Six Dead After Multiple People Including Baby Stabbed in Sydney Australia

Six people have been stabbed to death after a man went on a “killing spree” at a mall in Sydney on Saturday, according to police...

A critically-injured baby's mother is among six shoppers killed, and eight others stabbed, by a man armed with a knife at a major Sydney shopping centre.

Witnesses say the dark-haired, bearded man, wearing a Kangaroos ARL jersey, chased and slashed at shoppers as he went on a wild rampage through Westfield Bondi Junction before he was shot dead by police.

Among the dead is a mother, 38, who threw her stabbed nine-month-old to a bystander in a bid to save his life.

It is understood the baby is undergoing surgery, but the mother has since died from her injuries in hospital.

A witness told Nine News: 'The baby got stabbed and the mum got stabbed.

'The mum came over with the baby and threw it at me. I just helped by holding the baby and trying to compress the baby.

'(It was) very bad... a lot of the blood on the floor ... hope the baby's alright'.

It is believed that the mother and her baby were the first to be targeted by the alleged attacker.

Details later emerged of the heroics of bystanders and a female police inspector who single-handedly tackled the knifeman and shot him dead, before she then started giving CPR to one of his victims.

NSW Police said the officer was attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and that she was allegedly confronted by a man with a knife.

'The man allegedly lunged at the officer, before he was fatally shot,' a spokesperson said.

'The officer conducted CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics, who worked on the man; however, he could not be revived.'

Reports indicate that the first stabbings took place in Myer as shoppers used clothes to quell their bleeding

The alleged attacker was shot dead by a lone policewoman who confronted him on the fifth level

This is the moment a Christian preacher was stabbed mid-sermon at a Church in the Australian capital of Sydney. A video live stream of the sermon captured the moment Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, of the Assyrian Aramaic Church in Sydney’s Wakeley neighbourhood, was attacked.

Emmanuel received non-life-threatening injuries in the attack, which also left three other people hurt. It was not immediately clear who attacked Emmanuel, what exactly he was attacked with, or what motivated the stabbing.

New South Wales Police said an operation is underway in Wakeley after reports of the stabbing. The force stated: "Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command attended a location on Welcome Street, Wakeley, following reports a number of people were stabbed."
The force said officers have arrested a male and he is helping police with their inquiries. NSW Police added: "The injured people suffered non-life threatening injuries and are being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. The community is urged to avoid the area."

But it comes just days after another knife attacker ran amok in a busy Sydney shopping mall, leaving six people dead. Joel Cauchi, who cops say had mental health issues, launched the attack at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction on April 13 before being shot dead by police.
