FA Launches Clattenburg Probe
BBC Sport, 30 October 2012 ![]() Photo Bleachersreport The Football Association has confirmed it will launch an investigation into Chelsea's allegations that referee Mark Clattenburg used "inappropriate language" towards two of their players during the Blues' defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. Chelsea, who reported Clattenburg in the wake of Sunday's 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge, have not confirmed the identity of the players, but they are widely reported to be Juan Mata and John Obi Mikel. "The FA has begun an investigation relating to allegations made following Sunday's fixture at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Manchester United," the FA said in a statement. "The FA will make no further comment at this time." The club spoke at length to both players about the incidents before lodging complaints to the FA, which is now expected to contact Sky and seek footage from the broadcaster's 20 cameras at Stamford Bridge. Former Premier League referee Jeff Winter has warned Clattenburg that he may never officiate another match if it is proven that he racially abused a player. Clattenburg had a controversial game, sending off two Chelsea players and allowing Javier Hernandez's winning goal to stand, despite the striker being in an offside position. It has been confirmed that Clattenburg will not referee a Premier League game next weekend.
