WWE: Batista to TNA?

TNA Renews Interest in Former WWE Star Dave Batista

In this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that there have once again been discussions within TNA about bringing in former WWE main eventer, Dave "Batista" Bautista.

"Nothing has transpired but there is interest in making another run at Dave Bautista. They made a run at him before given that Ric Flair and Bautista are close, but the first time they were far apart on money and in the past Bautista has said that if he wasn’t interested in going with anyone who wasn’t WWE."

Since leaving WWE in May of last year, Batista has been pursuing a career in acting, picking up a handful of roles in several straight-to-DVD action films, as well as exploring his options in mixed martial arts. He was reportedly close to a deal with Strikeforce at one point, which ultimately fell through after the struggling promotion was sold to Zuffa Inc.

While many predicted Batista to return to WWE shortly after he left, the man himself has seemingly ruled that out for the moment, expressing great displeasure with the current PG product in various blogs and interviews, calling it "watered down."

Would he be open to run with the edgier TNA? Who knows? For the right amount of money anything might be possible.

However, even if TNA did manage to meet Batista's expensive price tag and bring him in, the fundamental question is: Would he make a difference?

Well, not to sound too cynical, but if former WWE stars Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Ric Flair, Rob Van Dam, Mr Anderson, Kurt Angle and Hulk Hogan could not turn TNA's flagging business around, it seems unlikely Batista can either.

This is purely common sense. TNA's problem has never been lack of stars. Their issues lie mainly in the booking and presentation of the product. Batista may pop a rating for his first few appearances, sure, but after that? They would likely go straight back to the same old 1.1 rating they've been stuck on for years. Trying to snag the services of Batista would most likely be a very costly endeavor that would serve as no help to the overall state of the promotion's business.

Although with TNA's track record, they may still try anyway.
