El Salvador Women Jailed For Suffering Miscarriages
BBC News 4 Jul 2022 El Salvador has seen several high profile cases of women who suffered miscarriages being sentenced to 30 years in jail for murder. In February, four of these women sat down before the the press. Between them, they had served nearly 50 years in prison. Among them was Elsy. who told the BBC: "I just kept thinking, 'Why? Why did those who testified against me do this?'" The country has some of the world's harshest anti-abortion laws, which ban all kinds of terminations even if the pregnancy poses a risk to the mother's life or results from rape or incest.

Inside El Salvadors' Secretive MEGA-Jail - Gang Members Put in New Mega-Prison
Go Inside Cecot: a 40,000-Capacity Jail Where Prisoners Have Little Chance of Release. BBC NEWS 14 JUL 2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Angelica already had a hunch where her missing husband, Darwin, was. But official footage, shared by the government and uploaded on to social media, confirmed her suspicions. Painstakingly scrolling through it, frame by frame, she spotted him 25 minutes into the footage, shaking hands with his cellmate. She pressed pause, rewound, and examined the footage again. Though his head was shaved, and he was wearing nothing except regulation white shorts, she had no doubt that this person was Darwin, whom she had not seen since his arrest 11 months previously. This was her first evidence that he had been transferred to El Salvador’s notorious mega-jail, Center for the Confinement of Terrorism (Cecot), which was opened in January by the country’s president, Nayib Bukele, in Tecoluca, 74km (46 miles) south-east of the capital San Salvador. ![]() Cecot has become a symbol of President Bukele’s notorious "war against gangs", which the country’s ministry of security says has resulted in the detention of at least 68,000 people since the campaign began in March 2022. ![]() ![]() ![]() There are thousands of Salvadorans who have not heard from their detained relatives for months, and who, like Angelica, look for them in videos, photographs, or - in the case of those whose loved ones are in lower security jails - by peeking through small holes in prison walls. But President Bukele’s state of emergency, in a country which had become one of the most violent in the world, is very popular domestically. In a CID Gallup poll of 1,200 citizens in January, 92% of those polled said they had a "favourable opinion" of their leader. His approval is largely fuelled by the drastic drop in recorded murders since his administration took office. Many Salvadorans stress this change, especially in neighbourhoods previously controlled by gangs which sought to intimidate the local population with the motto: "See, hear, shut up". Now residents can cross gang borders without harassment or fear of retaliation. El Salvador’s government says Cecot can hold up to 40,000 prisoners who will exclusively be high-ranking members of two rival gangs - Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and Barrio 18 - whose warfare led to decades of terror and bloodshed in El Salvador. The BBC has been repeatedly denied access to Cecot, but has recreated details of the jail using videos and photos shared by the government, and media outlets who were given access to the prison before it opened; interviews with Salvadoran officials; and documents shared with us by an engineer - on condition of anonymity - who was involved in the prison’s construction. ![]() ![]() Cecot has 256 cells. ![]() Cecot has become a symbol of President Bukele’s notorious "war against gangs", which the country’s ministry of security says has resulted in the detention of at least 68,000 people since the campaign began in March 2022. The space that each prisoner will have in their shared cell remains one of the big unknowns. Plans seen by BBC Mundo indicate each cell is 7.4m x 12.3m, or 91.02sq m - at capacity this would give each person 0.58sq m of space. The Red Cross recommends 3.4sqm per prisoner in a shared cell as an international standard. ![]() El Salvador’s authorities have stated that they do not expect Cecot’s prisoners to ever be released The BBC has been repeatedly denied access to Cecot, but has recreated details of the jail using videos and photos shared by the government, and media outlets who were given access to the prison before it opened; interviews with Salvadoran officials; and documents shared with us by an engineer - on condition of anonymity - who was involved in the prison’s construction.

El Salvador MEGA Prison Locking Up MOST Dangerous Criminals And No One Sleeps
Inmates inside El Salvadors' Centre for the Confinement of Terrorism face brutal conditions with 80 crammed into one cell and no natural daylight as President Bukele takes a tough crackdown on drugs gangs MailOnline 14 JUN 2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() Disturbing pictures have provided a horrifying glimpse inside an El Salvador prison housing some of the country's more fearsome criminals. ![]() Heavily-inked inmates crouch in a line with their hands on their heads in the chilling photos from the Centre for the Confinement of Terrorism. The top-security jail holds dangerous gang criminals after it was built for the purpose of combatting the country's rampant drug problem. More than 12,000 prisoners are squeezed into four-tier bunks in cells holding up to 80 people. Among them are senior members of two of the country's biggest cartels, MS-13 and Barrio 18. The grim jail is part of President Nayib Bukele's tough crackdown on the country's epidemic of drugs and gang violence, with more than 70,000 arrests made in less than two years, Mail Online reports. Many of the criminals sport tattoos of the numbers 13 or 18 showing their correct gang affiliation. Life inside the prison is brutal, with inmates forced to eat with their hands and only allowed to leave their cells for half an hour each day, with no access to natural light. Each cell contains two toilets, two washbasins, and 80 bunks that have no mattresses. No one is said to get any proper sleep or have any visitors in the all-white prison, which was toured by Salvadoran journalist Ruben Diez earlier this year for an inside scoop on life inside. Statistics released in El Salvador claim the number of homicides has plummeted by as much as 56.8% since the super-jail was opened. Speaking to Diez, the prison's director Belarmino Garcia said hope for the prisoners' rehabilitation was next to none, so many will die behind bars. “This is a maximum security regime,” he said. “There is no visiting time for them.” High-tech airport-style body scanners make it almost impossible for prisoners to smuggle weapons or drugs into the jail when they are admitted, and with no visitors allowed, there is little chance of anything being brought in from the outside. So tough were President Bukeles reforms on gang crime, that human rights legislation had to be scrapped to get them through in a move highly criticised by Human Rights Watch. After declaring what he called a “state of exception,” Bukele ordered a crackdown that resulted in the arrest of some 55,000 suspected gang members. |

TRUMP Wants to Send Criminals to El Salvadors HELL on Earth NOTORIOUS Jail Full of Killers
Trump agreed an unprecedented, extraordinary migratory agreement with El Salvadors President Nayib Bukele to send criminals of all nationalities, including Americans, to the countrys NOTORIOUS MEGA prisons MailOnline 7 FEB 2025 ![]() There has been many allegations of torture within the prison ![]() ![]() This week saw the US and El Salvador strike a groundbreaking deal to send criminals of any nationality to El Salvadors infamous mega prisons. Reports have confirmed the countrys President, Nayib Bukele, has made an unprecedented, extraordinary migratory agreement with the US, allowing Trump to transfer wrongdoers to the feared penitentiaries, described by some as hell on Earth. The US President hailed the new deal, asserting it will make both nations stronger, safer, and more prosperous One such fearsome facility is the Terrorism Confinement Centre, commonly referred to as Crecot, which stands ready to house deportees from the States. Its estimated that Crecot, known for housing roughened gangsters, drug lords, and murderers, holds a massive 20,000 inmates. Its been tagged the black hole of human rights, cost a hefty $100 million (80m) to construct, and is the largest prison in Latin America. El Salvadors iron-fisted President Bukele is pushing this pact with Trump as part of his fierce campaign against violent crime in the nations capital. Statistics show a striking drop in the murder rate previously an alarming 107 homicides per 100,000 people, the rate reportedly sat at just 7.8 per 100,000 in 2023, CNN had the chance to peek inside the confines of Crecot amidst growing concern over how prisoners were treated regarding their human rights. The news broadcaster noted the harsh conditions faced by inmates, with up to 80 men crammed into a single cell equipped only with bare metal bunks without pillows, sheets, or mattresses. ![]() Theres no visiting time, and no hope of release in the prison The prisoners attire is restricted to plain white shorts and t-shirts. Gang members are cooped up in their cells for 23 and a half hours a day, only allowed out chained up to stretch in the corridors. Many inmates at Crecot prison face life behind bars without parole. ![]() FELON Trump to Lock Up AMERICAN Criminals in El Salvadors Notorious Mega-Jails https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXAA8g3tFQo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzTp-GJQx3g .
