Default Strikeforce: Predictions You Can Take to the Bank

Strikeforce Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley: Predictions You Can Take to the Bank

Bleacherreport

We're almost there, boys and girls.

Nick Diaz, the current Strikeforce Welterweight World Champ and consensus-addition to almost every unofficial pound-for-pound ranking system in Mixed Martial Arts, will look to extend his reign even further as he comes off of an amazing second-round submission victory over Evangelista Santos.
Standing in his way is an explosive Brit, who I said once before has two surgically-connected sets of barbed-wire-wrapped explosives in the spot where his hands and his forearms are supposed to be.
One punch from this young, hungry UK-born fighter, and the consensus is that it won't matter how much more technical Diaz is, because he will go down, and he won't get back up until Mauro Ranallo asks him about how it is that he kissed the cage canvas.
I could only be talking about former UFC Welterweight and current Strikeforce Welterweight World Title contender Paul "Semtex" Daley.
The questions remain: Will Diaz find a way to finish a man who has proven in the past to be tough to finish by anyone without a good Wrestling game or a very high-level submission game?
Will Daley and his left hook find a way in which to hand Diaz his first undisputed TKO/KO loss since Diaz fought Jeremy Jackson in September of 2002?
All these and more I will address right here and right now, so if you're not throwing down $45 on Wrestlemania 27 tonight, try and place a few Gs on the table if they say that these predictions aren't happening in San Diego this Saturday!

Hiroyuki Takaya Will Turn Heads in a Major Way in Defeating Robert Peralta

If you don't know about DREAM's Featherweight Champion by now, look him up on Youtube and check out some of his highlights.

Every time he fights, it's almost like a street fight—just a down and dirty brawl that always leaves the fans entertained every time.
The 24-fight veteran will be returning Stateside for the first time since a 2008 Unanimous-decision loss to Cub Swanson at WEC 37, and in his way of returning on a good note is 13-3-0 prospect obert Peralta, who holds a win over current Tachi Palace Fights Flyweight Champion Darrell Montague.
The Streetfight Bancho has 11 wins by way of KO and four wins by decision, including the Unanimous Decision win he earned over Bibiano Fernandes at Dynamite!! 2010 to win his belt in a rematch of their DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix FInal bout in September 2009, which "Flash Fernandes" won by Split Decision.
In what may be one nasty brawl to close out the prelims, Takaya will bump that number up to 12 KO wins as he plants a right-handed shot on the button and leaves Peralta wondering what happened after he wakes up from the KO shot at the hands of the DREAM Featherweight Champion

Shinya Aoki Wil Get Knocked Out by Lyle Beerbohm

If The Grand Master of Flying Submissions is fighting, there is usually a hope that he will finish a fight with a crazy submission—crazier than your run-of-the-mill arm lock or choke will do.
Realistically, though, Aoki's not going to try and attempt to make one of Eddie Bravo's submissions work just two weeks removed from when Chan Sung Jung used The Twister against Leonard Garcia.
Besides, it's not the submissions, but the fact that he seems to pull them out from out of nowhere that makes them fun and sometimes cool to watch.
Sadly, that is the only nice thing I can say about Aoki, because truthfully, I wouldn't buy into his striking as far as being "good" is concerned.
Aoki's best shot will have to be taking Beerbohm down and making him tap, but Beerbohm is not an easy guy to finish.
Hell, Pat Healy won a close unanimous decision when he fought Beerbohm.
Hope for Aoki to actually outstrike Beerbohm, but don't bank on Aoki knowing what to do once he finally realizes that Beerbohm isn't going to hand him the chance to pull off a submission.
One wrong move, and Fancy Pants is going to knock the fancy-pants right off of Aoki's creative but otherwise one-dimensional skin.

Dan Henderson's First Defense Will (Still) Come Against Gegard Mousasi

When I made my five predictions for Strikeforce's first major "Zuffa-era" event, I had Gegard Mousasi using his Kickboxing and his Judo (in that order) to defeat Mike Kyle and earn himself a future date with Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson.

The only reason why he won't beat Mike Kyle now is because Kyle is out with a broken hand.
In for Kyle is Keith Jardine, who will debut under the Strikeforce banner against the current DREAM Light Heavyweight Champion and former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion, but don't read too much into his debut being all that brilliant of a move by Strikeforce.
Jardine has to use everything in his arsenal to defeat Mousasi in every aspect of the game, but he's taking this fight on about a week's notice.
It's tough to use everything in one's arsenal to defeat a man like Mousasi in every aspect of the game when you only have a little less than a week to do it.
If you're betting legitimate cash money on Mousasi being destroyed by Jardine, I'd recommend you save your green stuff and try to bank more on how many bars run dry after the cast of MTV's Jersey Shore wraps up in Italy this Summer.
Jardine can leg kick his way towards a victory, but once the Judo of Mousasi comes in—and rest assured that it will once the Kickboxing stuns Jardine—it's bye-bye, Jardine and hello, Henderson.
Of course, if Mousasi finishes Jardine on the feet...well, that just means he's made short work of a Jackson boy.

Gilbert Melendez Will Leave San Diego with His Lightweight Title

Now then, the title of this slide isn't specific, so allow me to elaborate as to how I see Melendez going 2-0 against Kawajiri:

Both guys have fought before, and Melendez got a unanimous decision in a hard fought affair at PRIDE Shockwave 2006.
Years later, Melendez is fighting for the first time in almost a full calendar year, while Kawajiri is fighting for the first time since defeating Josh Thomson at Dynamite!! 2010.
Expect another long fight with the title on the line and anticipate Melendez winning again.
However, expect this to be a tougher fight to call than the first one, with Kawajiri creating situations in which he will be actively fighting and defending himself from off his back when Melendez manages to finally get him down, which will then make it harder to say that Melendez dominated the fight.
Granted, Melendez may do something to ensure that he nabs the win by a split decision, but I wouldn't expect three scores of 50-45 for "El Nino" this time out.

Paul Daley Will Knock Nick Diaz Out in the Third Minute of Round 1 by Left Hook

You saw this one coming.

Of course, Diaz is the more technical striker, and in this one, he will probably be the more aggressive striker, as he always comes forward and lands his punches in succession on his opponents even if he doesn't get a one-punch knockout on his opponents.
The only problem with that is this:
Diaz may hurt people until they stumble, but Daley doesn't punch himself out until he sees his foes stumble.
He lands his left hook on people, and he leaves the referee wondering if he should give the guy a minute or two to figure out what happened or if he should signal for the EMTs immediately after the left hook connects.
Say what you will about Nick Diaz, but remember that he isn't indestructible nor is he unable to feel pain.
Does he recover pretty quickly? Hell yeah, but he doesn't act as though nothing has ever hurt or damaged him.
Trust me when I tell you that he will get damaged early in this fight with Daley and he will get hurt.
He will feel Daley's left, and he will drop to the floors all the others have in the past.
The one thing Diaz won't do?
He won't be getting ready to "peace out" from San Diego as the Welterweight Champ.
That honor will belong to Paul Daley.
