had put in place “concrete measures” to ensure a safe sporting environment for all Olympics participants in light of Van de Velde’s participation. At his request he is not staying in the Olympic village and will do no media. The NOC*NSF said: “Van de Velde has fully engaged with all requirements and has met all the stringent risk assessment thresholds, checks and due diligence. Experts have stated that there is no risk of recidivism. Van de Velde has consistently remained transparent about the case which he refers to as the most significant misstep of his life. He deeply regrets the consequences of his actions for those involved. He has been open about the personal transformation he has undergone as a result.” The British man said he was “shocked” by the response he received after he wrote to the Dutch Olympic committee press team asking what the communications strategy would be if Van de Velde won a medal. The man – who does not want to be named – referred to Van de Velde as “a paedophile, and convicted child rapist” and asked what his victim and her parents said about his participation. As well as disputing that he was a paedophile, the official urged him to read more about the case and not to “believe all the headlines”. The official added: “We are taking measures to make sure that everybody can focus on sports, on the Games. Not the story of the past of this beach volleyballer, who has played on all the international tournaments since 2018.” The Dutch NOC continues to come under fire from groups representing survivors of sexual abuse, with one group accusing the committee of not thinking “at all about the potential impact on survivors of seeing a child rapist at the Olympics”. He won HIS first fight after his opponent withdrew after just 46 seconds I am referring, of course, to the boxing-ring bout in Paris Thursday, where the female Italian athlete Angela Carini was pitted against an opponent named Imane Khelif. 'Brilliant' Hodgkinson Storms to 800m Gold - Queen Keely Wins 800m to End Wait For Global Title
Team GB teenager Keely Hodgkinson is left speechless after she smashes Kelly Holmes' record and wins to become first British 800m medallist since Athens 2004 BBC Sport 7 AUG 2024 ![]() Keely Hodgkinson was just two years old when Kelly Holmes won the 800m Olympic final in Athens in 2004 - and spent her childhood idolising Tom Daley rather than her track star predecessor. She even admitted to preferring the pool to the track before eventually focusing on running after several arguments with her father. Keely's career almost ended when a tumour left her unable to run or even walk too quickly. But she recovered and, in stunning scenes in Tokyo today, smashed Dame Kelly's British record on the way to an 800m silver at the age of just 19. The ecstatic teen shouted 'what the f***?' into the stands after winning the silver, a clip that was quickly shared across social media as Britain celebrated its newest track star. Hodgkinson, from Wigan, became Team GB's first Olympic medalist in the event since Athens 2004. It capped a remarkable rise for the teenager, who didn't even have lottery funding at the start of the year. She also says she wants to drive the Aston Martin from the James Bond films and revealed that millionaire businessman Barrie Wells, who spent £2m funding Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Jessica Ennis-Hill and other athletes, has promised to let her drive his Bentley if she runs under 1:58.30. Her Olympic silver medal was achieved at 1:55.88. ![]() Hodgkinson - who was unable to run at all in her early teens due to a tumour which has left her deaf in one ear - who burst clear of the other medal contenders. And she couldn't believe what she'd done, so much so that she was left speechless when she spoke to her trainer after the race. |

A New Olympic Sport Making Its Debut in Paris - BREAKING
History of Breaking... BBC 9 AUG 2024 The birth of breaking came in tandem with that of hip-hop 50 years ago. In the Bronx, the most northerly of New York's five boroughs, breaking would become an integral part of the lively outdoor gatherings that became known as block parties, along with booming sound systems. Taking inspiration from different dance and music styles, breaking developed into a fast-growing cultural touchstone within communities. The Olympics first recognized breaking at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. Because of its success there, it graduated to the 2024 Paris Games. In total, 32 athletes will compete -- 16 apiece in the men's and women's competitions -- broken up into four groups of four to begin. The top two from each group will advance to a quarterfinals, which continues until a champion is crowned. The competitors are scored based on five categories: musicality, vocabulary, originality, technique and execution. Some of the favourites are world champion Victor Montalvo and former world champ Phil Wizard for the men and Ami Yuasa and B-Girl Nicka for the women. |

‘I Am a WOMAN’: Imane Khelif Hits Back in Gender Row After Claiming Gold
'WOKE Olympics' Results in FURY With Imane Khelif Breezing to Victory Despite Gender Controversy 25-year-old beats China’s Yang Liu by unanimous decision The Guardian 10 AUG 2024 ![]() After a fortnight surrounded by a gender-row controversy, Imane Khelif became an Olympic gold medallist for the first time as she defeated the world champion Yang Liu of China in the women’s 66kg category by unanimous decision. The greatest victory of the 25-year-old’s career was sealed in jubilant scenes at Roland Garros as the Algerian diaspora showed up in numbers, filling out Court Philippe-Chatrier and raucously supporting her for every second of the gold medal bout. Khelif is Algeria’s first Olympic gold medallist in women’s boxing and their first boxer overall to win gold since 1996. “As for whether I qualify or not, whether I am a woman or not, I have made many statements in the media,” Khelif said after her victory. “I am fully qualified to take part in this competition. I’m a woman like any other woman. I was born a woman, I lived a woman, I competed as a woman, there’s no doubt about that. [The detractors] are enemies of success, that is what I call them. And that also gives my success a special taste because of these attacks.” Khelif is one of two boxers – Lin Yu-ting fights in the 57kg final on Saturday – who has been subjected to a gender eligibility row following their bans from competing in the 2023 boxing world championships after both failed a gender eligibility test administered by the International Boxing Association (IBA). Before these events, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) took the decision to strip the IBA of recognition as boxing’s governing body and expel it from the Olympics over a number of issues, including corruption, financial transparency and governance. Three days after the Algerian *diaspora in France had rallied around Khelif in her semi-final battle, making their support clear after a difficult two weeks, they returned late on Friday even louder. After the first three finals of the night had finished, some in the crowd came alive at the first mention of Khelif’s name. Chants of Insane! Insane! echoed around the stadium. ![]() “My honour is intact now,” Khelif said. “But the attacks that I heard in social media were extremely bad and they are meaningless and they impact the dignity of people and I think that now people’s thinking has changed....-NO IT HASN'T Imane Khelif: Boxing Boss Says Olympics is 'Destroying Womens Sports' |

Boxer Lin Yu-ting Sobs After HE Won Olympic Gold Amid Gender Row
Lin un animously beat Szeremeta in womens' 57kg BOTH MEN Were Blocked Competing in Womens' Boxing by International Boxing Association (IBA) After They FAILED Gender Tests.. Olympic PERVERSE Committee Allowed Them to Compete The Guardian 11 AUG 2024 ![]() The second of the two boxers caught up in a gender eligibility row at the Paris Olympics has won gold, 24 hours after the first. The Taiwanese fighter Lin Yu-ting secured a gold medal in convincing fashion by defeating the young Pole, Julia Szeremeta, in the final of the women’s 57kg event. Lin won every round unanimously and was never in trouble, punching the air and embracing her coach after a fight she controlled from the start. It confirmed the overwhelming supremacy displayed by Lin, who did not drop a round across any of her four fights in Paris. The 28-year-old is a double world champion but had not previously won an Olympic medal. She was beaten in the round of 16 at Tokyo 2020 but proved unassailable here, becoming Taiwan’s second gold winner of the summer. Lin and the Algerian fighter Imane Khelif – who won gold in the women’s 66kg category on Friday – had entered the Olympics amid controversy. Both boxers were disqualified from last year’s world championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA) after it said they had failed gender tests. The IBA, run by the Russian businessman Umar Kremlev and funded by Russia’s state oil company Gazprom, had its Olympic status revoked in June 2023 due to concerns around governance issues and corruption. |
