Donald Trump was rushed off stage by Secret Service agents during his Pennsylvania rally after he dropped to the ground amid the sound of banging and screaming.


Trump was speaking at his final rally before the Republican National Convention when he was told to get down by his Secret Service agents.

Donald Trump was safe, the U.S. Secret Service and his campaign said on Saturday after multiple shots rang out at a rally by the Republican presidential candidate in Pennsylvania as video showed Trump grimacing and raising a hand to his right ear.

The former president had just started his speech when gunshots erupted and Trump and other rally attendees hit the deck. Secret Service agents swarmed around him and live video showed blood on the right side of Trump's face and ear.

Trump repeatedly raised his fist in the air, with an American flag visible behind him, as security ushered him away.

"The Secret Service has implemented protective measur
es and the former president is safe," a spokesperson for the agency said on X after what it called an incident. "This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available."

CNN reported that Trump was injured, but gave no other details. It was not clear how or what injuries he may have sustained.
One person is believed to be dead, Pittsburgh ABC affiliate WTAE reported, citing Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldfinger

One witness, Ron Moose, said he heard what sounded like four shots, describing the sound as "pop, pop, pop."

Trump's campaign spokesperson said Trump was fine and that he was being checked out at a local medical facility.

"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow," spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement.

The venue was abandoned with chairs knocked over and yellow police tape around the stage. A helicopter flew above and law enforcement officers walked through the area, the video feed showed.

Armed law enforcement officers were also seen on a roof near the stage where Trump was standing.

Trump is due to receive the Republican nomination formally at the Republican National Convention that kicks off in Milwaukee on Monday.

Trump, who served as president from 2017-2021, easily bested his rivals for the Republican nomination early in the campaign and has largely unified around him the party that had briefly wavered in support after his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, attempting to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

The FBI later named Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, PA as the “subject involved” in the shooting.

Trump’s team and the Secret Service confirmed that he was “fine” and being checked at a local medical facility.

Trump later posted a statement on Truth Social, saying he was hit by a “bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear”.



The Butler county district attorney confirmed that the suspected shooter and one rally attendee were dead. One person at the rally was in serious condition. The Secret Service later said two people were critically injured.

The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination.

The Secret Service shared more details on the shooter’s position and confirmed that the shooter was killed by the Secret Service. ABC News reported that law enforcement officials the suspect was perched on a rooftop and used an AR-style rifle.


The president, Joe Biden, said “everybody must condemn political violence” in a speech shortly after the shooting. The White House later said the president and Trump had spoken. Biden is traveling back to the White House.

On Sunday morning, less than 24 hours after a Pennsylvania man attempted to assassinate Donald Trump, CNN host Kasie Hunt had to calm her panel down after a conservative guest tried to blame President Joe Biden for the shooting.



A very emotional Bryan Lanza, an advisor to Donald Trump's 2016 campaign, was deploring the state of affairs that he believes led to the shooting, when he started to suggest Democrats are to blame for increased tensions.

"Listen, it's all sides. I mean, just a couple of days ago, we heard President Biden in a conference call with his donors saying we need to put a target on president Trump, or that he was going to put the target and president Trump," Lanza stated. "Listen, Sarah Palin was wrong when Gabby Giffords was, an assassination attempt on her by putting the target of her and a bunch of other Democrats on the list and that sort of triggered somebody.

President Biden was wrong talking about that language. The Washington Post is wrong, we're all guilty of this language. I'm guilty of that myself. I'm ashamed of it. You know, I'm shaking, I had to explain to my six-year-old son what an assassination attempt is."

"I had to explain that there are some people who use language and there are some people who are triggered whether it's the far-right or the progressive left that think the violence is the answer to where we are at this particular state," he continued. "Violence isn't the answer.

I mean, I come from a rough neighborhood — violence only escalates. Like we need an off-ramp for this, hopefully last night was the off-ramp. So we'll see what the convention brings up, but I think you're going to see a very, very defiant convention."

"The guy, [Trump] was just, you know, he's been targeted," he added. "We've been talking about this, the leftists fantasizing assassinations. You've got a major donor from the Democratic Party, if not the largest donor Democratic Party saying, he proudly be a martyr taking out Donald Trump."

That led former Hillary Clinton spokesperson Karen Finney to interrupt with, "Let's be sure we be very fair about that."

"The language was very very — listen, there was an assassination attempt," Lanza shot back.

At that point, CNN host Hunt put up her hands and cautioned, " I would like to keep this as non-partisan as possible, okay? So we are going to stay in the realm of deploring the violence as you have."
