Exiled Dictator Assads Wife Asma BARRED From UK Return
Jihadi Terrorist Hunted For Prostitutes on The Internet While Planning to Travel to Syria With Nephew Who Was Plotting Lee Rigby-Style Attack on US Soldier
Daily Mail UK, 5 April 2016 A British jihadi terrorist browsed online for prostitutes and adult films while making plans to secretly travel to Syria with his nephew, who was plotting a Lee-Rigby style attack at an airbase in East Anglia. Shazib Ahmed Khan, 23, viewed adult movies titled Killer Sex and Secrets of a Chambermaid just fifteen minutes after chatting about jihad with an ISIS fighter in Syria. He is also understood to have accessed sites which advertised the services of prostitutes. Within a few days after messaging the jihadi via an ecrypted app, Shazib Khan was arrested by counter-terrorism police. He was convicted yesterday of preparing to travel to Syria to join ISIS. His delivery driver nephew Junead Khan, 25, was also found guilty of the same offence as well as plotting to behead a US serviceman in Britain. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9527728345.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9527728309.jpg Shazib Khan (top), has also been found guilty of planning to travel to Syria. His nephew Junead Khan, from Luton UK, was found guilty of the same offence and was also convicted of plotting to behead a US serviceman in Britain Junead Khan, from Luton UK, was convicted of plotting to carry out the atrocity outside RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, where US Air Force personnel are stationed. His trial revealed that he had also posted a video on Youtube called 'ISIS drives around Westminster', which featured music praising ISIS. The video was made by Shazib and featured an extremist chant praising Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS. The investigation into the pair also uncovered a worrying message which suggests ISIS fighters in Syria have obtained the UK addresses of British servicemen. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9530821068.jpg The investigation into the pair also uncovered a worrying message which suggests ISIS fighters in Syria have obtained the UK addresses of British servicemen. Pictured, a court sketch of the pair http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9528347688.jpg The pair filmed a video of Parliament and posted it on YouTube with the title 'ISIS drives around Westminster' Schizophrenic Khan, 25, got the idea for the attack on an American airman after driving past RAF Mildenhall as he delivered goods to a Lloyds pharmacy. Khan wanted to a buy a knife similar to that used by Jihadi John and an ISIS flag was found at his home, which it is believed he wanted to unfurl at the scene. Khan was found guilty of preparing for an act of terrorism in the UK between May and July 2015 after a trial at Kingston Crown Court in London. He was also convicted alongside his uncle, Shazib, 23, of preparing to go to Syria to join IS. Both men had denied engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts between August 1 2014 and July 15 2015. They showed no emotion as the jury returned its verdicts after deliberating for almost 24 hours following a six-and-a-half week trial. The 'ISIS in Westminster' footage was filmed before September last year, and Shazib sent the footage to Khan on September 24. The soundtrack had a man singing: 'Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the dread of our enemies, maids of paradise are calling, record me for my martyrdom, our swords are flashing, our tones are artillery.' http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9511963951.jpg Junead Khan had looked into buying a hunting knife like this one because he wanted to look like Jihadi John http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9512008937.jpg An ISIS flag was found at his home. It is believed he planned to unfurl it at the scene of his atrocity After he was sent the video, Khan complained: 'U messed up. Should've held the phone sideways. I'm uploading it anyway. Going live right now lol.' He later sent a link to the video on Youtube, adding: 'Don't mention it's recorded by us.' 'Lol, looks good,' Shazib replied. But 12 days later, Junead took the video down, telling his uncle: 'I've taken that video off Youtube lol. Didn't wanna bait my life out jus in case.' Shazib later admitted making the video while Junead was driving, explaining in court: 'We would meet up two or three times a week. Every time we would meet up, we would go cruising, that's the only thing we knew how to do. 'We would get food on Edgware Road and go to that mosque, Regents Park, get take away, we could eat there quietly, away from the traffic. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9527739540.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9527739625.jpg Khan, with an ISIS flag) plotted the attack with Junaid Hussain (left), an British ISIS recruit in Syria. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9516789514.jpg A photo found on Khan's phone showed Downing Street with Islamic flags superimposed outside Shazib said of the video in court: 'There was no particular reason behind it… We were messing around.' The plot of which Khan was convicted was to emulate the killing of Lee Rigby. Khan was researching hunting knives of the type used by ISIS executioner Jihadi John. He was directed by Junaid Hussain, a computer hacker from Birmingham UK who became one of ISIS's chief recruiters before he was killed by a US drone. Quote:
He delivered medical supplies to Boots, Superdrug, Morrisons Supermarket and Co-Op along with hospitals and surgeries on behalf of Alliance Healthcare. He worked for a firm called TRG Logistics, which was based in Luton. His routes took him to East Anglia and to two Lloyd's pharmacies in the village of Mildenhall, Suffolk, close to two US airbases. RAF Mildenhall and neighbouring RAF Lakenheath were re-opened after the second World War to host B-29 Superfortresses and have hosted US airmen ever since. Lakenheath is currently home to the 48th 'Liberty' Fighter Wing and Mildenhall to the 100th Air Refueling Wing. On July 5 2015, Khan wrote to Junaid Hussain on an encrypted app: 'When I saw these US soldiers on road, it just looked simple, but I had nothing on me or wouldve got into an accident with them and made them get out the car.' 'That's what the brother done with Lee Rigby,' Hussain said. 'Yes brother Mujahid style, accident and then attack,' Khan agreed, referring to Michael Adebolajo, one of the killers of Fusilier Lee Rigby in Woolwich. Hussain suggested it was 'best to have at least pipe bombs or pressure cooker bomb in a backpack incase something happens, so u can do isthishadi bomb [suicide bomb] incase they try to arrest u.' http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9513466720.jpg Khan got the idea of the attack after seeing US servicemen as he drove past RAF Mildenhall as part of his job http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9514022699.jpg Junead Khan (right) and his uncle, pictured in court. They were both convicted of terror charges today In one worrying message, Hussain told Khan: 'I can get you addresses of British soldiers.' The message suggests the ISIS fighter, who spent his time hacking computers from Syria, had obtained the personal details of British servicemen. After Khan attempted to buy a knife online, two flags, the Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes were stolen from outside the New York Diner in Luton. When Khan was arrested on July 14, he shouted, kicked out at the arresting officers, and yelled 'cowards' and 'Allahu akbar' [god is great]. The US and British flags were later found in Khan's bedroom along with an Islamic flag in the loft and a balaclava in the kitchen which had crudely cut eyeholes. When police examined Khan's mobile phone, they discovered it contained photos including one of his ISIS flag being waved outside the US Embassy in London. He also had another mobile phone which included gruesome images of beheadings, beatings and dead bodies, as well as Mohammed Emwazi, the British ISIS executioner known as Jihadi John. Quote:
Police found a British and US flag at Khan's home, which it is believed he planned to burn at the scene http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9514257799.jpg The flags were stolen from an American diner in Luton shortly before he was arrested Superdrug employee Shazib was detained on the same day as Khan. Max Hill, QC, prosecuting, said: 'The fact that he [Shazib] did not actually go before being arrested last July makes no difference to this charge. 'However tempting it might be for some people to allow those who wish to leave the UK to do so, upon the basis that at least they would no longer be in the UK, that provides no solution to the terrorism perpetrated by the likes of ISIL.' He claimed fascinated by the conflict, but had no intention of joining ISIS. He said he wanted to help by providing money and food. Judge Mr Justice Edis remanded the men in custody ahead of sentencing on May 13. Junead was found guilty of preparing to travel to Syria to fight with ISIS by a 10-2 majority verdict and of preparing to attack UK military personnel by a unanimous verdict. Shazib was convicted on unanimous verdicts. Quote:
Two British jihadis were on the radar of the Government's anti-extremism programme a year before they were arrested - but joked about it. Junead and Shazib Khan mocked the Prevent programme after a police officer visited Junead's Luton home in 2014, their trial heard. The pair used the WhatsApp instant messenger to discuss a May 14 visit from Bedfordshire Police, in which an officer left a card asking for Junead to call him. Junead wrote to Shazib: 'They trying to stop me from becoming a (sic) extremist or terrorist. Lool. Left a card. They want me to call them on Monday.' Shazib replied 'that crack me up' http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9528024669.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9528024819.jpg Junead Khan, pictured with an ISIS flag, joked about the Government's anti-extremism programme. He and his uncle are believed to have daubed messages mocking democracy around Luton Junead later wrote: 'I ain't gonna fone them like they want me to. I think they suspect I might be wanting to travel to Syria, even though I don't want to right now.' Shazib replied: 'lool', slang for 'laughing outrageously out loud'. Kingston Crown Court heard that Junead then spoke with an officer from Prevent almost a week later, on May 20. Afterwards Shazib sent him a message saying: 'What's pigs saying?' Junead replied: 'Police are sayin nothin jus came to my house today sat down for 20 minutes ask me some propa off key questions... Hopefully the last I hear from them.' Prevent is one of four strands of Contest, the acronym given to the long-standing counter-terrorism strategy, and has previously been at the centre of controversy. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9530483837.jpg A photo which appears to show an ISIS flag being waved outside the US Embassy was found on his phone At the beginning of March, David Anderson QC, the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, said the programme was 'not transparent' and should be independently reviewed. He said the programme had become a 'lightning conductor for a lot of dissatisfaction', saying: 'Nobody really knows what is going on under Prevent. There all sorts of myths swirling round about training materials being biased against Muslims, for example.' Last year new measures were introduced to place a legal requirement on public bodies, including schools and councils, to stop people being drawn into terrorism, as part of efforts to counter the capacity of groups such as Islamic State (IS) to recruit young Britons. Terrorists joked about Government's anti-extremism programme after police went to their home and left a card. . |

Vladimir Putin has diverted a warship to protect the Syrian coast and vowed to bolster Bashar al-Assad's missile defences against further US strikes as fears grew the crisis could topple into war between Russia and the West. Syria's state agency SANA claimed that the missiles killed nine civilians, including four children, even though the bombarded the airbase in the middle of the night. There were reports nine Syrian jets were destroyed. The Pentagon has released dramatic footage of its missiles being launched from USS Ross, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, targeting the Syrian base. Putin this morning denounced the strike as an 'act of aggression against a UN member' and suspended a deal to avoid mid-air clashes with American fighter jets over the war-torn country. The Kremlin's propaganda machine clicked into hear claiming the strikes had 'extremely low' military effectiveness and that just 23 of 59 cruise missiles reached the air base, destroying six Syrian jets but leaving the runway intact. Syrian Army officials called the US airstrike a act of 'blatant aggression', saying it had made America 'a partner' of ISIS, the ex-Nusra Front and other 'terrorist organisations'. The US used a special military-to-military hotline to warn Russia it was launching an airstrike on a Syrian air base about 30 minutes in advance - but the Trump administration did not ask Moscow for permission. It is likely Russia alerted the Syrians about the incoming strikes but this has not been confirmed. Viktor Ozerov, head of the defense committee in the Russian Federation Council, told state news agency RIA that the US strikes 'may undermine the efforts in the fight against terrorism in Syria.' 'Russia will demand an urgent UN Security Council meeting after the US airstrike on Syrian aviation base. This is an act of aggression against a UN member.' Russia's foreign minister says no Russian servicemen have been hurt in the bombing raid. Its security council said it regretted the 'harm' done to relations between Washington and Moscow. The US was also branded 'a partner of ISIS' by al-Assad's spokesman, calling the missile strikes 'reckless and irresponsible' and accused Trump of 'naively falling' for a 'false propaganda campaign' about the Idlib Sarin massacre. Today world leaders praised the US strikes and urged Putin to hold urgent talks with Trump to prevent the Syria crisis escalating into a wider world conflict. French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, speaking alongside German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, said: 'We do not want an escalation. We have to stop the hypocrisy. If Russia is acting in good faith it should stop and negotiate'. 'We do not wish to raise the stakes, but to find a solution. The two chiefs of staff, Major General Mohammad Bagheri and General Valery Gerasimov, "condemned the American operation against a Syrian air base which is an aggression against an independent country", state news agency IRNA said. The American strikes "aim at slowing the victories of the Syrian army and its allies, and reinforcing terrorist groups", they said in a statement. The two army leaders vowed to continue their military cooperation in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad "until the total defeat of the terrorists and those that support them", according to the Mehr news agency. Iran and Russia are Assad's closest allies and label all opponents of his regime as "terrorists". Both governments have defended Assad against Western allegations that his regime carried out a suspected chemical weapons attack on the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhun on Tuesday, killing dozens of civilians. President Hassan Rouhani earlier criticised his US counterpart Donald Trump for the missiles fired early on Friday in response to the suspected chemical attack. re: IS/Al-Qaeda/TERRORISM: 8 Found GUILTY For 2016 France Attack
ISIS Bride Lisa Smith Found GUILTY of Being Member of Murderous Terrorist Group
Former Irish Defence Forces soldier Lisa Smith, 39, accompanied an ex-president on foreign trips before travelling to war-torn Syria in 2015 after becoming radicalised Daily Mirror 30 MAY 2022 https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incomin...g_12995JPG.jpg Smith married an English ISIS fighter who was killed in Syria https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incomin...T-CONFLICT.jpg Smith is seen arriving at Dublin's Central Criminal Court on January 8 A former Irish soldier has been found not guilty of trying to finance ISIS - but guilty of being a member of the terror group. Ex Irish Defence Force member Lisa Smith, 39, was acquitted today of attempting to finance the terrorist organisation by sending a fighter an 800 Euro Western Union money transfer in 2015. But the juryless Special Criminal Court in Dublin - which tries terrorists and other serious organised crime figures - found Smith guilty of being a member of ISIS in a ruling today. Smith - who left the army after reading the Koran in 2010 and converting a year later - started her lengthy trial in January. She once accompanied an ex-president and leader of Ireland on foreign trips as a soldier but went to war-torn Syria in 2015 after becoming radicalised, according to the prosecution's case. The 39-year-old maintained her innocence throughout the proceedings and claimed she went to live in the so-called Islamic State to follow the teachings of the Koran. Prosecutors argued that Smith - originally from Dundalk - was radicalised online before travelling to the country between 2015 and 2019. The trial was told how Smith watched various radical videos and discussed them online. One of the clips in question showed a Jordanian pilot being burned alive. And evidence of online conversations indicated she knew of the murderous extremists' actions in Syria before travelling there, the Irish Times reports. Michael O'Higgins SC, defending, argued Smith was heartbroken and "desperate to find meaning in life" after the break-up of a long-term relationship that preceded her conversion. Mr O'Higgins made two attempts to close the case down on the grounds of lack of evidence but both claims were rejected by the court. While on remand, Smith was kept in solitary confinement on a maximum security wing in Limerick Smith denied the allegations, claiming she travelled to the so-called Islamic State to study Islam and the Koran The defence also argued Smith was the only person tried for travelling to Syria with the purpose of building the so-called "Caliphate" without actually committing a terror act. He drew attention to the doctors, lawyers, and NGOs that also travelled to the area without facing prosecution, the Irish Times reports. Smith told police after her arrest she didn't want to travel to the Middle Eastern country, but believed she would die in "hellfire" if she didn't. She travelled to Raqqa where she met and married an English ISIS fighter and gave birth to their daughter in summer 2017. After her husband was killed, she and her daughter stayed at different refugee camps before being flown back to Ireland in 2019, according to the Irish Times. The judge today said Smith's intention to send 800 euro to an ISIS fighter could not be ruled beyong a reasonable to doubt to not be a charitable or humanitarian donation. Mr Justice Tony Hunt said there was "sufficient ambiguity" as to the reasonable doubt and acquitted Smith of the charge. That ruling was related to a charge under the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) Act 2005 for financing terrorism by sending €800 in assistance, via a Western Union money transfer, to a named man on May 6, 2015. But the court found her guilty relating to a second charge of being a member of the unlawful terrorist group. In 2019, it emerged the terror suspect was forced to stay in her cell in a segregation wing at Limerick Prison for 20 hours a day, the Irish Daily Mirror reported. She was also understood to be wearing her black traditional abaya robe while in her cell and spends her time reading, according to a source. The source said at the time: “She is segregated from other inmates and spends most her time reading books in her cell. She is also allowed to watch TV. “She’s locked up for 20 hours a day and only allowed out for four hours, to use the exercise yard or gym and the like. “Prison staff are trying to facilitate her as best they can and it’s hoped that eventually she will be less restricted. “There is a prayer room in the jail but she appears to use her cell most or the time. When she leaves her cell she has her full robe on.” |

Perpetrator of Syrias’ Tadamon MASSACRE Still Working on Military Base
Maj Amjad Yousef, identified on videos as killer of dozens of people, accused of directing more mass killings The Guardian UK 28 OCT 2022 https://media.guim.co.uk/27dc7195f18..._1045/1000.jpg A still from a leaked video shows Amjad Yousef during the Tadamon massacre. The Syrian intelligence officer at the centre of one of the most shocking acts of the civil war – the Tadamon massacre – is still working on a military base outside Damascus and has since been accused by colleagues of directing up to a dozen more mass killings. Amjad Yousef, a major in one of Syria’s most feared intelligence units, is operating from the Kafr Sousa base, where he has been for most of the past six months since the Guardian revealed his role in shooting dead dozens of people across a death pit in Tadamon, a suburb of the Syrian capital in 2013. A former colleague of Yousef’s said he had admitted to the killings in a phone call with a mutual friend. “He said ‘Yes I did it. That is what I had to do at the time.’ No one was shocked we knew him. And we know the regime,” the former colleague told the Guardian. The images shocked the Syrian diaspora and drew condemnation across Europe and in Washington. France, Germany and the Netherlands have all opened war crimes investigations using laws of universal jurisdiction and are hunting any perpetrators who may have escaped to European soil. German investigators believe they may have identified an associate of Yousef’s now living in Germany and are preparing a case against the former intelligence officer. The Tadamon revelations also caused uproar in Syria, rattling the country’s leadership, which usually keeps a vice-like grip on state secrets, and causing widespread anger even among supporters of the president, Bashar al-Assad. After the revelations, close to 100 long-term prisoners were released from government dungeons. Some had been locked up for more than a decade. The former colleague of Yousef’s told the Guardian that the major had been a feared presence in Tadamon for the past decade, and had regularly snatched women from the streets of the suburb, many of whom were never seen again. “I saw him take women from a bread queue one morning. They were innocent. They had done nothing. They were either raped, or killed. Nothing less.” Yousef was identified through research conducted by Prof Uğur Üngör and the researcher Annsar Shahoud from the University of Amsterdam’s Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The academics were leaked 27 videos, which were downloaded from the laptop used by Branch 227 of the Syrian intelligence, – of which Yousef was deputy leader. The sources who leaked the videos fled Syria earlier this year and their identities are being sought by the country’s military intelligence, which has opened an inquiry into how the material was leaked. In an unpublished video, seen by the Guardian, Yousef shoots up to six women across a pit as his death quad looks on, and sometimes joins the slaughter. The pit is then set alight and a bulldozer brings ash and debris to fill it in, in what appears to be an attempt to eliminate evidence of the war crime. The former colleague said up to a dozen more massacres were carried out in Tadamon and that local people were well aware of the locations. “All of the people were Sunnis,” he said. “This was sectarian cleansing. Nothing else. It was Alawites eliminating Sunnis.” A sectarian dimension to the killings had been suspected, but two more of Yousef’s former colleagues had suggested they were also intended as a warning to communities in or near Tadamon not to collaborate with opposition groups. The source said all massacre sites in Tadamon were no-go zones for local residentsand that the final death toll of killings by Branch 227 could be as high as 350. The videos marked one of the only examples in the Syrian war where senior regime officials were shown committing atrocities. The unit recorded the videos to demonstrate to senior leaders – and even Syria’s political regime – what had taken place. Assad reacted angrily when France announced in August that it would open a war crimes inquiry, telling Paris it was using the allegations as a pretext to try to re-colonise Syria. France said its counterterrorism prosecutor’s office had been handed the videos. “The alleged actions are likely to constitute the most serious international crimes, specifically crimes against humanity and war crimes. The fight against impunity is a matter of justice for the victims. It is also an essential prerequisite for building a lasting peace in Syria. After a decade of crimes against the Syrian people, France remains committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice,” a government spokesperson said. |

Inside Syrias' Horror Hospital Where Doctors TORTURE Suspected Opponents of The Regime
A Damascus Hospital Has Become a Secret Slaughterhouse For Syrians Who Oppose President Bashar al-Assad, ITV 8 OCT 2023 https://media.npr.org/assets/img/201...-s1100-c50.jpg Doctors and nurses use medical equipment to taunt, torture and kill activists during check-ups. https://pix.avax.news/avaxnews/2b/ec...2b_medium.jpeg A Damascus hospital has become a secret "slaughterhouse" for Syrians who oppose President Bashar al-Assad, where doctors and nurses use medical equipment to taunt, torture and kill activists during check-ups. The Syrian regime has exploited special protection afforded to hospitals in conflict zones to turn the facility into a prison and a clearing house for murdered activists. https://images.ctfassets.net/pjshm78...650&h=365&q=80 Many of the victims' bodies are then taken to one of a network of mass graves, including a quarry next door to the hospital. Tishreen Hospital, which was named after the Arabic word for October to commemorate the Yom Kippur War of 1973, is on the northeastern outskirts of Damascus. But the truth of what has happened there over more than a decade – and what is still happening – can be revealed by an ITV News investigation based on interviews and off-the-record conversations with former inmates, regime defectors, activists, and intelligence officials. Analysis of years of satellite images shows how cemeteries have been built where bodies are discarded. At one of the sites, an open pit could be seen as recently as Tuesday this week, ready for more corpses from the military hospital. https://images.ctfassets.net/pjshm78...650&h=370&q=80 "We could say it’s not a hospital in the first place. It’s a slaughterhouse" said ‘Adam’, a political activist who was held at Tishreen for two weeks. ITV News is not revealing the dates of his captivity to help protect his identity. "It’s like a different world. The doctors and the nurses treating the prisoners there, you cannot imagine we are living on the same planet, we are sharing the same oxygen." He described how he was kept in cells close to the main hospital building and was admitted for several hours at a time to be humiliated and beaten. A second mass grave ten miles away in the Baghdad bridge area outside Damascus took many more of the victims Even among some inmates at other prisons, Tishreen had developed a reputation. Adam was transferred there after detention at another facility, where soldiers would threaten him with a trip to Tishreen, saying: "Is there anyone who would like to meet his Lord so we can send him to the hospital?" Adam travelled to Frankfurt to speak to ITV News, close to where he has made a new home. https://images.ctfassets.net/pjshm78...650&h=687&q=80 But he arrived with evidence of his torture during his previous life – an X-ray image he smuggled from Tishreen showing his badly injured foot, and pictures of the wounds he suffered during his captivity. When he lifted his shirt, he revealed another scar caused by a doctor who lunged at him with a knife. "A doctor looked at me and told me 'You will be dead in a few days,' he had a sharp knife, a medical knife, and he just stabbed me in my chest… He stabbed me in my chest on the left side." It was part of a pattern of behaviour by medics, who wore medical coats, but spoke like regime propagandists. "When one of the nurses came to me and she saw my feet bleeding at that time she said: 'OK we’re going to help you' and she brought medical forceps and she started to shove them inside my feet. I was just holding [back] my screams." She had plunged the device into an open wound. "The bones were outside," Adam says. "And they started to tell us: 'You look like a terrorist, you are a piece of sh*t, you are like a**holes' and at that time, I was just like a skeleton, I was nearly 40 kilos. "I was totally shocked, I expected this from the soldiers, from the military, but these are nurses, and these are doctors." Parts of Adam’s account are echoed by several other witnesses who have spoken to ITV News, former inmates arrested for political activism, who were amongst the few who managed to get out of detention. Speaking in northern Syria, Mohammed Medlej, a political activist who was held there between 2017 and 2021, described how he thought he was going to be killed during a massacre inside the hospital. "A soldier entered the dormitory, and he trapped us all in a corner and started dragging us out one by one. "He would put a towel on one of us until they would choke, and foam or liquid would come out, or until they would have five minutes left and they would fall over and die." "He started to execute us one by one, and I was one of the people tasked with removing the bodies and piling them up. "The soldier killed six of the group and then it was my turn. He told me, 'Your turn is coming, get ready'. "I was so frightened I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. In the end, I thought 'thank God, the end is finally here,' I was going to die, and it will all be over." https://images.ctfassets.net/pjshm78...650&h=365&q=80 Mohammed Medlej escaped execution. Thousands of Syrian government troops have reportedly fled as rebel forces claim they have not encountered resistance by government forces while entering the countrys capital. Iran and Russia are possible destinations for the Syrian leader. As the lightning rebel offensive appears to reach its endgame, two images may last long in the mind. The assault this weekend has focused on the capital Damascus and the key western city of Homs. It was clear their progress was rapid when protesters brought down a statue of Bashar al Assads late father in a suburb a few miles from the centre of Damascus on Saturday In Homs, where rebels say they have taken full control, crowds appear to have toppled another statue - again of his father Hafez al Assad - in scenes shared on social media. From Queen?s, where she achieved four A-levels, Asma went to King?s College London to read Computer Science and take a diploma in French Literature. She graduated with a First and, after six months of travelling, joined Deutsche Bank as an analyst in hedge-fund management. She then moved to the investment bank JP Morgan and worked in Paris and New York, as well as London. On family holidays back in Syria, she met Bashar. Then he, too, came to London to study ophthalmology, though he had to leave early to return to Syria after his elder brother Basil, who had been the heir, died in a car crash. Asma started seeing him in secret, resigning from JP Morgan just a month before the wedding without being able to explain the real reason. With her father, she has set up several London-based charities such as the Syria Heritage. The attacks used B-52 bombers, F-15 fighters and A-10 Warthogs, which have already been flying over the country this month for other attacks. ?There should be no doubt - we will not allow ISIS to reconstitute and take advantage of the current situation in Syria,? Gen. Erik Kurilla, head of CENTCOM, wrote in a statement. All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they partner with or support ISIS in any way. Lebanons Hezbollah Sees Major, Dangerous Change in Syria https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/...=768&h=512&m=6 Lebanons Hezbollah views events in Syria as a major, dangerous and new transformation", a senior Hezbollah politician said on Monday, the Iran-backed groups first reaction to the toppling of its ally Bashar al-Assad. Hezbollah played a major part propping up Assad through years of war in Syria, before bringing its fighters back to Lebanon over the last year to fight in a bruising war with Israel - a redeployment which weakened Syrian government lines. His downfall has stripped Hezbollah of a vital ally along Lebanon's eastern border. Assad-ruled Syria long served as a vital conduit for Iran to supply weapons to the Shi'ite Islamist Hezbollah. "What is happening in Syria is a major, dangerous and new transformation, and how and why what happened requires an evaluation, and the evaluation is not done on the podiums," Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah said in a statement. Syrian armed groups led by the Sunni Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham swept into Damascus on Sunday, seizing the capital and forcing Assad to leave for Russia. Israel dealt heavy blows to Hezbollah during more than a year of hostilities, which began when the Lebanese group opened fire on 8 Oct. 2023 in solidarity with its Palestinian ally Hamas in Gaza. Syrian Leader Offers Reward For Details of Assad Torturers https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/d0550...none&crop=none The rebel leader now running much of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has offered rewards for senior army and intelligence officers involved in war crimes, as the Assad regimes sudden fall brought hopes of justice for the many atrocities of one of the worlds most brutal dictatorships. We will not hesitate to hold accountable the criminals, murderers, security and army officers involved in torturing the Syrian people,Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app on Tuesday. He added that Syrias new authorities would seek the return of Assad regime officials who have fled abroad. However, legal experts who been compiling evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria cautioned that Syria was a long way from having a legal system capable of conducting war crimes trials. The regime was the worst abuser by far, and was detaining more than 135,000 people ? including nearly 4,000 children ?at the time of its fall. But there were other perpetrators too, including Sharaas Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (HTS), which is thought responsible for the detention or forcible disappearance of 2,514 Syrians, including 46 children. In the euphoria and the thrill of the moment, we should not lose sight [of these problems] said Alan Haji, who is working on war crimes cases in The Hague for the Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC), a Syrian-led human rights organisation. In the Syrian penal code, there is no such thing as a war crime or crimes against humanity or genocide, and there?s no prescribed punishment for such crimes If a path to justice has been opened up by the regime collapse, it is likely to be long and strewn with obstacles. |

A colossal explosion has been witnessed in Northwestern Syria near the city of Tartus, following an Israeli strike on a munitions depot. The blast was so enormous that it registered as a 3.0 magnitude earthquake on nearby seismic sensors. Researcher Richard Cordaro revealed that the explosion was detected by a magnetometer station 820km away in Isnik, western Turkiye. He noted that the signal travelled twice as fast as a typical earthquake. A naval military base was first established by the Soviet Union in Tartus in 1971. Until 2017, the facility was categorised as a Material-Technical Support Point rather than a base and serves as Russias only access point to the Mediterranean. The centre was used for the delivery of armaments and supplies when Russia intervened in the Syrian civil war in 2015. Putin ordered the expansion of the base in 2017 after Assad offered a 49-year lease on the facility free-of-charge in return for assistance in maintaining his power. Russia also operated a base at Hmeimim in 2015, repurposing an existing civilian airport near the port city of Latakia. The facility is believed to be well protected, with security perimeters and air defences that have a range of up to 250 kilometres (155 miles), according to Russian state media. While the Russian army doesn't disclose deployment numbers, analysts believe the number of soldiers stationed there significantly decreased following Putin's invasion of Ukraine. On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Kremlin revealed that Moscow was in touch with Syrias new authorities concerning the future of their bases. However, the recent air strikes have cast further doubt on the fate of Russian assets in the country, including the Hmeimim military airfield. Reports in the Turkish media suggested she wanted to move back to the UK, where she holds dual nationality, for cancer treatment. Asmas father also appeared to have left the UK AP 30 DEC 2024 https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/...trip=all&w=920 https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/...trip=all&w=960 BASHAR al-Assads wife Asma has been effectively barred from returning to the UK. The 49-year-old - who was born in London - will be unable to return home as her passport has expired. Asma, her weedy tyrant husband, and their family are currently living in exile on Moscow. The couple fled the collapse of Syria as Assads two decades in power were wiped away in a matter of days by rampaging rebels. Russian despot Vladimir Putin - a friend of the family - offered them refuge as they desperately escaped in the Middle East. But since their exile, there have been reports Asma wants to return to the UK - and may even be seeking divorce. Asma is reportedly suffering from leukaemia and has only a 50/50 chance of survival. But without official UK travel documents she will be barred from returning home, reports The Times. https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/...trip=all&w=960 Asma is believed to have played a key role in her husbands blood-soaked regime. She indulged in a luxurious lifestyle and ensured her power and comfort while Syrias people were brutally oppressed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B42S_K7EI-8 , |
