A Maltese-registered cargo ship, MV Ruby, carrying 20,000 tonnes of explosive ammonium nitrate, is causing widespread alarm as it drifted through the English Channel after being rejected by several European ports. Maritime authorities in the UK are closely monitoring the situation. The MV Ruby, is a Maltese flagged vessel which was initially anchored in the European Economic Zone outside the twelve-mile limit but moved inshore due to inclement weather conditions in the North Sea." He also added the ship is not Russian owned and that "no international law has been broken or sanctions breached." Residents had been concerned that the ship was anchored close to a university, hospital as well as hundreds of houses. Newsweek previously reported the Rubys propeller, hull, and rudder were damaged.
