British ICC Chief Prosecutor Faces US Travel Ban Under Trump Sanctions

Donald Trump has signed an executive order sanctioning International Criminal Court (ICC) officials which is expected to extend to British lawyer Karim Khan, its Chief Prosecutor

The order, signed on Thursday afternoon, comes after the ICC sparked a fierce backlash when it issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, in November.

It places financial and visa sanctions on individuals and their family members who have assisted in ICC investigations of US citizens or the countrys allies such as Israel and Putin.

While it does not specify which officials have been hit by the US travel ban and financial sanctions, the restrictions will probably extend to Mr Khan and others.

In January a Whitehall source told The Telegraph they had been briefed to expect ICC sanctions from Mr Trump an issue that could become a point of tension between the Trump administration and Sir Keir Starmer

The Court stands firmly by its personnel and pledges to continue providing justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the world it said.
