Britain Battered by Snow, Ice & Floods
The Met Offices amber warnings for snow and ice remain in effect, as widespread disruptions continue to affect roads, railways, and airports.
Emergency services have been responding to multiple incidents, and power cuts have hit several areas, including parts of the Midlands, South West, and South Wales, including Birmingham, Cardiff, and Bristol.
Bristol Airport suspended flights on Saturday evening due to challenging weather conditions, with further delays expected. Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines for updates.
Up to 30cm of snow could bury rural communities, and authorities have warned that some areas could be completely cut off.
The situation is particularly dire in parts of Wales and the Midlands, where heavy snow is making travel increasingly difficult.
US States Declare Emergencies
At least five people have died in a winter storm that has seized a swathe of the US in its icy grip, leading to mass school closures, travel chaos and power cuts.
Seven US states declared emergencies: Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Arkansas.
More than 2,300 flights have been cancelled, with nearly 9,000 delays also reported owing to the extreme weather caused by the polar vortex of icy cold air that usually circles the North Pole.
Around 190,000 people had no power early on Tuesday across states in the storms path
Snow and sleet is forecast to continue through the day in much of the north-eastern US, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
