Author Harriet Hicks was best known for penning murder mysteries and comedy crime capers, but it was her own 'disappearance' back in 2006 which proved to be the greatest mystery of all.

Cornwall-based Hicks wrote a number of crime-focused novels back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including Trouble in Topsham, Problems in Polperro, and Shooting in St Study.

But following the publication of her final book, she disappeared from the public eye altogether, never to be heard from again.

Very little is known about what happened to Hicks, and no records of her life have surfaced online in the years since. However, her presence can still be felt at her abandoned home, which remains filled with her personal possessions and unsold books

Nobody has heard from Hicks since 2006

Hicks' former home has become a point of interest for urban explorers, with traces of her intriguing life still very much visible among the dereliction and decay.

The most recent exploration - by an explorer known only as Urbanexboi - took place in October last year. Footage shows the 37-year-old Plymouth man traversing through the eerie property alongside other explorers.

A number of Hicks' unsold novels can be seen stacked in piles across several rooms, still in their shrink wrapping.

Urbanexboi said: "I first came across the location after seeing another explorer visit and we then spent hours researching the location before we finally made a visit.

"It was very strange knowing that she had vanished leaving everything behind including pallets of books in most rooms".

He continued: "She had also left precious family photos and research for her books including unpublished manuscripts and original artwork for her books.

"Some of the books were still sat in shrink wrapping and a quick look shows these books are popular online".

As reported by Cornwall Live back in October, Hicks was born in 1934, in Kingkerswell, Devon, and moved to Torquay when she was six years old.

She made a life for herself in Cornwall and stayed there up until 2006, after which point her whereabouts remain unknown.
