British Police Officer 23, Raped at Knifepoint in Paris at Bottom of Eiffel Tower

Authorities in France have launched an investigation after a British police officer claimed she was raped by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France - a man has since been arrested

A British police officer has claimed she was held at knifepoint and raped under the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Monday.

The woman, aged 23, alerted French police and told them she was attacked by a man at the Champ-de-Mars just before midnight that evening.

The victim said he took out the knife as she tried to reject his advances. He fled the scene but was later found by the police. Authorities arrested a 35-year-old man around an hour after the victim reported the crime. According to Le Parisien, the woman was a tourist who was staying overnight with a friend. The attacker reportedly targeted her as she went behind a bush to go to the toilet.

She was only seperated from her pal for a few moments when the suspect brandished the weapon and allegedly carried out the attack. She is said to have called emergency services immediately. An anti-crime squad rushed to the scene as firefighters took care of the victim. Officers based at the 7th police station arrested the 35-year-old and put him in custody overnight. The investigation is ongoing.

It comes as police have been seen patrolling the area in recent days after a knife incident took place on Friday, October 13. Chechen refugee, Mohammed, 20, stabbed a teacher to death and injured two others at a school in Arras. The teacher was later named as Dominique Bernard, 57. President Macron previously commented on the incident and said:

“The teacher who was killed intervened first. He undoubtedly saved many lives. His seriously injured colleague and the staff who were also seriously injured showed the same courage. But so did the headteacher and many others in that moment. I am here to show the nation’s support. To say that we are united and that we are standing firm … The choice has been made not to give in to terror, not to allow anything to divide us.”

Authorities launched its highest state of alert following the deadly attack and deployed an extra 7,000 troops to keep an eye on key areas.
