Microsoft drops Aero Glass from Windows 8
Microsoft has shown off another large change to the upcoming Windows 8's desktop user interface.
The company has removed the popular Aero Glass UI that was first shown off with Vista and then in Windows 7. By dropping Aero, Windows 8 will have visual changes including "flattening surfaces, removing reflections, and scaling back distracting gradients." In response to questions about whether it will be tough for users to learn the new OS, which has some stark changes from past OS, the company does not seem to be worried: "We will help people get off on the right foot and we have confidence that people will quickly find the new paradigms to be second-nature." Windows 8 Release Preview launches next month and the final release of the OS is expected to launch in late October.

Re: Microsoft drops Aero Glass from Windows 8
I never understood why M$ made Aero in the first place. It jacked up the computer requirements to at the time unheard of levels just to display Vista. Someone got in on the planning board that didn't understand to most, the computer is a tool. That means eye candy comes second if at all.
M$ went to the requirement of
Manufacturers and M$ are playing games with you on requirements. Hardware is an expense when making computers and selling them has always had razor thin margins. You only need 64 megs of vid ram to display Vista on it's lowest requirement. The trick is, higher resolutions require more. You really need 256 vid RAM if you are running a dedicated video card. Most computers come with only board Vid circuits, not dedicated cards. That means with a motherboard vid display using system RAM you need even more, 512 megs of Vid RAM. Remember these are the bare minimums needed, not what will work best. |
