Movies Ketamine Queen & Four Others Charged in Matthew Perrys' MURDER

Matthew Perry: Friends TV Comedy Star Dies at 54

Matthew Perry, who starred as Chandler Bing on "Friends," has died in an apparent drowning accident at his Los Angeles home, according to the Los Angeles Times, citing law enforcement sources.

BBC 29 OCT 2023

US actor Matthew Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing in the hit '90s TV sitcom Friends, has died at the age of 54, US media report.

The actor was found dead at his home in his Los Angeles, law enforcement sources told US media.

Friends, which followed the fortunes of six young friends living in New York City, aired from 1994 until 2004.

Its final episode was watched by 52.5 million in the US, making it the most watched TV episode of the 2000s.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson told the BBC that first responders went to an address in the Pacific Palisades area, regarding a "water emergency" of an unknown type, but did not name Perry.

Warner Bros TV, which produced Friends, said "we are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry".

"Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family," the statement read.

"The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans."

Born in Massachusetts in 1969, Perry was raised in Ottawa, Canada, where he attended elementary school with Justin Trudeau, who later became Canadian prime minister.

Perry moved to Los Angeles as a teenager. He starred as Chazz Russell in Boys Will Be Boys and also had roles in shows including Growing Pains.

But he became an international star on Friends, a show which followed the lives of six New Yorkers navigating dating, careers and friendship.

The comedy, co-starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow, became one of the most successful shows of all time.

Perry was cast as the awkward Chandler Bing, famous for his sarcastic one-liners. The role earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2002.

Perry battled for years with addiction to painkillers and alcohol, and attended rehabilitation clinics on multiple occasions.

In 2016, he told BBC Radio 2 that he could not remember three years of filming during Friends, because of drink and drugs.

In an interview last year, he spoke about how he did not watch the show.

"I didn't watch the show, and haven't watched the show, because I could go, 'Drinking, opiates, drinking, cocaine,'" he said. "I could tell season by season, by how I looked. That's why I don't wanna watch it, because that's what I see.

Movies re: Arrest Made in Connection With Death of Matthew Perry

Matthew Perrys' Death Investigated by Robbery Homicide Cops Despite No Signs of Foul Play

SCARY New Details On Matthew Perrys’ Death In A Hot Tub

BBC 1 NOV 2023

Emergency responders came to his home after receiving a call at 4:07 p.m that the star had suffered a cardiac arrest. However, once they arrived, they reportedly found the star dead in his hot tub.

The actor was reported to have returned home following a round of pickleball and sent his assistant out on an errand shortly thereafter, but was found unresponsive when the aide returned home just two hours later, prompting her to call for help.

As he was found underwater, he appeared to have drown but no official cause of death has been made yet, as an initial autopsy was "deferred" while the state performs a toxicology report. Investigators said there were no illegal drugs were found at his home although prescription drugs were.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office has released its first report on Matthew Perry, who died Saturday at age 54. On Sunday, the coroner's office updated its case online, saying that the cause of death had been "deferred."

That typically means an autopsy has been completed but the examiner needs more time and is requesting further investigation into the death, including additional studies.

Movies Arrests Made in Connection With Death of Matthew Perry

Arrests Made in Connection With Overdose Death of Matthew Perry

At least one person has been arrested over the death of Friends star Matthew Perry, according to US media.

BBC 15 AUG 2024

Perry, 54, was found unresponsive at his Los Angeles home in October last year. A post-mortem examination found the cause of his death was "the acute effects of ketamine", a controlled drug which the recovering addict was taking as part of supervised therapy.

LA police opened an investigation in May to determine why Perry had so much of the drug in his system.

ABC News and TMZ reported that multiple people had been arrested and were facing federal charges. Other outlets, including NBC News, said at least one arrest had been made.

Police said they would hold a press conference with more details later on Thursday.

Ketamine is used as a treatment for depression, anxiety and pain. People close to Perry told a coroner's investigation after his death that he was was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy.

Just how the actor - who had reportedly not had a supervised infusion session for several days - obtained the drug became the subject of the legal investigation.

Drowning was also listed as a contributing factor in his death, which was ruled an accident. Other contributing factors were coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder.

At the height of his fame, Perry was battling with addiction to painkillers and alcohol, and attended rehabilitation clinics on multiple occasions.

In 2016, he told BBC Radio 2 that he could not remember three years of filming during Friends, because of drink and drugs.

After attempts at treatment, he wrote in his memoir that he had been mostly sober since 2001 - "save for about 60 or 70 mishaps".

Multiple People Charged in Connection to Matthew Perrys' Death

Drugs emporium' at Sangha's home during a raid in March 2024 including 79 bottles containing a clear liquid that field tested positive for ketamine

Five individuals have been charged in connection with the 2023 death of actor Matthew Perry, according to the US Attorney’s Office.

The charges, announced Thursday morning at a press conference in Los Angeles, come after investigators say they uncovered an underground network of drug sellers and suppliers they allege are responsible for distributing the ketamine, a potentially deadly drug, that killed Perry.

The defendants include two doctors, Perry’s live-in personal assistant and a person referred to by authorities as “The Ketamine Queen,” according to a press release from the US Attorney’s office.

US Attorney Martin Estrada said the defendants “took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues.”

“They knew what they were doing was wrong,” Estrada said.

Three of the five charged have reached a plea agreement.

The other two defendants Dr. Salvador Plasencia, of Santa Monica, California, and Jasveen Sangha, who Estrada said ran what amounted to “a drug selling emporium” in her home, were indicted on Wednesday, the US Attorney said.

Plasencia pleaded not guilty to charges including one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, seven counts of distribution of ketamine and two counts of altering and falsifying documents or records related to the federal investigation.

He was held on a $100,000 unsecured bond and surrendered his DEA license, which allowed him to prescribe controlled substances, on an order from Magistrate Judge Alka Sagar. His trial is set for October 8.

Sangha pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute ketamine, and five counts of distribution of ketamine.

The judge revoked a bond Sangha previously had from another charge that was not shared during court and ordered she remain in detention.

Prosecutors argued she is a “significant risk to flee” given her extensive international travel and dual United States and British citizenship and that she appears to be funding herself through drug sales.
