A convicted child killer has been rushed to hospital after being attacked in prison.

Aaron Campbell, 20, who murdered six-year-old schoolgirl Alesha MacPhail, was beaten on Wednesday in his cell at Polmont Young Offenders.

The attack left Campbell with his "front tooth through his lip", according to a source, as reported by The Sun.

His attacker - hailed as a hero by fellow inmates - had to be pulled off Campbell as he continued to brutally beat him.

Alesha’s great-grandad George Lochrane, 79, said in response to the attack: “I hope he’s in pain. I hope he’s suffering.
“The only thing I’m sorry about is that I didn’t get to do it myself.”

A prison source said: “His door was open and someone saw the opportunity and took it.

"He pushed Campbell onto his bed and started leathering him and got a good few shots in. Campbell wasn’t expecting it at all, he never said anything."

The source is alleged to have described Campbell's front tooth as 'sticking through his lip' and 'everyone in the prison happy' about the attack.

Campbell is normally kept separate from the other lags because of his notoriety and his sickening crime.

The attacker, the source says, may face a serious assault charge but is 'not bothered as it was worth it'.

Campbell snatched little Alesha from her bed on July 2, 2018, before raping and murdering her.

Before handing him a life sentence with a minimum term of 27 years, the judge presiding over Campbell's trial, Lord Matthews, said the then-teenager had committed "some of the most wicked and evil crimes this court has ever heard of in decades of dealing with depravity".

Lord Matthews described Campbell as a "cold, calculating, remorseless and dangerous individual" and "completely lacking in victim empathy”.

In 2019, Campbell successfully appealed his sentence, reducing the minimum term to 24 years. He will eligible for parole when he is 40.

Campbell is due to be moved to an adult prison when he turns 21 next year.
