Cold Spell Slams Europe ( Photos )
Freshly plowed snow frames a road in Bucharest, Romania, on Friday. For the past week, much of Eastern Europe has been struggling with subzero temperatures and extreme wintry weather. Other parts of Europe, as well as central and western Turkey, have also been affected by the unusually cold weather. People walk on an ice-covered dam next to frozen Black Sea waters near Bucharest. The Romanian capital saw a low Wednesday of -23 degrees Celsius (-9.4 degrees Fahrenheit). A man clears snow off a vehicle in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Friday. iReporter Cosmin Stan sent in this photo from Bucharest, Romania. "The problem was not the quantity of the snow, but the strong winds," he told CNN.
