The 25-year-old was forced to flee into a kebab shop with her dress ripped and holding her underwear in her hand following the alleged attack just days before the Opening Ceremony

She said the horrific attack took place at around 5am on Saturday with one of the men also taking her phone. The woman managed to flee into the Dounia kebab shop on Boulevard de Clichy, near to the iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret theatre, where staff called police.

She was then taken to Bichat hospital "disoriented and unable to speak a word of French," according to witnesses. Local media described her leaving hospital later while her dress appeared to be inside-out.

She had been in the French capital for the Fete de Musique music festival and had been due to return home to Australia the day after the assault took place. It is not clear whether the young woman is still in France.

The Paris Prosecutor's Office announced it was opening an investigation into the incident, saying: “The investigation into the charge of gang rape likely to have been committed on the night of July 19 to 20 has been entrusted to the second judicial police district."

Investigators would "do everything to quickly identify the individuals and bring them to justice," the Alliance Paris Police Union added. The news comes as Paris gets set to welcome millions of visitors for the 2024 Olympics which start on Friday. Parisian police will be keen to avoid fear being spread among tourists due to visit for the games.

In CCTV footage that has since been taken offline, the woman can be seen seeking refuge inside the fast food shop as workers and patrons try to comfort her.

A man can then be seen to enter the shop - causing the woman to gesture indicating that he was one of her attackers.

The alleged rapist approaches her and pats her on the back before a nearby diner confronts him, causing him to flee. Staff and diners can be seen comforting the woman until police arrive.
