Important RED ALERT: Tornado & Flooding Set to Hit Britain

DANGER WARNING:

Ferocious 75mph Winds to Batter Brits as Met Office Issues Fresh Danger Warning

Gale force winds are expected to develop over the Western Isles during the early hours with the Outer Hebrides likely to see the strongest gusts

Daily Mirror 9 FEB 2022

A yellow weather warning has been issued as ferocious gale force 75mph winds are set to batter parts of the UK.

The Met Office says winds are expected to develop over the Western Isles during the early hours with the Outer Hebrides likely to see the strongest winds.

A Met Office spokeswoman said: "A brief period of strong to gale west to southwesterly winds will transfer quickly eastwards across the rest of the warning area on Thursday morning, gusts typically around 50mph, but perhaps approaching 60mph in a few locations.

"Whilst such wind speeds are not unusual for the time of year, recently weakened trees and structures may mean a greater likelihood of localised damage or disruption."

Forecasters say Brits should be prepared for some short term loss of power and other services, some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport and difficult driving conditions and possible delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

The warnings for wind is one of three yellow weather warnings in place for today and tomorrow with the strong winds starting in parts of Scotland from 3am on Thursday.

The other two warnings, from the Met Office, warn of ice across Northern Ireland and snow in parts of Scotland.

The snow warning begins at 4pm today and lasts until 10am tomorrow, while the ice for Northern Ireland begins at 6pm tonight until 11am tomorrow.

The freeze is set to last through the week, with Thursday now predicted to be the most likely day for snow to fall as temperatures plunge to lows of -7C in Scotland.

Senior British Weather Services meteorologist Jim Dale said conditions on Thursday will be perfect for snow.

Snow is expected to be widespread when it covers the isles next week - with southern England also set to lie in its icy path.

Mr Dale told the Express, the risk for the next 10 days is between two and three centimetres of snowfall in northern areas and more than ten times that for mountainous parts of the country.

Movies re: RED ALERT: Great Storm:Death & Damage Across UK-Worst Storm For 30 Years

RED ALERT: 100mph Winds Smash UK

UK faces winds like Great Storm. Rare red alert for 100mph winds to smash UK in Worst Storm For 30 Years'

'Red' warnings as powerful Storm Eunice & Storm Dudley
batters UK - Millions told to stay at home as Storm Eunice hits

The UK braces itself for one of the worst storms in three decades as hundreds of schools close.

BBC News 18 FEB.2022.

High winds have seen flights cancelled, hundreds of schools shut, and a number of major bridges around the country closed.

The Met Office has issued red weather warnings - meaning there is a danger to life - covering much of southern and eastern England and south Wales.

One gust of 122mph on the Isle of Wight set an interim record in England.

The gust was measured at The Needles, an exposed point at the western extremity of the island.

Power cuts have left more than 50,000 properties in south-west England and south Wales without power.

BBC Weather said Eunice "could well be one of the worst storms in three decades".

It is the second storm in a week for the UK after Storm Dudley battered parts of Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland, leaving thousands of homes without power.

Red weather warnings are rare, and mean that roofs could be blown off, power lines brought down and trees uprooted - as well as flying debris which could cause a danger to life.

This is the first red warning to be issued for either London or south-east England since the system was introduced in 2008.

High winds have led to:

Hundreds of school closures in much of Wales and affected areas of England, including in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and Bristol

The closure of the two Severn bridges between England and Wales, the Britannia Bridge between Anglesey and mainland Wales, the A14 Orwell Bridge in Suffolk, and the QEII Bridge in Dartford

The Humber Bridge, near Hull, has also had to close for only the fourth time in 40 years

More than 200 delays or cancellations of flights into Heathrow and Gatwick

Train cancellations and speed limits imposed on much of the network

Fallen trees blocking multiple train lines and roads

The UK's last red warning was for Storm Arwen in November last year, but before that one had not been issued since the so-called "Beast from the East" in 2018.

The Met Office said people should avoid travelling if they could and stay at home when winds reach the highest speeds.

Ten severe flood warnings - meaning there is a danger to life - are in place on the Severn Estuary and the Wye Estuary. Less serious flood warnings and alerts have been issued for other parts of England, Scotland and Wales.

River flooding in the Pennines, North Yorkshire and Lancashire is expected during the weekend. The water level in rivers, lakes and streams is likely to rise and overflow due to a combination of after-effects of Storm Dudley and snow melting.

A government source told the BBC they were "well-prepared" with more than 250 high-volume pumps and 6,000 trained staff able to be deployed, adding they were not taking the threat posed by Eunice "lightly".7

Major incidents have been declared in Cornwall, Gloucestershire, Avon and Somerset and Hampshire.

In Cornwall and Somerset, residents are being urged to stay at home and only travel if "absolutely necessary", while both councils advised people to stay back from cliffs and seafronts due to the danger of large waves.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Mr Johnson said the Army was "on stand-by" to support those affected. The government is due to hold a second emergency Cobra meeting about the storm on Friday morning.

Tornado With Lightning and Flooding Set to Hit Britain

Storm Franklin is set to strike tonight as winds reach 80mph and parts of the country could see "brief tornadoes" and cloud-to-ground lightning as Britain's storm season rumbles on

BBC News 21 FEB.2022.

Brief Tornadoes Could Strike in Britain Today

The UK has been issued a 'tornado' warning with intense flooding also set to strike amid Storm Franklin.

According to Chadderton Weather Centre in Greater Manchester, the violent storm phenomenon could arrive this afternoon in the north-west as wind gusts reach 80mph.

The data was taken from the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation.

Writing on Twitter, the independent meteorologist warned of "isolated brief tornadoes", as well as cloud-to-ground lightning.

It comes after the Met Office named it's third storm in less than a week following on from Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice.

An amber weather warning was also put in place in Northern Ireland from midnight until 7am on Monday.

It could cause "travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and the potential risk to life and property".

Milder yellow warnings for wind cover England, Wales and the south-western edge of Scotland for midday until 3pm on Sunday, and for the same period on Monday.

Environment agencies have also issued hundreds of alerts for flooding across the UK, and the North West is expected to be worst hit by up to 80mm of rain.

Eunice destroyed buildings and left 1.4 million homes without power on Friday - bringing the strongest winds seen on these shores since the Great Storm of 1987.

Storm Dudley also hit parts of the UK last week, and meteorologist Becky Mitchell said three named storms in such quick succession is a first since the system was introduced seven years ago.

She told the PA: "This is the first time we have had three named storms within a week, and we started the storm naming system in 2015.

"At the moment we've got a really active jet stream, which is why we're seeing so many storms track right towards the UK.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for Northern Ireland

"We had Dudley on Wednesday, Eunice on Friday and Franklin today."

Ms Mitchell said there will "definitely be some impact" from Storm Franklin but it is not expected to be "as severe" as Eunice because the strongest winds will be confined to the coast.

Gusts of 60-70mph are predicted to hit inland Northern Ireland in the early hours of Monday morning, while 80mph speeds are expected on the coast.
