A woman was left creeped out after she discovered her bathroom walls were leaking a strange red liquid that people online are convinced must be "blood" - with some saying it must be the work of ghosts.

Lexy was horrified by her 'bleeding' bathroom wall

Lexy Chidester, 30, first noticed the liquid trickling down her wall when it appeared next to her bathroom cabinet and trailed over the nearby plug sockets. And while she initially dismissed the bizarre finding as a stain made by her "messy" brother, the woman became more concerned the following day when the red mark doubled in size - making the wall look as though it was "bleeding".

Baffled by what she was seeing, Lexy took to her Instagram account (@lexyraye) and shared a video of her wall which has since been viewed over 6.2 million times - with commenters telling her it's "time to move" as her house must be haunted.

One person said: "Time to move."

As another added: "You need to leave, Satan is coming for you."

And after posting the viral clip, Lexy made it her mission to discover exactly what was happening to her bathroom, and even ordered an at-home mould test kit to make sure the red liquid wasn't a health concern.

Lexy ran several tests to try and solve the mystery

The red liquid was actually caused by rust and wasn't really 'blood'

The college counsellor from California, US, said: "I filmed the video to get someone's opinion on what it was, and what to do because I didn't understand what it was. I spoke with a plumber who talked me through what I was looking for in the pipe system if it was a leak.

"I climbed into the attic and looked for similar coloured goo or wet areas. I got an at-home mould kit to test for mould. There was a discussion of cutting into the wall, but that was the absolute last resort! I am not a handy person to know how to fix leaks, cut into walls, and check house wiring.

"After talking with my family, and ruling out everything it couldn't be using deductive reasoning, the only place really unexplored more closely was the cabinet itself. It was the only thing that made sense.

"There weren’t pipes in that wall, the wood wasn't 'bleeding' that same liquid, there was no trace of it in the wood frame, the attic was dry, the cabinet was the only place that made sense. My brother got pliers and helped me pull the metal back to see if there was anything under where the metal sheets overlapped."
