One cant be too careful these days, there are so many hackers and viruses around. Better to be safe and do the test, than to regret it later. :) |
re: WARNING-It Happened Even GOOGLE was Hit-Thousands had problems -the Net 1st July
Out of curiosity, I ran dee cee's method to look. I have my standard LAN IP numbers where they should be and in the range they should be, which are limited in scope and range for router connection. I have one tunnel connection to router in the IPv6 range.

re: WARNING-It Happened Even GOOGLE was Hit-Thousands had problems -the Net 1st July
What's up with the FBI? I don't see how is this related to any external organizations.

re: WARNING-It Happened Even GOOGLE was Hit-Thousands had problems -the Net 1st July
For those of you that do not have those OS recommended by dee cee and are nervous to use the link in the first post to check if your PC is clean, I suggest you contact your ISP for advice.
This site cannot be help responsible if any of you take a chance and decide not to make any checks. :) Our staff member, The Ethereal Being, just wanted to help by posting this warning, Im sure he would never recommend to other folk a site to check if members PCs were clean, if it were not safe. This warning is all over the internet and Im sure the "FBI" do not have time to check the millions of IPs and info on people that use that link to check. :thanks: |
WARNING Many Thousands Wont Get onto the Net July 1st

I will explain a fuller explanation of what caused this warning to go out in my next post. & Here is an explanation of who those in the link provided in post 1 are; Quote:
The most important thing is to ensure our members and their PCs are safe and virus free. :) |
re: WARNING-It Happened Even GOOGLE was Hit-Thousands had problems -the Net 1st July
A Fuller Explanation;
For computer users, a few mouse clicks could mean the difference between staying online and losing Internet connections this July. Unknown to most of them, their problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of infected computers around the world. In a highly unusual response, the FBI set up a safety net months ago for US users, using government computers to prevent Internet disruptions for those infected users. But that system is now shut down. After July 9, infected users won't be able to connect to the Internet. Most victims don't even know their computers have been infected, although the malicious software probably has slowed their web surfing and disabled their antivirus software, making their machines more vulnerable to other problems. There have already been some arrests and on the night of the arrests, agencies brought in Paul Vixie, chairman and founder of Internet Systems Consortium, to install two Internet servers to take the place of the truckload of impounded rogue servers that infected computers were using. Those authorities planned to keep their servers online until March, giving everyone opportunity to clean their computers. But it wasn't enough time. A federal judge in New York extended the deadline until July, and said, "the full court press is on to get people to address this problem." And it's up to computer users to check their PCs. This is what happened: Hackers infected a network of probably more than 570,000 computers worldwide. They took advantage of vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows operating system to install malicious software on the victim computers. This turned off antivirus updates and changed the way the computers reconcile website addresses behind the scenes on the Internet's domain name system. The DNS system is a network of servers that translates a web address — such as - ap.org — into the numerical addresses that computers use. Victim computers were reprogrammed to use rogue DNS servers owned by the attackers. This allowed the attackers to redirect computers to fraudulent versions of any website. The hackers earned profits from advertisements that appeared on websites that victims were tricked into visiting. The scam netted the hackers at least $14 million. It also made thousands of computers reliant on the rogue servers for their Internet browsing. The number of victims is hard to pinpoint, but at least 568,000 unique Internet addresses were using the rogue servers. Five months later, FBI estimates that the number is down to at least 360,000. The US has the most, about 85,000, federal authorities said. Other countries with more than 20,000 each include Italy, India, England and Germany. Smaller numbers are online in Spain, France, Canada, China and Mexico. Vixie said most of the victims are probably individual home users, rather than corporations that have technology staffs who routinely check the computers. END Hope this helps! :) |
re: WARNING-It Happened Even GOOGLE was Hit-Thousands had problems -the Net 1st July
Its amazing since I reported this, so many browsers, AVs and espec MS, have issued security updates.....
ask yourselves why. Even MS poo pooed the warnings about the BIG "worm1" years ago, and boy did they learn, after it grew to "worm2" and then "worm3", only then did they decide to issue warnings and security updates. My advice would be not to TRUST your ISProviders and ask them, as some idiots have advised you to do. They are only interested in your $$$. Ask your AV & Net security companies, but PLEASE invest in a PRO version with them, cos that way you will get the best advice, and that small amount of money you pay to go PRO, will be worth it in the long run. Because even if this particular group of evil hackers dont win this time,,,,others may copy and cause harm in the future. This is Ladybbird giving you this sound advice and I earn no $$$ by the good advice I have always given to the members of this site, especially the nearly 3 months of investigations I have done and posted the results on,, on the "new File Hosts". It simply is good sensible advice and with the best intentions ....just in case........ ;) |

re: WARNING-It Happened Even GOOGLE was Hit-Thousands had problems -the Net 1st July
It now 3.55am, and I am still awake, making sure this site was safe,, just in case... but in the last hour or so, not only our site's main server, but so many other servers were hit too, but one of Google's CEO's Senior Executives, Sarah, called me on skype to thank me for my warnings that I gave months ago, and apologised to me for ignoring my warnings months before.
It happened.. Google alone was hit in one hour by 45 attacks. This site's Server was hit too, but this site is protected with so much back up, that I knew immediately something was not right,,and called our server to warn him. Hope you, all our members didnt experience any probs. It was brief, but very harsh indeed... . |
Re: WARNING-It Happened Even GOOGLE was Hit-Thousands had problems -the Net 1st July
This was not the only issue to be reported last night. Not to do with the DNS Changer and DDoS attacks but dealing with the leap second this month that was added at midnight, June 30ᵗʰ.
The last time this happened, places like Reddit and Slashdot experienced crashes because of a kernel bug. This mainly effected Linux kernel distributions earlier than version 2.6.29. It also effected switches, load balancers, spam filters, email gateways, and NAS devices. Code:
http://serverfault.com/questions/403732/anyone-else-experiencing-high-rates-of-linux-server-crashes-during-a-leap-second So all this hit at around the same time. |
