NFL- Brandon Marshall in Hot Water
Police: Dolphins' Marshall detained after incident with cab driver
* NFL.com Wire Reports Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall was briefly handcuffed and detained while deputies investigated a misunderstanding about a $142 cab fare, according to a report released by the Broward Sheriff's Office on Wednesday. Marshall eventually paid the fare and was released without being charged with any crime. He apologized to the two taxi drivers involved. The incident, first reported by the South Florida Times, occurred early Nov. 14, barely 12 hours after a Dolphins home victory over the Washington Redskins. One taxi driver alleged in a police report that he picked up Marshall at a Miami Beach hotel, but upon his arrival at Fort Lauderdale International Airport, the receiver refused to pay his fare and, saying he needed to use the restroom, entered the airport. The driver said Marshall then returned through a different entryway and got in a second taxi. The second driver learned from dispatch that Marshall had failed to pay his fare to the first driver. He then drove to Port Everglades to make contact with a deputy. Marshall said, according to the police report, that he had instructed the driver to take him to his home in Southwest Ranches. After falling asleep during the ride and waking up at the airport, Marshall began arguing with the driver, whom he found difficult to understand. "Completely innocent," Kennard McGuire, Marshall's agent, wrote in an e-mail to the South Florida Times when asked about the incident. "It was a communication issue, more of a language barrier, in not understanding Mr. Marshall's destination." Marshall was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car shortly before 7 a.m. while deputies questioned those involved. The Dolphins had no comment when reached by NFL Network on Wednesday night. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
