Manchester United have said Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches "until further notice" after he was accused of assaulting a woman.

The allegations - which included video, photographs and a voice note alleging to be a conversation between Greenwood and the woman - were released on Instagram on Sunday morning.

Harriet has been dating Greenwood since attending school together...

The couple have been dating since attending Mersey School in Greater Manchester together apart from a brief split in 2020.

Greenwood hit the headlines for the wrong reasons previously when he was sent home from his first England camp after he and Manchester City’s Phil Foden invited two Icelandic girls back to the team hotel, thus breaching Covid restrictions.

He is one of United’s brightest talents, having broken into the first team from their academy, making more than 100 appearances for the senior side already.

United tied the youngster down to a new long-term contract last February which runs until 2025, with the option to extend by a further year.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and GBH after claims made about Manchester United and England footballer Mason Greenwood.

It comes after the 20-year-old striker was suspended by his club.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier today (Sunday 30 January) of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

"An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing."

Manchester United responded to the allegations by suspending Greenwood, saying the star will not play or train "until further notice."

Greenwood's sponsor, Nike, also earlier today issued a statement in a response to the allegations.

As reported by The Athletic, Nike stated: "We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation."

Police were pictured outside Greenwood's home on Sunday evening before GMP confirmed they had made an arrest.

Greenwood has netted 35 goals in 129 appearances for Manchester United, while he has been capped once by the England international side.

Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on Sunday (30 January), following allegations made on social media, has now been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill. Greater Manchester Police have now said they've been given more time to question the athlete.

On Sunday morning, a series of photos and audio recordings were uploaded to Instagram. The images showed visible physical injuries and a horrific voice recording was also posted. The post was captioned: "To everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me".

The social media posts quickly went viral, attracting widespread media attention. In response, Greater Manchester Police issued a statement to the press confirming they were aware of the "social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence." GMP added that "a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault" and said they would be working to "establish the full circumstances". Greenwood currently remains in custody for questioning.

Following the 20-year-old's arrest, Manchester United Football Club also released a statement, noting that they "do not condone violence of any kind". The football club announced it would not make any further comments until "the facts have been established", however they later confirmed they had suspended the player until further notice. Greenwood has not publicly responded to the claims made against him.

Since the allegations came to light, the social media posts have been removed. Although it is unclear when the alleged assault took place, Greenwood has been in the public eye for some years. The 20-year-old made his debut for Manchester United back in March 2019, later signing a four-year deal with the club in February 2021
