The international world order is ?under threat in a way we haven?t seen since the Cold War?, the heads of the UK and US foreign intelligence services have warned.
The chiefs of MI6 and the CIA also said both countries stand together in "resisting an assertive Russia and Putin's war of aggression in Ukraine".
In a first-ever joint article, Sir Richard Moore and William Burns wrote in the Financial Times, external that they saw the war in Ukraine coming "and were able to warn the international community", in part by declassifying secrets to help Kyiv.
And they said there was work being done to "disrupt the reckless campaign of sabotage" across Europe by Russia, push for de-escalation in the Israel-Gaza war, and counterterrorism to thwart the resurgent Islamic State (IS).
In the FT op-ed, they wrote: ?There is no question that the international world order ? the balanced system that has led to relative peace and stability and delivered rising living standards, opportunities and prosperity ? is under threat in a way we haven?t seen since the Cold War.?
?Successfully combating this risk? is at the foundation of the special relationship between the UK and US, they added.
One of the ?unprecedented array of threats? faced by both countries is the war in Ukraine, which is in its third year after Russia's invasion in February 2022.
Sir Richard and Mr Burns said "staying the course is more vital than ever" when it comes to supporting Ukraine, adding Russian President Vladimir Putin ?will not succeed?.
The conflict has shown how technology can alter the course of war, and highlighted the need to "adapt, experiment and innovate", they said.
They continued: ?Beyond Ukraine, we continue to work together to disrupt the reckless campaign of sabotage across Europe being waged by Russian intelligence, and its cynical use of technology to spread lies and disinformation designed to drive wedges between us.?

The pair also made their first public speaking appearance together at the FT Weekend Festival at London's Kenwood House on Saturday.
Mr Burns told attendees he saw no evidence Mr Putin's grip on power was weakening, while Sir Richard added: "Don?t ever confuse a tight grip with a stable grip."
The fact Russian intelligence services are using criminal elements for sabotage operations in Europe is a sign they are "a bit desperate", said the MI6 chief.
Both foreign intelligence services see the rise of China as the main intelligence and geopolitical challenge of the century. They have reorganised their services ?to reflect that priority?, the pair said in their op-ed.
They also said they have pushed ?hard? for restraint and de-escalation in the Middle East, and have been working ?ceaselessly? to secure a ceasefire and hostage deal.
Mr Burns, who has been central to ceasefire efforts, indicated at the FT event there may be a more detailed proposal in the coming days.
?This is ultimately a question of political will? he said, adding he ?profoundly? hopes leaders on both sides will do a deal.
It is 11 months since Hamas attacked southern Israel on 7 October, killing about 1,200 people and taking another 251 hostage.
More than 40,000 people have been killed in Gaza since then in Israel's ongoing military campaign, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

Vladimir Putin will give Brits "three days to leave UK" before hitting the island with an "atomic" tsunami, a Russian MP has claimed.
Hardline politician Lt-Gen Andrei Gurulev openly discussed the terrifying idea on Russian state TV, suggesting the Russian dictator will use Moscow?s unique Poseidon high-speed underwater atomic drone to deter Britain and its allies from allowing Ukraine to launch long-range missiles into Russian territory.
He even went on to sickeningly taunt Brits, laughing: ?Swim, swim, swim?.
Poseidon, which has so far not been used, is an unmanned nuclear-powered underwater drone with an ?unlimited range?. Putin sees it as part of his new nuclear arsenal and classifies it a ?super weapon?, which is designed to carry strategic nuclear warheads of up to 100 megatons and could unleash catastrophic destruction.
It is believed Poseidon will be ready soon, but details of tests remain classified
It is seen as a weapon without comparison in the world and is described as a hybrid between a nuclear missile and a submarine.
Gurulev, a former tank commander and military strategist, was speaking on channel Rossiya-1, which is controlled by the Kremlin.
He demanded a ?critical threat? from Putin, just days after former Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for Western nations to give Ukraine greater firepower and permission to attack inside Russia.
Gurulev said:* ?There is, of course, a more radical option. The people of Britain are there, they also want to live a good and happy life at our expense, right?
But if there is no Britain, there is no problem.

*?Clearly, without using our strategic nuclear forces, we have enough non-strategic [tactical] nuclear weapons, which will [be launched] and leave nothing of Britain - a normal pre-emptive strike.?
Gurulev claimed the US would not respond with strategic missiles because it would be afraid of Russia doing the same.....
He asked: ?Do you think we'll get a response? From who? Britain is done.
The terrifying conversation took place on Russian channel Rossiya-1, which is controlled by the Kremlin
"Against the United States [we have our] Strategic Missile Forces, our long-range aviation and our navy?.?

?So you are suggesting that we warn the British that if they supply [long-range missiles to Ukraine] and give the go-ahead to use [them], then we strike??
But Gurulev said Russia needed a ?different? approach - involving the pre-emptive use of Poseidon.

German submarine-hunting planes will patrol the North Atlantic from a base in Scotland under a new Britain-Germany defense pact in response to the growing threat from Russia, officials said.

Defense ministers from Britain and Germany will sign the agreement in London on Wednesday in what officials call the first such defense pact between the two countries to boost European security amid rising Russian aggression.
"The U.K. and Germany are moving closer together. With projects across the air, land, sea, and cyber domains, we will jointly increase our defence capabilities, thereby strengthening the European pillar within NATO," German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in a statement ahead of signing the deal.
"It is particularly important to me that we cooperate even more closely to strengthen NATO?s eastern flank and to close critical capability gaps, for instance in the field of long-range strike weapons," he added.
Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Under the deal, German submarine hunter aircraft are expected to operate "periodically" from a Scottish military base to patrol the North Atlantic. The allies will work closer together to protect vital underwater cables in the North Sea.
The two countries say they will also cooperate to prioritize developing long-range strike weapons that can travel farther than the U.K.'s existing Storm Shadow missiles. German defense giant Rheinmetall is also expected to open a factory producing artillery gun barrels using British steel.
Officials say the pact will mean British and German forces committed to NATO in Estonia and Lithuania will exercise and operate together more closely, ensuring that "land forces on NATOs eastern flank remain a strong deterrent and are ready to fight and win if required.
"Britain and Germany are also expected to collaborate on developing new land-based and aerial drones.

The drones were sighted in the skies near RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall, in Suffolk, and RAF Feltwell, in Norfolk, a US Air Force spokesperson confirmed.
All airbases are continuing to be monitored after the drones were seen overnight and on Tuesday
Military troops have since been drafted in over concerns Russia is behind a spate of sabotage flights.
It comes just days after a fleet of "unmanned aerial devices" were identified flying above the sites.

The RAF says the ORCUS system ? which can fit in the back of a Chinook heliopter ? can "detect, track, identify and, if necessary, defeat hostile drones".
All airbases are continuing to be monitored after the drones were seen overnight and on Tuesday.
The first lot of incidents occurred between November 20 and 22.
The US Air Force, which has fighter jets on standby at the locations, said at the time it was unclear whether the drones were considered hostile.
A spokesperson for US Air Forces, in Europe, last week said: "We can confirm that small unmanned aerial systems (UASs) were spotted in the vicinity of and over RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Feltwell between November 20 and 22.

A Russian warship has fired at a German army helicopter over the Baltic Sea.
The crew of the Russian ship fired signal ammunition at the military aircraft, the German Press Agency in Brussels reported. The Bundeswehr helicopter had been on a reconnaissance flight.
It comes amid rising tensions in recent weeks between the Kremlin and NATO countries after UK and US missiles were used by Ukraine to attack Russia. Vladimir Putin has since warned that both nations are now "directly involved" in the conflict. Germany has spent the past year reorganising its military to get it ready for war, in the words of Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, who has set up a new cyber and information branch in addition to the traditional navy, army and air force.
Signal ammunition is typically only used by vessels in emergency situations. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who confirmed the incident at a NATO conference but did not state when it took place, said many Russian ships in the Baltic Sea had been involved in circumventing sanctions.
She added that security measures surrounding undersea pipelines and data cables had been increased, and cited recent attacks on infrastructure in the area. Last month, two fibre optic cables in the Baltic Sea were damaged - one between Sweden and Lithuania, and the other between Finland and Germany. Investigations have centred on a Chinese vessel called Yi Peng 3, which is said to have passed through the affected areas at the time.
On Thursday, Swedens prime minister Ulf Kristersson said that Swedish authorities were seeking clarity from China about what happened. A similar incident last year saw a gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia severely damaged.
Russia has also been accused in recent months of jamming GPS signals in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and eastern Mediterranean. In March, a RAF plane carrying then-Defence Secretary Grant Shapps had its GPS signal interrupted while flying near Russian territory.

NATO fighter jets were scrambled in response after an air raid warning was sounded
NATO warplanes were scrambled today after a Russian drone crashed following an encroachment of Romanian airspace.
Footage showed a dramatic explosion believed to be at a port on the Ukrainian side of the River Danube, which forms the frontier with Romania.
But reports in Bucharest said the same wave of attacks that a Putin drone had crashed near Tulcea county on the Romanian side of the border.
The Russian incursion triggered the response by NATO fighters, and an air raid warning to residents close to the Danube in Romania.
Residents were told to take shelter in safe areas for 90 minutes during an alert warning that objects could still be falling from the sky.

The German chancellor has visited Lithuania to mark Berlins first permanent foreign troop deployment since the second world war, as he called on allies to dramatically expand their efforts to bolster European defences against a hostile Russia.
As a crowd waved Lithuanian, German and Ukrainian flags, Friedrich Merz and his defence minister, Boris Pistorius, attended a ceremony launching the official formation of an armoured brigade aimed at protecting Natos eastern flank.
The new heavy combat unit, the 45th tank brigade, will comprise 4,800 German soldiers and 200 civilian staff. It was announced in response to Russias full scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and is scheduled to reach full operational capacity by 2027.
Merz said: Together with our partners, we are determined to defend the alliance territory against any aggression. The security of our Baltic allies is also our security.
The deployment, unprecedented for the Bundeswehr, is aimed at shoring up the defence of Lithuania and its fellow Baltic republics Estonia and Latvia, former Soviet states that have become Nato and EU members and fear a Russian attack.
At a news conference in Vilnius with Lithuanias president, Gitanas Nausėda, Merz said Russias aggressive revisionism seeking to redraw the European map created grave security risks for the entire continent, not only Ukraine.
Merz, the first chancellor to have served in the Bundeswehr, said: We stand firmly by Ukraine but we also stand together as Europeans as a whole and we play, whenever possible, as a team with the US.
In the buildup to a Nato summit next month in The Hague, Merz said the alliance must sustainably strengthen European defence capabilities and our defence industry must expand its capabilities it has to produce more for Europe and produce more in Europe
