John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy’s granddaughter Tatiana Schlossberg joined the long line of elegant Kennedy weddings this weekend marrying at her family’s home on Martha's Vineyard. The 27-year-old former reporter with the New York Times married George Moran from Greenwich, Connecticut who she met while they were both studying at Yale.

Schlossberg is the middle child of JFK’s only living child Caroline Kennedy, who served three years as US ambassador to Japan until January 2017, and Edwin Schlossberg, the founder of ESI Design, an interactive design firm in New York.

She married 28-year-old Moran, a fourth-year medical student in Columbia, on September 9, almost 64 years to the day that her Kennedy grandparents themselves wed in what was one of the weddings of the century.

Schlossberg’s own nuptials were a more low-key private affair, however, officiated over by Deval L. Patrick, the former governor of Massachusetts, as she became the first of Kennedy’s grandchildren to say “I do”.

The bride has stayed out of the public eye for most of her life, covering climate change and the environment for the New York Times until she left the newspaper earlier this year. One of her latest pieces focused on President Donald Trump‘s rollbacks on environmental rules and regulations for businesses.

It was close to the 64th wedding anniversary of her grandparents JFK and Jackie Kennedy, whose wedding in Rhode Island on 12 September, 1953, was dubbed as more of a coronation than a wedding, taking place at the height of the Camelot era.

“600 diplomats, senators, social figures crowded into St. Mary’s Church to hear the Archbishop of Boston perform the rites and read a special blessing from the pope,” LIFE magazine reported of the wedding.

“Outside, 2,000 society fans, some come to Newport by chartered bus, cheered the guests and the newlyweds as they left the church. There were 900 guests at the reception and it took Senator and Mrs. Kennedy two hours to shake their hands.”

Schlossberg’s own wedding was more like the private affair enjoyed by her mother Caroline, however, who wed Edwin Schlossberg in a small ceremony in a Catholic church in Centerville, Massachusetts on 16 July, 1986, before the party retreated to the Kennedy compound at Hyannis Port for a private reception.

Caroline’s brother, John F. Kennedy Jnr, who was best man at her wedding, also opted for a private affair when he married in 1996.
