Shocked tourists were left running for their lives after a man was shot to death by assassins who took off on jet skis.
The fatal shooting, which authorities believe was a targeted attack, unfolded outside a five-star hotel in Cancun, Mexico in broad daylight on Wednesday.
A 30-year-old Mexican man was gunned down by four men, who fired multiple shots before two escaped on jet skis and another two fled on foot. In new footage, guests at the hotel could be seen running for cover as a hail of bullets rang out across the beach resort.
Local news website Turquesa News said the victim was allegedly in charge of the jet skis the suspects eventually used to flee. Police and members of the armed forces were sent to the scene, and a marina boat was sent to hunt down the watercraft used in the escape.
In a statement, the five-star Riu Caribe Hotel said that the victim was not a hotel guest or an employee. The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not been identified. On Wednesday, Mexican prosecutors said they believe he may have been involved in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old over the summer.
