Boys 12, Guilty of Machete Attack Are Youngest Murderers Since James Bulger Killers
Unforgiven: The Tragedy of James Bulger and His Killer Boys BBC 10 JUN 2024 Shawn Seesahai Two 12-year-old boys were thought to have become the youngest knife murderers in the UK after they were convicted of a fatal Wolverhampton machete attack. Shawn Seesai, described as a “loving and protective” teenager, was stabbed through the heart at Stownlawn playing fields. It's believed the youths were the youngest defendants convicted of murder in Britain since Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, both 11, were found guilty of killing two-year-old James Bulger in 1993. Jurors at Nottingham Crown Court unanimously convicted both boys of murder on Monday, June 10 following a month-long trial. The court had been told Mr Seesahai was shoulder-barged by the smaller of the two defendants, who “often” carried a machete with a 42.5cm-long blade. He was then punched, kicked, stamped on and “chopped” at with the weapon. In an interview released following the verdicts, Mr Seesahai’s parents Suresh and Maneshwary said they would never get over the loss of their son. Speaking for the first time since their son was murdered, Suresh Seesahai said he felt "sorry" for the parents of the killers and hoped that “justice” was served for his son. The jury retired for deliberations on June 5 and returned on Monday afternoon (June 10) with their guilty verdicts. One of the defendants was also found guilty of having an article with a blade or a point. The other defendant had admitted the charge prior to the trial. |
