A tsunami warning was issued in Japan after a fierce 7.6 magnitude earthquake was detected off a coastal area in the east.
The quake struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture and triggered a warning for a tsunami as high as three metres to land. One person, posting to X, said the impact caused their whole house to shake.
Japans government later downgraded the warning to a tsunami advisory which is issued for tsunamis expected to be up to one metre high.
