Photos from inside an incestuous house of horror show the basement where a dad allegedly threw incest babies to die.

Piotr Gierasik, 54, and 20-year-old daughter Paulina Gierasik are accused of having a four-year relationship, with the remains of three infants found at their home in Czerniki, in northern Poland, last week.

The pair face life in prison for murder and incest. Police carried out a visit to the property following a tip-off from social services before noticing a stench from the basement. A work colleague of Paulina's had allegedly seen a "disturbing" text message.

There they found the rotting bodies of three children - two of which had been put into plastic bags and buried in a shallow grave under the house. The other baby - thought to belong to another of Pitr's daughters - was left to decompose.

The inspectors had to clamber through a corridor of crudely made cement before lowering themselves into the pitch-black pit where the remains were left.

Neighbours claim the father and daughter would walk around "hand-in-hand", according to reports. Paulina's colleagues at a cake shop in the nearby village of Stara Kiszewa say her father shaved her head so other men wouldn't notice her. They also allege she looked up to him "as if he were God".

Paulina's co-workers suspected she was pregnant after she began wearing loose-fitting clothes before taking time off, but returning sooner than expected. One colleague told Super Express: "We all guessed she was pregnant, I think she had tied belts around herself like a sort of corset. When she returned early from her holiday the change was visible. She was much thinner, weaker, and constantly tired. When we asked about the child, she feigned surprise and denied it."

Another local told Fakt: "They lived like a couple. She called him Piotr, by his first name. They walked around hand in hand. A few months ago, he shaved her head so that other boys wouldn't look at her. She looked up to him as if he were God."

Mariusz Duszyński from the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk confirmed a woman had been charged with two counts of murder and one of having an incestuous relationship with her father. They added the man was charged with three counts of murder and incest with his 20-year-old daughter, as well as another daughter.

Prosecutors say two of the children came from a relationship with the 20-year-old, which was consensual, but the other child was the result of forced sex with a second daughter.

Another spokesperson for the prosecutor's office added that "proceedings have been conducted regarding abuse of other family members" in recent years, including some on "suspicion of incest". However, they were all ended "due to the lack of data sufficient to justify the suspicion of committing the offences". Previous evidence is now being examined.

Piotr's wife Hania died around 15 years ago, leaving him the sole parent of up to a dozen children. A family friend alleges he would beat his late spouse and that he had sex with his daughters while she was still alive.

They added that Hania's death, aged 38, was never explained.
