This is the man *charged with one of Britain’s longest-unsolved double killings.
Handcuffed David Fuller, 66, appeared at court Saturday morning accused of carrying out the notorious “bedsit murders” of two young women in 1987.
Fuller, of Heathfield, East Sussex, did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
Medway magistrates *remanded him in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday.
He is charged with murdering Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pierce, 20, both from Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
They were beaten and strangled. Shop manager Ms Knell was found dead at her flat in June 1987.
She had left work at about 5pm the previous day and went home after going to the bank.
After an evening at her boyfriend’s house, he dropped her home at 11pm and kissed her goodbye on the doorstep.
He went round the following day, after her boss said she had not turned up for work that morning, and found her battered body.
Police believe Ms Pierce was killed that November.
Her naked body was found in a field three weeks later by a farm worker at Romney Marsh, 40 miles away.
The young women lived a mile apart in Tunbridge Wells.

Police arrested Fuller on Thursday.
Cold case cops have scoured his home and on Saturday three police units remained outside the £300,000 semi.
One neighbour said: “We only met him a couple of times – he knocked on our door for a parcel.”
Wendy’s father Bill, a retired bus driver, died three years ago after getting cancer.
He once said: “If he’s not been found by the time I go, she’ll tell me who it was.
