NFL-Snag Delays Tebow's Transfer

Tim Tebow Headed to Jets: Report

The deal was briefly held up by complications, ESPN reported.

Tim Tebow will be traded to the Jets, ESPN is reporting.

It was announced Wednesday that the polarizing Denver Broncos quarterback was being traded to Gang Green for a fourth- and sixth-round pick. The Jets got a seventh-rounder in return.

The deal then got halted for several hours when provisions in the quarterback's contract relating to prepaid bonuses and salary surfaced, causing complications in the trade, ESPN said, citing anonymous sources.

But the Jets ultimately agreed to pay back half of the $5 million in compensation back to Denver to finish the trade, ESPN reported, citing a source.

The Jaguars re-entered trade talks following the snag in the original deal and the Broncos allowed Tebow to weigh in on which way the deal went, ESPN said.

Tebow was said to be excited about the prospect of playing with the Jets, the source told ESPN.
Gang Green was initially considered a long shot in the Tebow race, though team sources had told multiple news outlets that Tebow would be a boon for the struggling locker room and help fill the offensive void left when former Wildcat and special teams stud Brad Smith was traded to the Buffalo Bills.

Speculation about the national phenomenon's landing spot began swirling immediately after news broke that the Broncos signed four-time NFL MVP and future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning to a five-year deal worth nearly $100 million.
Tebow's role would likely be restricted to a back-up or Wildcat role because Gang Green recently signed fourth-year quarterback Mark Sanchez to a three-year extension, a $40.5 million deal with $20.5 million guaranteed. Sanchez took the team to the AFC Championship in his first two years as a Jet.

Tebow's base salaries for the next few seasons are very cap friendly: $1.942 million in 2012, $2.266 million in 2013 and $2.590 million in 2014.
Although the unorthodox QB energized the Broncos last season and guided them back to the postseason, Tebow's long, looping throwing motion led to some accuracy issues. And with his eagerness to run, he's hardly the prototypical pocket passer.

Still, Tebow has a flock of fans for reasons that have to do as much with his faith as his football skills. A devout Christian, he's been a role model since his days at Florida, when he led the Gators to two national titles and captured the Heisman Trophy.
