Oh Crap! Wizz Air Pilot Punched by Passenger During Mass Brawl

Wizz Air Dumps Passengers 200 Miles From Destination and Says Find Your Own Way Home

A Wizz Air flight from Tel Aviv which was supposed to land in London Gatwick was diverted to Doncaster - and many had to fork out hundreds to get taxis back home

Daily Mirror 18 APR 2022

Frustrated Wizz Air passengers were "dumped" 200 miles from their destination and say they were told to find their own way home.

Travellers flying back from Tel Aviv had to fork out hundreds of pounds to get taxis home after they were left stranded "in the middle of the night".

The flight to London Gatwick, which was due to leave at 9.25pm, was delayed and didn't end up leaving until after midnight, travellers told the Mirror.

As a result, the airline missed their slot to land at Gatwick and passengers were informed midway through the flight they would be diverted to Luton.

Asya shared a photo of her little toddler on the flight

But with no slots available at Luton either they ended up landing in Doncaster with no alternative transport arranged, 'no Wizz Air staff to be seen' and nothing 'but a bottle of water'.

Asya, who was travelling with her toddler, told The Mirror: "It's been awful. I've never had an experience like this.

"I don't understand how an airline can leave people in the middle of the night and not provide them with anything other than a bottle of water.

"We landed at about 3.15am at Doncaster but were supposed to land at 1am at Gatwick.

"They originally told us we were going to be diverted to Luton because there were no spaces at Gatwick - but Luton was full and there were no ground handling staff available so they said we would go to Doncaster but organise coaches to take us to Gatwick."

But Asya, who asked only to be referred to by her first name, claims when they landed and got their baggage, it became evident there were no coaches.

She said they were advised to get taxis or trains and then claim compensation back from the airline.

Asya, who was travelling with her one-year-old, said there was no way she could get a train at that time of night on her own with her child so was forced to get a taxi back to her south east London home - costing her £450.

She is worried about how easy it will be to claim the money back.

"They [Wizz Air] didn't provide us with anything, they were so unprepared."

A Wizz Air spokesperson told Asya on Twitter : "Hi Asya! Please keep your invoices and attach them to the claim you should submit via the following link https://fal.cn/3nQWs

"Our colleagues will investigate and inform you accordingly. We apologize for the inconvenience. And still hoping to count you among our passengers."

Shachaf Karvat, from Epsom in Surrey, also spoke to the Mirror about the "chaotic" journey.

He said: "As soon as we landed in Doncaster they closed the doors and disappeared basically. We never saw the crew again, there was no one from Wizz Air.

"Airport security tried to help us and they managed to get us some water and biscuits. All the shops were closed and there was just one taxi waiting.

"No one expected 200 passengers in the middle of the night would land in Doncaster.

"There were families with babies and young children and people with connecting flights who mixed their connection."

Shachaf said he ended up sharing a taxi home which was on £260 when it dropped him off.

Angry Re: Wizz Air Pilot Punched by Passenger During Mass Brawl

Pilot Punched by Brit Passenger During Mass Brawl on Wizz Air Flight From UK

Two men, thought to be from Bermondsey, south London, were at the centre of a brawl on a flight from Gatwick to Crete which led to the pilot being punched when he tried to break it up

Daily Mirror 14 MAY 2022

A Brit passenger allegedly punched a Wizz Air pilot who came to break up a brawl as chaos broke out when a flight from Gatwick arrived in Crete.

The pilot was trying to calm down a man who had been told he was going to be taken away by police due to his bad behaviour on board, when he was hit, on Tuesday evening.

Two men, thought to be in their 30s and from Bermondsey, south London, had been acting aggressively on the flight and bragging how much they had drunk, reported the Daily Star.

And the situation boiled over when one of the passengers was told he was going to be escorted off the flight.

After the pilot attempted to calm the man down, he and his friends set upon him.

The incident took place on a flight from Gatwick to Crete

Dramatic video footage shows the moment two thugs set upon the pilot while other passengers, including children, scream in fright.

Another passenger, a woman, aged 37, told how punches were being thrown.

“It was complete and utter chaos," she told The Sun.

“It kicked off and he was just swinging punches as a group of guys tried to restrain him.

Two passengers had been causing trouble on the flight, it is alleged

“The pilot came out and the guy hit him. He seemed okay but was understandably pretty shaken up. It was disgraceful."

Another eyewitness claimed that the men had been abusive to everyone on board and had boasted of drinking since 10am before they began smoking on the flight.

A Wizz Air spokesman reportedly said: “On Wizz Air flight W95741 from Gatwick - Chania, a passenger became unruly.

"The cabin crew handled the situation as they are trained to do and reported the incident to the respective authorities, who arrested the passenger on arrival.

Trouble broke out when a passenger was told that he was going to be spoken to by police, it is claimed

"Wizz Air confirms that crew were asked to go to the airport police station to file the case, by which point the crew had legally reached their duty time limitation, and needed time to rest before the return flight to Gatwick.

"Unfortunately, this meant that flight W95742 from Chania – Gatwick had to be rescheduled. The flight departed at 16:10 local time.

"Wizz Air sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused, but the safety of passengers and crew is the airline’s number one priority.”
