MMA Knockout of the Day: Anderson Silva Knocks Tony Fryklund's Head off
This fight was the last fight before Anderson Silva became, well, Anderson Silva. This fight gave Silva his third consecutive title defense in the Cage Rage promotion.
This fight way back in 2006 at Cage Rage 16 seemed like a pretty normal fight starting off, but Tony Fryklund found out what so many others found out: he is a deadly striker.
One sharp elbow later and Fryklund was down and out. Knocked out cold on the mat, on the other side Silva did a little dance to celebrate the victory.
Since this fight, we all know what Silva has done. Silva has obtained 13 straight victories in the UFC including eight straight title defenses.
Silva is widely known as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and has been in talks for many super-fights, including against Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones.
Fryklund on the other hand has gone 3-3 since that fight and hasn't fought since his 2007 knockout loss to Cung Le.
Ironically enough, Fryklund earned that Cage Rage middleweight title shot after two consecutive losses. One of those losses was against Jonathan Goulet and again, ironically, was a TKO loss.
The last fight for Silva outside of the UFC was a great sending off fight. One of the knockouts that makes Silva the great fighter that he is.
This card also featured fighters such as Mostapha Al-turk, Brad Pickett and current top Strikeforce welterweight contender, Paul Daley.
