An old man has taken a SIX year old girl as his bride, an act so disturbing that it even left the Taliban horrified

The man, who is already married to two other women, bought the young girl from her family. The wedding took place in Marjah district, with both the childs father and the groom since detained but not formally charged.

The Taliban has instructed the groom to wait until the child reaches NINE before he can take her home.

Child marriage remains rampant in Afghanistan, often fuelled by poverty, compelling families to sell their daughters into matrimony as a means of survival.

A teenager driven to despair at the prospect of a forced marriage has attempted suicide for the third time, while her distraught mother has been left at a loss as to how to help her.

At just 13 years old, Mahrukh from Faizabad in northeastern Afghanistan, once dreamed of becoming a judge. Now, her only ambition is to stay in school and escape a dreaded marriage to a man more than three times her age.

Despite her tragic attempts on her own life, Mahrukhs father Raziq remains intent on marrying his youngest daughter to a 41 year old man.

This man, who is involved in the gold mining business, is reported to be a wealthy friend of Raziqs. He is reportedly willing to pay whatever dowry the father wants in exchange for the child bride, who is said to look even younger than her years.

Unmoved by Mahrukhs devastation, Raziq, who has married off his four other daughters at a young age, has reportedly declared, If you die, your dead body will belong to that man

Speaking with the publication Rukshana, which aims to give a voice to Afghan women, Mahrukhs mother, Amina, revealed that her husband announced her child was to be married off over dinner back in June 2024.

Amina recalled: Raziq suddenly announced at the dinner table, Ive given Mahrukh to Qader. May God bless her marriage. I was stunned. I said, This is impossible. Shes still a child.

She continued: He told me, Dont speak, you foolish woman. Shes grown up, let her go to her fate. Its better for her to marry sooner rather than later. She'll be a wife and belong to a man. The sooner, the better, and with more dignity

A man who beheaded his wife and paraded her head down the street was handed a mere eight year prison sentence in Iran

He avoided a harsher punishment after her parents reportedly declined to invoke Irans Islamic law of retribution.

Mona Heydari, a mother of one, was just 17 when she was dragged from a car outside her family home and killed in February 2022, according to court proceedings. Her husband Sajjad Heydari, and his brother Heydar, committed the horrific attack in Ahvaz, the capital of the southwestern Khuzestan Province.

A judiciary spokesperson stated the leniency of the sentence was due to Monas parents having pardoned him for the murder rather than seeking retribution.

Mona, who was married off at the tender age of 12, initially escaped her abusive husband and fled to Turkey with another man, the court heard. Heydari had reportedly denied Monas pleas for a divorce.

Her father, identified as Javid in local reports, eventually located her and persuaded her to return to Iran

According to the BBC, her father allegedly used Interpol to locate his daughter and brought her back to her violent husband, where her spouse who is also her cousin murdered her, claiming she had dishonoured him.

Disturbing video evidence, which The Express has chosen not to show, emerged depicting the murderous husband holding his wifes severed head in one hand and a large knife in the other after killing her.

Court spokesperson Massud Setayeshi announced that Heydari was handed a seven and a half year sentence for murder, with an additional eight months for intentional assault. His brother, who disposed of his sister in laws decapitated body, received a 45 month prison sentence for complicity in intentional homicide.

The court heard how the victims father defended marrying her off at 12 to a relative, arguing that the violence she endured in the relationship was normal. Mona was only 14 when she gave birth to their son.

Her father lauded the husband they chose for her as a good partner, praising his work ethic and provision of the best life for his daughter.
