Collier County Sheriff’s Office is on the hunt for Roberto Lopez

A toddler is fighting for her life after being raped by a man who has now gone on the run, according to police.

Roberto Lopez is wanted on a charge of sexual battery on a victim under 12 after raping a two-year-old girl, police deputies have said.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office in Florida made a public appeal urging people to get in contact regarding the 40-year-old suspect's whereabouts.

“We need your help in locating this animal," a police department spokesman said.

"He is wanted by the Collier County Sheriff's Office for the brutal rape of a two year old girl.

"This innocent little girl is in critical condition from the rape.

"If you know his location or have any information of his possible location, please call the Hendry County Sheriff's office.

"This guy is pure evil and does not need to be on our streets. Also, please share this so we can reach as many people as we can.”

Mr Lopez is known to hang around in local bars and is normally picked up for work at Camp Rojo.

The little girl he is accused of assaulting is in a critical condition.

Deputies have not said how the suspect came in contact with the girl.
