The massacre of a family of five, including three children, sent shockwaves through a small towns close knit community. To this day, the scars left by the horrifying events run deep and continue to haunt those old enough to remember the grisly details.

Fishkill, in New York, can be found around 60 miles north of the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. Quiet, safe and picturesque with plenty of historic charm, the town is popular with families who want easy access to the great outdoors.

But in January 19, 2007, their lives were tragically cut short, all five wiped out. The appalling incident initially left investigators baffled, but they eventually pieced it together. It was not a normal fire, Ronald Arrigo, of Fishkill Fire Department, told Oxygens Family Massacre true crime series.

First, they found the bodies of the three boys with visible signs of trauma. They next searched the property for the boys parents and found Tinas charred remains. Tony, though, was nowhere to be seen. At this point, investigators werent sure whether he was another victim or the person responsible for the killings. When his burned out car was located nearby, it added to the confusion.

The truth was harrowing. A postmortem revealed Tinas body was in fact two bodies hers and her husbands. They were burned so badly in the blaze, the body of Tony Morey had melded with his wife, said New York Post reporter Holly Aguirre.

Tony had been shot in once in the neck and Tina in the chest and head. Antonio and Adam had been stabbed multiple times, while Ryan, the youngest of the three children, had suffered a blunt force trauma to the head.

All five were dead before the house caught fire, an autopsy found. Terrence Dwyer, formerly of the NY State Polices Major Crimes Unit, said That changed the nature of the investigation because now you\ve got a whole family wiped out.

Detectives' attention turned to Fishkills underbelly. Tony, it seemed, had not only been using drugs, but selling them too. This gave officers a potential motive. Suspicion fell on his friends and acquaintances. One person of interest, who turned out to have a solid alibi, was able to tell cops Tony had a lockbox containing drugs and cash under his bed.

Eventually, detectives were led to Tonys friend, Charles Gilleo. He had a suspicious cut on his forehead and his explanation of how he got it was far from convincing. He told police he was at home drinking with a pal, Mark Serrano, on the night of the murders.

Tonys drug dealer then told officers he had sold cocaine to Gilleo and Serrano on the night in question, casting doubt on Gilleos alibi. But the real aha moment came when Serranos car was traced, using a mobile plate hunter, to a location near the Morey house on the night of the massacre.

It transpired Tony and Gilleo had argued, most likely over drugs. Next, police found a knife, Tonys lockbox, a gun and bloodstained underwear near Serranos home. The clothing belonged to Serrano, the blood matched the childrens and the gun was the weapon used to shoot Tony and Tina. Seat covers from Serranos car, stashed in his home, were also stained with the boys blood.

Serrano, after being arrested, pinned as much as he could on Gilleo. He told cops he had waited in the car while Gilleo went inside the Morey house. But with no forensic evidence to link Gilleo to the killings, detectives needed something more concrete.

In a stroke of fortune, Tonys dealer, after being busted for a sale, gave them what they needed. He said Gilleo had told him in a phone call that the Moreys had gone before news of their deaths was publicly known.

Dwyer told Oxygen Maybe they wanted more drugs. Maybe there were no drugs. Maybe there was an argument. I cant even begin to get inside their head as to what went wrong. But something went drastically wrong

Serrano, then 30, was tried and convicted in 2007. He was sentenced to 50 years to life imprisonment. Gilleo, 33 at the time, was tried and convicted in 2008. He was given five consecutive life terms.

In court, Serrano testified against Gilleo and confirmed the motive was robbery. He said he was in the house with Gilleo, who first shot Tony and Tina, before killing the boys one by one.

Tinas godfather and uncle, Edward Miller, spoke to the New York Times after the service and asked Why the kids I ask myself that 10 times a day.

One of Adams friends, then 10 year old Gabrielle, heartbreakingly insisted on sleeping in her parents room. Her dad Don Evans initially told her the family had died in the blaze. However, as rumours spread, he was forced to reveal the truth.
