Terrified schoolchildren leapt from windows today after a gunman stormed their school and slaughtered at least 14 people including kids.

At least 15 people including 11 children were killed when a "man in black" stormed school Number 88 in Izhevsk, 600 miles east of the Russian capital, Moscow.

The shooter has been identified as Artyom Kazantsev, born in 1988, who is thought to have been a former pupil at the school.

A message suspected to have been sent by the attacker reads:

---“What happened is not a terrorist attack.

"As the only reason for what happened, I ask you to cite hatred.
“I am not a member of any extremist organisations, I have no political demands.”

Branded a “NEO-Fascist NAZI” by the Kremlin, Kazantsev wore a black shirt with an image of the Swastika on it and holstered two pistols with 25 cartridge magazines.

Each of the magazines had the word "Hate" crudely scribbled on them.

Teachers and a security guard were killed before the attacker turned the pistol on himself, according to initial reports.

Some of the victims were injured after jumping from windows to escape the shooter's sights.

Among the injured was a seven-year-old girl who sustained a stomach wound and two boys, seven and 16, who suffered chest injuries.

A 10-year-old boy was also shot in the shin, Fontanka reports.

Security services are working to identify the attacker, who was reportedly carrying two pneumatic pistols that had been converted into assault weapons, State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein revealed.

The guns used were Makarov pistols, a Soviet-era semi-automatic sidearm, BAZA reports.

Both pistols used by Izhevsk had home-made key chains attached to them.

The names "Eric" and "Dylan" are woven into one keychain.

On the second, the inscription - “Columbine".Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold staged a notorious US high school massacre at the Columbine School in Colorado in 1999.

Terrified children and a teacher were seen cowering inside in a biology classroom hiding from the gunman.

An unnamed girl posted from inside the siege: “We are in biology class.

“Moved from class to lab. The whole class is sitting and crying. They don't tell us anything. Very scary.”

One video shows children huddled in a classroom aged around nine or ten crouched on the floor.

Reports said school director Elena Semashko, 50, had closeted herself and a wounded teenager in an office.

A major operation was underway from Russian law enforcement to break the siege.
