Hurricane Ernesto Makes Landfall on Bermuda as a Category 1 Hurricane
Hurricane Ernesto has made landfall on the British overseas territory of Bermuda. The Mirror 19 AUG 2024 ![]() ![]() Bermuda ![]() UK Met Office issues THREE yellow weather warnings as Hurricane Ernesto brings 3 months of rain in one day The wide category 1 storm was directly over the wealthy territory at 6am local time on Saturday, with maximum sustained winds of 85mph. The US National Hurricane Centre warned of strong winds, a dangerous storm surge and significant coastal flooding. On its website, the national forecaster said the start of next week is bringing a "change in weather type" with it. Monday will start bright for many people, but it will change as a weather front slams in from the west of the isles. It'll bring rain to the north and western parts of the UK at first, but will cover most of the country before the end of the day. Though it's likely that the south-east will see the driest conditions, there is still a chance of some rain. Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tony Wisson explains: “The once powerful system itself will break down before it reaches us, but the warmth and moisture it once contained will become entrained within a mid-latitude frontal weather system. This will lead to unsettled conditions for the UK, especially across the north and west, with heavy rain and strong winds expected here.” |
