Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy Goes From Frances Presidential Palace to a Paris Prison
Sarkozy Went to Prison For Criminal Conspiracy to Finance His Election Campaign With Funds From Libya MailOnline 21 OCT 2025 ![]() Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy walked down his homes alley Tuesday before heading to prison to serve time for a criminal conspiracy to finance his 2007 election campaign with funds from Libya, the first ex leader of modern France to be imprisoned. Sarkozy contests both the conviction and a judges unusual decision to incarcerate him pending appeal. His journey from the presidential Elysee Palace to the notorious La Sante prison in Paris has captivated France. Sarkozy and his wife walked slowly in front of a crowd of reporters to join his children and grandchildren outside his home. He waved at a crowd of supporters before getting into his car. Hundreds of supporters gathered in the high end Paris neighborhood where Sarkozy lives, applauding and chanting Nicolas, Nicolas and singing the French anthem. ![]() Two French flags have been hung on a nearby fence, with inscription Courage Nicolas, return soon and true France with Nicolas. Parisian resident Michelle Peri, 67, said she came in support because there is anger, injustice |
