Commonwealth Games Cycling Horror Crash-Fan Left Covered in Blood
There was a horror crash during the men's 15km scratch race qualifying at the Commonwealth Games, with a fan left covered in blood after Matt Walls went over the barrier Daily Mirror 31 JUL 2022 https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incomin...-Day-Three.jpg Cyclist Matt Walls was involved in a horror crash at the Commonwealth Games, with the Team England rider going over the barrier and into the crowd. The crash took place during the men's 15km scratch race qualifying and a fan was left covered in blood and had to be taken away in a wheelchair. The remainder of the session was abandoned, with Matt Bostock taken away on a stretcher and Walls seen wearing an oxygen mask as he prepared to leave in an ambulance. A young girl was also attended to by medics after receiving a cut on her arm. "Thoughts are with all the riders involved in the crash in the velodrome," England's race team tweeted. British cycling tweeted: "Following a crash in the men's scratch, Matt Walls & Matt Bostock are being treated by medics before being taken to hospital for further treatment. We send our best wishes to the riders and spectators involved in the incident, and will provide a further update when we can." Scottish Cycling added: "Unfortunately we have just witnessed another big crash at the velodrome. Kyle Gordon was taken down but thankfully got up and got back on this bike. "Our thoughts with the two riders who are receiving medical attention." Welsh Cycling also tweeted: "Sending our love and best wishes to those injured in the crash at the Velodrome today. https://i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk/inco...S273499119.jpg Team England cyclists Matt Walls and Matt Bostock have been taken to hospital for treatment "On behalf of all of us at Welsh Cycling we hope for a speedy recovery. We can confirm that Will Roberts is ok, and was not involved in the accident." It comes after Team England cyclist Joe Truman was knocked out and suffered a broken collarbone in another terrifying crash earlier in the games. Truman was involved in a collision with Australia's Matthew Glaetzer in the men's keirin bunch sprint on Saturday and was evacuated from the velodrome in a wheelchair after regaining consciousness. |
