Three of Vladimir Putins' Secret Agents Die of Food Spiked With Arsenic and Rat Poison

FSB Officers have been allegedly "poisoned by partisans" after ordering restaurant takeaway not long after they launched an investigation into further suspicious killings

BBC 23 NOV 2023

Exiled Melitopol mayor Ivan Fedorov allegedly confirmed the deaths

Three Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officers were killed in occupied Ukraine after a food delivery was spiked with arsenic and rat poison, reports say.

A fourth security service operative is said to be in intensive care.

The city’s mayor in exile claimed the poisoning was the work of Ukrainian underground "resistance forces" in Melitopol. There has been as yet no confirmation from Russian officials about the alleged assassination of the agents from the FSB, once headed by dictator Vladimir Putin.
Telegram channel Kremlevskaya Tabakerka reported: "The restaurant where the food and alcohol were delivered was searched, and no traces of poisons were found.

At the same time, the courier who delivered the food and alcohol disappeared without a trace."

Ivan Fedorov speaking about the incident

The channel is controversial but the poisoning claim was later reported in Ukraine by the Kyiv Post newspaper and apparently confirmed by Mayor Ivan Fedorov. "They ordered food from a local cafe and after they were able to consume this food, they all got poisoned and some of them even died", said Fedorov on the Ukrainian TV channel United News.

It continued: "They will definitely not be able to fight against our state anymore. It is interesting that they cannot find the courier who delivered the food, but this is the active resistance that continues in Melitopol after almost two years of occupation."

The mayor said: "The elimination of the enemy is carried out not only by explosions, missile strikes, but also by resistance forces. For example, the other day there was another batch of eliminated enemies, namely poisoned enemies, which was even reported by enemy Telegram channels."

The Telegram channel had claimed that two of the three dead FSB operatives had launched an investigation into an alleged grave of Russian Black Sea Fleet sailors recently found in Melitopol.

On November 15, Kremlevskaya Tabakerka said a mysterious grave was found in a cemetery in Melitopol where 17 sailors of the Russian Black Sea Fleet were secretly buried.

It’s unclear how the bodies of the 17 sailors, who logically should have been in Crimea, ended up all the way in Melitopol. It’s also unclear whether the dead were sailors or were just wearing the uniform.

Ukrainian Spy Chiefs' Wife 30, Poisoned With Metals in Assassination Attempt

Marianna Budanovas' health has been deteriorating since she was poisoned with heavy metals. The 30-year-old woman is now hospitalised

BBC 30 NOV 2023

Maj. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov has led operations to attack Russia with missiles

The wife of Ukraine's military intelligence chief is recovering after an alleged assassination attempt, according to reports.

Marianna Budanova, 30, was “poisoned with heavy metals” and is hospitalised. This followed a “prolonged deterioration of her health”, reported Babel news outlet citing intelligence sources.

She is the wife of highly respected Lt-Gen Kyrylo Budanov, 37, who has led operations to attack Russia with missiles and both aerial and sea drones during the 22-month conflict. "The course of treatment is now being completed, and then there will be a check-up by the doctors," said an intelligence source.

The exact nature of the poisoning - for which Russia is suspected - was not identified. "These substances are not used in any way in everyday life or military affairs. Their presence may indicate a purposeful attempt to poison a specific person."

Sources confirmed that attempts were also made on Kyrylo Budanov before and after the full-scale invasion. Respected by Western intelligence agencies, he has been identified as one of Russia’s priority targets in the conflict.* An investigation is being conducted into “the alleged attempt to kill the wife of the head of the [Ukrainian military intelligence agency”. Marianna is a psychologist by training who has acted as an aide to Kyiv mayor Vitalii Klychko.

She has told how she has lived with her husband at his work since the war started. She previously told Elle Ukraine: “On the evening of February 23 [2022], my husband told me that a full-scale invasion would begin at 5:00 am.

“We got ready and went to his work, and since then we have not been at home. I can’t say that we prepared in any special way: documents, phones, a set of clothes for the first time. With that we left. By evening, I oversaw the preparation of the first special forces groups that were supposed to move to Hostomel, and the distribution of weapons and ammunition.

Everyone was waiting, at midnight the guys were eating hamburgers from McDonald's. And they were ready for battle.” She refused to leave Ukraine and has remained by his side, she said. “I’ll be honest - I had no fear or panic,” she said.

Ms Budanova with her husband, who is the chief of Ukraine’s military intelligence

“As the wife of a military man who was wounded three times (two moderate wounds and one serious), I was mentally prepared for any scenario. Therefore, I acted clearly and confidently: I did what I was told to do, everyone acted as a single team and a single whole.

“You have to understand that there was almost no peacetime as such for my family. A few months after I met my future husband, dramatic events began to unfold on the Maidan [the 2014 Ukrainian revolution].

Then, as you know, everything went on and on: the annexation of Crimea, the fighting in Donbas. I'm used to living in a constant state of preparation and anticipation. Therefore, the first days of the invasion did not come as a shock to me.

“This is what Carl von Clausewitz called the fog of war - when it is felt even before it begins.” She spoke of one missile attack during the war. “I took off her shoes and lay down on the sofa opposite the window,” she said. "And a few minutes later I hear a sound that cannot be confused with anything - the sound of a rocket arriving. I'm barefoot, with boots in one hand and documents in the other.

“This may seem strange, but the first thought that flashed through my head was: I need to cover my face so that if I die, at least with my face uncut. I was ready for anything, but I didn’t expect that there would be thick grey dust in the air, like fog. It immediately turns your eyes red and gives off a strong pungent odour.

I remembered that I needed to breathe through my nose so that small particles from the glass did not get into the trachea. At that moment I ran out to the door, Kyrylo ran towards me.”

Cool re: Putins' WRATH; HELL on Earth Prison-Persecution & DEATH of Alexei Navalny

Pro-Putin Russian Senator Vladimir Lebedev Found Dead in 'Terrible Tragedy'

Vladimir Lebedev - who was a staunch supporter of Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine - was also connected to Lukoil - a company which has lost several of its key leaders in mysterious circumstances during the conflict

BBC 1 DEC 2023

Vladimir Lebedev, who has close ties to the Kremlin, has been found dead following a “heart attack”

A Russian senator with close links to the Kremlin has died suddenly aged 60. Lebedev was a close chum and hunting partner of Sergei Kiriyenko (centre), who was a former prime minister and closely tied to Vladimir Putin

War-backer Vladimir Lebedev had earlier connections to energy giant Lukoil, a company dogged by unexplained or untimely deaths during the war with Ukraine. He had close business ties to Vladimir Nekrasov, 66, chairman of the Lukoil board of directors, who died “suddenly” last month.

Lebedev was also a longstanding friend and hunting partner of Vladimir Putin’s closest Kremlin aide, Sergei Kiriyenko, 61, a former Russian prime minister and the dictator’s deputy chief of staff. On one trip a picture shows how they had slaughtered a brown bear.

The initial cause of Lebedev's death was announced as a “heart attack”. No further details were given. But colleagues indicated he had been healthy and his death came as a “deep shock”. The governor of Nizhny Novgorod region - which Lebedev represented in the senate, or Federation Council - Gleb Nikitin said: “All of us who knew him well and were friends with him were shocked...a terrible tragedy.”

Lebedev had been sanctioned by Britain, the EU and US for his ardent support for Putin’s war against Ukraine.

Lebedev and Kiriyenko were part of a group of devoted Young Communists who came into positions of power after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Earlier this week, a prominent banker Nikolay Vasyov, 42, senior vice president of state-owned Sberbank, died of a “heart attack”. Lebedev earlier held senior management positions in subsidiaries of Lukoil and was close to Vladimir Nekrasov, 66, chairman of the Lukoil board of directors, who last month died “suddenly” of “acute heart failure”.

Nekrasov had appointed him to serve alongside him on the board of Lukoil subsidiary TGC-8. There has been a spate of mysterious Russian deaths - especially linked to the energy and banking sectors - since the war started.

Lukoil tycoon Ravil Maganov, 67, fell from a window of Moscow’s elite Central Clinical Hospital, also known as the Kremlin clinic, in September last year.

There were suspicions of murder but officially Maganov had been in hospital for a longstanding heart problem and fell from a sixth floor window, dying on the spot. On the same morning, Putin - who had earlier decorated Maganov with a top honour - swept into the hospital to pay his final respects to Mikhail Gorbachev, the last Soviet leader, who had died the same week.

Billionaire Alexander Subbotin, 43, also linked to energy giant Lukoil where he was a top manager, was found dead in May 2022 after “taking advice from shamans”. One theory is that Subbotin - who also owned a shipping company - was poisoned by toad venom triggering a heart attack.

Lukoil initially appeared less than loyal to Putin when the war started, demanding negotiations to end the fighting. One week into the fighting, the company’s board including both Nekrasov and Maganov issued a statement on Putin’s invasion which “expresses its concern over the ongoing tragic events in Ukraine and its deepest sympathy to all those affected by this tragedy.

“We are in favour of an early cessation of the armed conflict and fully support its resolution through the negotiation process and diplomatic means.” Nakrasov - who had been honoured by former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev - had taken over from Maganov as chairman.

Russian War Journalist, 39 Found Dead on a Roadside After Vowing to Release Details of Gigantic Corruption in Latest Mysterious Media-Linked Fatality....

Putin 'Ally' Mysteriously Dies 'Falling' From House Window

Daily Mail 10 JAN 2024

Alexander Rybin had recently visited Mariupol, a city in Ukraine invaded by Russia in 2022

A Russian war journalist has been found dead after vowing to release new details of 'gigantic corruption' in the Vladimir Putin-invaded Ukrainian city Mariupol.

The body of Alexander Rybin, 39, was discovered by a roadside near Shakhty, in Russia's Rostov region, on Saturday.

He is the latest in a series of mysterious media-linked deaths amid the Russian President's war against Ukraine.

Rybin died after a visit to occupied Mariupol in which his on-air report criticised the Putin regime for its slowness in rebuilding the war-blitzed city which the dictator sees as a holiday location for Russians on the Azov Sea.

The reporter - who had backed Putin's annexation of the Donbas region of Ukraine - revealed an influx of immigrants to undertake the reconstruction and huge money pumped in from Russia.

The body of Alexander Rybin, 39, was discovered by a roadside near Shakhty, in Russia 's Rostov region, on January 6, after he spoke out about 'corruption' in Mariupol, a city in eastern Ukraine which was captured by Russian forces in the early months of Putin's 2022 invasion

But he slammed the 'gigantic corruption', and vowed to reveal more details in a live broadcast on left wing online outlet Rabkor after returning to Moscow.

He never got back to the capital.

Instead, he was found dead on a highway near the city of Shakhty, which sits around 20 miles from the Ukrainian border and 130 miles from Mariupol.

Once home to more than 400,000 people, Mariupol was all but raised to the ground by Russia's forces who lay siege to it in the early months of Putin's 2022 invasion.

The city was fully captured by Moscow's forces on May 20, 2022 when the last Ukrainian troops - who had hunkered down in the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works - surrendered to the invading army.

It was the site of a number of shocking incidents in the early days of the war, including the Russian bombing of a maternity hospital and a theatre sheltering hundreds of civilians. Overall, thousands are thought to have been killed.

To this day, the city is a ruin of its former self, with Ukraine estimating around 100,000 people live in its 'apocalyptic' remains, as described by the Red Cross.

Rybin visited Mariupol at the end of last year, reporting from the city.

Officially, his cause of death was given as 'cardiomyopathy' following an autopsy, according to the Russian state media.

His bank cards and valuables had not been removed.

Rybin had fought in invaded Luhansk for pro-Putin forces between 2014 and 2015 but became disillusioned with the so-called 'Russian Spring'.

She and her ex-husband - whose body was also found at the scene - had died from 'poisoning', said law enforcement

Last month Ilya Kyva, 46, once a party leader in the Kyiv parliament, was found 'covered in blood' in a suspected assassination near Moscow by Ukrainian secret services.

Putin is Now So Paranoid About Security That His National Guard is FIVE Times The Size of British Army

& EVEN More Paranoid About His Ruinous Economy, That He's Trying to Turn Gulag Camps Into Russian holiday Hotspots...

The Russian government has decided to invest in making the Far East, known for its Stalin-era Gulag prison camps, a holiday hotspot with a new 2,000 room resort being built

In a bid to bolster his ruinous economy, Russian President Vladimir Putin is opening the home of his gulag camps into tourist package holidays.

Since the brute invaded Ukraine in 2022, visa restrictions and closed European airspace have slimmed down the chance for Russians to travel abroad for holidays. Now the government has decided to invest in making the Far East, known for its Stalin-era Gulag prison camps, a new holiday hotspot.

The Times reports that a 2,000-room resort dubbed the Three Volcanoes will be built and 170 newly safety-certified hiking routes have been mapped out. Those wishing to visit from the capital Moscow can now board one of the new routes with Aeroflot. A flight of eight and a half hours to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is just 15,000 roubles (£130).

Authorities are trying to promote the region as the perfect place for those seeking "active, adventure-filled tourism amidst wild nature." But it was just in October that Russians were told they would be sent to the region as a punishment if they said they backed Ukraine in the war. Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the Duma, said:

"Those who left the country and committed despicable acts, wishing victory to the bloody Nazi Kyiv regime, should realise that no one is waiting for them here - but if they do come back, then Magadan will be provided for them."

Magadan is a city in the far north, synonymous with the Gulag. Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the author of "The Gulag Archipelago", described this area as "the pole of cold and cruelty."

The Times notes that previous attempts to develop the Far East by Mikhail Gorbachev, Boris Yeltsin and Dmitry Medvedev all failed. Dr Natasha Kuhrt, senior lecturer in international peace and security at King’s College London, told the paper that "little has been achieved."

Airport terminal at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky City

An article last month in the state-run news agency TASS declared the 2023-24 ski season in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Region open. An official told the publication: "This year, outdoor enthusiasts will be able to enjoy seven ski slopes and Kamchatka’s only chairlift." The article boasted about nine ski centres in the region, with 27 ski trails totalling about 380 kilometres.

In another sign of promoting the area, a recent state-run competition asked young Russians to document their travels in the Far East on film for a chance to win a whopping prize of three million roubles (£26,000).

The winner, from the North Korean border region of Primorsky Krai, completed a 17-day solo kayak in the bay around Vladivostok, facing two storms and constant winds. The area’s first five-star hotel is due to open this year in Petropavlovsk, the capital city of the remote Kamchatka region.

Oh Crap! Re: BEWARE Putins' Wrath -Turns OFF Heat in -55C Russian Jails to FORCE Inmates to Fi

Putin Turns OFF Heating in -55C Russian Jails to FORCE Inmates to Fight in Ukraine

The Russian president reportedly wants to boost his army with mass murderers and other dangerous criminals - making jail conditions even harsher to force them into fighting

Daily Mail 16 JAN 2024

It means inmates will be forced to freeze in unbrearable temperatures

Vladimir Putin has ordered prisons to turn off their heating despite sub zero temperatures in Russia – in an attempt to force inmates to fight on the frontline in Ukraine, it has been reported.

It means prisoners will be forced to freeze in unbrearable temperatures, with some parts of Russia recording temperatures as low as -55C, or take the option of signing up for battle. The Kremlin leader is reportedly planning to replenish his army with mass murderers, killers and other dangerous criminals and believes turning off the heating in prisons will leave inmates no choice but to head for Ukraine.

Olga Romanova, director of Russia Behind Bars human rights NGO, said the order was made in an effort to force convicts to go to war. She told German newspaper BILD: "For this reason, they simply turned off the heating at sub-zero temperatures. The conditions in prisons should become unbearable so that the men there go to Ukraine. The prisoners are simply sent en masse to the Ukrainian defence line and are sacrificed in the process."

According to the latest estimates, more than 100,000 inmates have been deployed already in Ukraine - including serial killer Denis Aleksandrovich Zubov who was sentenced to 21 years in a maximum-security jail in 2017 after murdering three people over a nine-month period

Zubov was included in a group of convicts who joined Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner mercenary group fighting in the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. But as well as inmates, Russian citizens have also been left without heating in the midst of a brutal Russian winter.

Residents living in the Moscow region, where temperatures dropped as low as -30C, as well as the Far East Primorye region and St Petersburg, Penza, and the southern Voronezh and Volgograd regions, have all been affected by heating outages.

Authorities have made temporary heating centres available to locals in some regions and declared a state of emergency, while others have been complaining of being left to ‘freeze to death’ in their homes for more than a week. Footage circulating on Telegram shows desperate residents burning wood on the streets to keep warm, while windows and doors are covered with layers of ice.

A protest on the main square of the town broke out on January 5, as residents complained that the temperature in their apartments had dropped to -10°C.

Signs at the protest read: "SOS – We are freezing – Punish the guilty".

In one video, a protester said: "Since yesterday they promise nothing. Grandmothers are freezing at home.* Children dressed in coats are sick, coughing. The hospitals are cold, everywhere is cold.* We need to do something to solve this. Who is responsible is still unclear…we get only excuses."

Russian Opposition Leader Alexei Navalny Has DIED - 'Putin, You Will Answer For What You Did to My Husband'

Alexei Navalnys' tearful wife makes emotional vow after the Russian opposition leader is 'murdered' in prison by 'this evil regime'

MailOnline 16 FEB 2024

Yuliya Navalnaya gave a rousing speech at the Munich Security Conference. Holding back tears she called on the world to hasten Vladimir Putins' downfall

In a defiant and emotional speech today, Yuliya Navalnaya held back her tears to declare: '(Navalny) would have been here, in this hall.

This photo taken from video released by Russian Federal Penitentiary Service shows Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny via a video link from the Arctic penal colony in Kharp, Kovrov, Russia, on Feb. 15, 2024

'I don't know whether you believe the awful news that we received - just from Russian state sources. Because for many years we have not been able to believe Putin and his government, they always lie.

'But if it's true I want Putin, his whole crew and all of his friends to know that will answer for what they have done to our country, my family and my husband. That day will come very soon.

'And I call on the international community, the people in this room, and people everywhere that we fight and beat this evil, this terrible regime in Russia led by Vladimir Putin. They are to be personally held responsible for all the horrible things they have done to us.'

Russian news outlets this afternoon announced Navalny's death - citing the Siberian prison service where he was serving his sentence - but gave no cause of death or further information.

The news sparked shock and anger around the globe, with world leaders and commentators quickly pointing the finger at the Kremlin.

Navalny was 'brutally murdered by the Kremlin,' Latvia's president declared, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was 'obvious' Putin had ordered the dissident's killing.

'Obviously he was killed by Putin. Like thousands of others who have been tortured,' Zelensky declared, citing Navalny's passing as yet more evidence of why Putin must be made to 'lose everything and held accountable for his actions'.

As Putin's fiercest foe, Navalny crusaded against official corruption and staged massive anti-Kremlin protests - drawing the merciless retribution of the Kremlin.

He once survived an assassination attempt involving the Novichok nerve agent, but returned to his homeland upon his recovery, despite knowing he would be arrested.

Ever since, he has been serving time on extremism charges after being sentenced to 19 years behind bars, and in December was moved from a prison in central Russia to a 'special regime' penal colony known as 'Polar Wolf' above the Arctic Circle.

The 47-year-old was last seen via video link during a court hearing on Thursday.

Dressed in black prison uniform, he appeared to be in good spirits - his trademark humour back on show.

'Your Honour, I will send you my personal account number so that you can use your huge salary as a federal judge to ''warm up'' my personal account, because I am running out of money,' he said.

Navalny's mother Lyudmila said she had seen her son in the prison colony on Monday. At the time, she said: 'He was alive, healthy, cheerful.'

A view of the entrance of the prison colony in the town of Kharp, in the Yamalo-Nenetsk region about 1,200 miles northeast of Moscow, Tuesday, January 23, 2024

But the Federal Prison Service said in a statement today that Navalny felt unwell after a walk and lost consciousness. An ambulance arrived to try to save him, to no avail.

Bellingcat journalist Christo Grozev - an ally of Navalany who has followed his trial closely, said: 'I have no doubt that the death of Alexei Navalny is not natural.

'Even propagandist Russian channels, linked to the special services, called this a political assassination. Who are we to doubt their own words?'

Reports of his death prompted shock and anger across Europe.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak paid tribute to the 'fiercest advocate for Russian democracy', saying Navalny was a prominent and persistent critic of Putin who had 'demonstrated incredible courage throughout his life'.

The Prime Minister said: 'This is terrible news. As the fiercest advocate for Russian democracy, Alexei Navalny demonstrated incredible courage throughout his life. My thoughts are with his wife and the people of Russia, for whom this is a huge tragedy.'

Foreign Secretary David Cameron said 'Putin should be accountable' for his death.

Lord Cameron said: 'Navalny fought bravely against corruption. Putin's Russia fabricated charges against him, poisoned him, sent him to an arctic penal colony & now he has tragically died.

'Putin should be accountable for what has happened - no one should doubt the dreadful nature of his regime.'

France's President Emmanuel Macron accused Russia of sentencing 'free spirits to the gulag' and 'condemning them to death,' expressing his 'anger and indignation' and hailing Navalny's 'courage'.

The White House said if confirmed, Navalny's death would be 'a terrible tragedy.'

Speaking on NPR, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also added the Kremlin's 'long and sordid' history of harming its opponents 'raises real and obvious questions about what happened here.'

Vice President Kamala Harris said the US was working to confirm the death of Navalny, adding that it would be a further sign of Putin's brutality.

US president Joe Biden had warned in June 2021 that Putin would face consequences if Navalny died in prison.

But the Kremlin bit back, declaring that the US must not make 'sweeping accusations' about Navalny's passing.

Navalnys' HELL on Earth: Inside Russian Penal Colony Where Rape, Chemical Burns, Poisoning and Violence are Commonplace

The guards are remorseless in their sadism and he was kept in a 10ft x 7ft 'concrete kennel' while temperatures plunged to minus 28C

PUTIN & Netanyahu Will Meet in HELL

Navalny is the latest in a long line of Putin critics who met an early death. Putin critic remained defiant despite facing years of abuse including 2020 attempt on his life

Alexei Navalny was reported to have died in mysterious circumstances in a Russian penal colony after over 3 years in prison.

This feature was published in December and is the latest information available on his incarceration.

The FKU IK-3 penal colony is a Soviet-era prison camp located deep in the Arctic Circle, 1,200 miles north-east of Moscow. Known as the Polar Wolf, it is considered to be one of the toughest prisons in Russia, with the temperature due to drop to minus 28c over the next week.

On Monday, it was revealed to be the new home of President Putins' public enemy No 1 Alexei Navalny.

The cause of his reported death remained unclear, but the news drew a forceful reaction from Western leaders Friday, including US President Joe Biden, who pinned the blame on Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that “what has happened to Navalny is yet more proof of Putin’s brutality.”

Navalny had returned to Russia in 2021 from Germany, where he had been treated after being poisoned with Novichok, a Soviet-era nerve agent. On arrival, Navalnvy was swiftly arrested on charges he dismissed as politically motivated.

He has been incarcerated ever since, with longstanding concerns for his welfare growing more intense after he was transferred to a penal colony north of the Arctic Circle.

The Russian prison service on Friday said Navalny “felt unwell after a walk” and “almost immediately” lost consciousness. It said it was investigating his “sudden death.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin had been informed of the reports and that it is for doctors to determine the cause of Navalny’s death

“As far as we’re aware, in accordance with all the rules, the prison service is carrying out checks and clarifications,” Peskov told reporters. Asked about reports that the death involved a blood clot, he replied: “I don’t know. Doctors must find it out.”

Navalnys’ Body Found Bruised in Arctic Morgue- Alexei Was Poisoned by Novichok - His Widow VOWS to Continue His Work.

Yulia Navalnaya Accused The Russians of Blocking The Family From Seeing His Body

Injuries found on opposition leaders' head and chest when his body was brought to local hospital, but no autopsy has yet been performed, in order to allow traces of the nerve agent to disappear from his system.

MailOnline 19 FEB 2024

In a video message, Yulia Navalnya, 47, said: 'Vladimir Putin killed my husband. 'By killing Alexei, Putin killed half of me - half of my heart and half of my soul,' Navalnaya said.'

Navalnys' death was announced on Friday afternoon

Leaked footage showed motorcade taking Alexei Navalnys' body out of Arctic prison in the dead of night.

Navalny, Putin critic, poisoned with Novichok, died in prison. Wife demands accountability; Kremlin denies involvement. Alexei Navalny, a prominent critic of the Kremlin, died in prison after being arrested for violating the terms of his parole.

A midnight motorcade that is suspected to have taken Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny's corpse out of his Arctic prison has been caught on video - as his family were refused access to his body for the third day.

A prison van believed to be carrying the corpse was seen in a convoy of prison vehicles and two highway patrol police cars.

One car was unmarked - possibly an FSB security service escort.

The convoy set off from the strict regime colony where Navalny was imprisoned in a temperature of minus 30C on the day of his death.

Navalny, 47, is widely believed among his supporters and Western experts to have been murdered by Vladimir Putin's regime ahead of next month's Russian presidential election.

The widow of dead Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has today blamed Vladimir Putin for her husband's death in prison and accused the Kremlin of hiding his body to allow traces of poison to disappear.

In a video message, Yulia Navalnya, 47, said: 'Vladimir Putin killed my husband.'

Holding back tears, she pledged to carry on her husband's work and fight for a free Russia with the help of its citizens.

'I want to live in a free Russia, I want to build a free Russia,' she said the video message entitled 'I will continue the work of Alexei Navalny'.

Navalnaya accused the Russian authorities of hiding Navalny's body and of waiting for traces of the Novichok nerve agent to disappear from his body.

UK Sanctions BRUTAL Prison Bosses at Arctic Penal Colony Where Alexei Navalny Died

Six Russian officials working at the IK-3 penal colony in the Arctic, nicknamed Polar Wolf, are now banned from the UK and subject to an asset freeze preventing UK companies and individuals from dealing with them

MailOnline 22 FEB 2024

From behind bars in Siberia, prominent opposition figure Vladimir Kara-Murza on Thursday urged Russians not to give up after the death of Alexei Navalny and alleged there is a state-backed hit squad taking out opponents of President Vladimir Putin, according to a video posted on a social media channel.

A British-Russian citizen, Kara-Murza is serving a 25-year sentence for treason. He spoke from his prison cell while appearing via video link in court over a complaint against Russia's Investigative Committee for what he believes were two poisoning attempts against him. He claimed the committee didn't investigate the attempts properly.

Kara-Murza is one of several key opposition figures behind bars in Russia, while others are abroad or dead. He was found guilty of criticizing Russia's war in Ukraine and was handed a draconian sentence as part of an ongoing crackdown by Russian authorities against critics of the war and freedom of speech.

In January, he was moved to a prison in Siberia and placed in solitary confinement over an alleged minor infraction.

"We owe it ... to our fallen comrades to continue to work with even greater strength and achieve what they lived and died for," Kara-Murza said in the footage. The video was shared by the Russian Sota telegram channel.

Kara-Murza says the attempts to poison him took place in 2015 and 2017. In the first, he nearly died of kidney failure - though no cause was determined. He was hospitalized with a similar illness in 2017 and put into a medically induced coma. His wife said doctors confirmed he was poisoned.

Alexei Navalny Was Killed by a KGB Trademark -Single Punch to The Heart, Russian Human Rights Campaigner Claims

Russian exile Vladimir Osechkin said his information came from a prison source

Alexei was likely killed by a single punch to the heart, a technique used by the KGB, a source inside the prison where the Putin critic was being held has reportedly claimed.

Bruising found on the opposition leaders' body was consistent with the 'one-punch' execution method, according to Russian exile and human rights campaigner Vladimir Osechkin.

'It is an old method of the KGB's special forces divisions,' he told The Times. 'They trained their operatives to kill a man with one punch in the heart, in the centre of the body. It was a hallmark of the KGB.'

Osechkin, founder of the Gulagu.net group which gathers testimony from prisoners and workers in Russia's notorious jails, says his information came from a source working in the arctic penal colony where Navalny died on Friday.

His widow has accused Putin of murdering her husband, claiming he was poisoned with the nerve agent Novichok and that Russian authorities are trying to cover up the assassination by refusing to release his body.

UK Sanctions BRUTAL Prison Bosses at Arctic Penal Colony

A picture taken on April 19, 2021 shows an exterior view of the IK-3 penal colony where jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny was reportedly transferred in the city of Vladimir

Six brutal individuals at the head of the Arctic penal colony where Alexei Navalny died have been sanctioned by the British government.

The six Russian officials working at the IK-3 penal colony in the Arctic, nicknamed Polar Wolf, are now banned from the UK and subject to an asset freeze preventing UK companies and individuals from dealing with them. Britain has become the first country to impose measures in response to the politician's death, which has been widely blamed on warmonger President Vladimir Putin, the Foreign Office said.

Vadim Konstantinovich Kalinin, who allegedly oversaw the brutal prison camp where Alexei was kept in solitary confinement for up to two weeks at a time, is among those sanctioned, according to a statement from the department on Wednesday.

The others sanctioned are his deputies: Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Nikolaevich Korzhov, Lieutenant Colonel Vasily Alexandrovich Vydrin, Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Ivanovich Pilipchik, Lieutenant Colonel Aleksandr Vladimirovich Golyakov and Colonel Aleksandr Valerievich Obraztsov.

Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron said: "It's clear that the Russian authorities saw Navalny as a threat and they tried repeatedly to silence him. FSB operatives poisoned him with Novichok in 2020, they imprisoned him for peaceful political activities, and they sent him to an Arctic penal colony. No-one should doubt the oppressive nature of the Russian system.

That's why we're today sanctioning the most senior prison officials responsible for his custody in the penal colony where he spent his final months.

Those responsible for Navalnys' brutal treatment should be under NO illusion - we WILL hold them accountable."

Russian Human Rights Activist Oleg Orlov Jailed Over Ukraine War Opposition

Oleg Orlov was sentenced to two and a half years in jail for "discrediting" the Russian armed forces

BBC News 28 FEB 2024

As soon as he enters the Moscow courtroom, Oleg Orlov makes crystal clear his feelings about being put on trial for criticising the war in Ukraine.

The veteran Russian human rights defender opens his briefcase and takes out a book. He holds it up to the TV cameras. The title is End of the Regime.

Oleg Orlov looked calm as he sat waiting for the judge to deliver the verdict.

Russian authorities are swiftly and harshly cracking down on any dissent against those in power

Room 518 in the courthouse was packed with well-wishers, foreign ambassadors and journalists...

The judge entered the courtroom and began reading out the verdict.

She declared the veteran human rights campaigner guilty of "repeatedly discrediting" the Russian armed forces.

Having named the crime, she announced the punishment: Oleg Orlov, co-chair of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organisation "Memorial", was sent to prison for two and a half years.

He was handcuffed and, minutes later, led out of the courtroom by police.

This had been a re-trial.

In October 2023, the court had delivered a guilty verdict, too. But the punishment then had been considerably milder.

Oleg Orlov had received a 150,000 rouble fine (£1,290; $1,630) and walked free. Prosecutors complained that the sentence was too soft. A higher court cancelled the ruling, and a re-trial was ordered.

It was a sign that in Russia the authorities were becoming increasingly intolerant of public criticism.

In protest at being forced back to court, Oleg Orlov paid little attention to proceedings second time round. Instead, he sat in court reading a copy of The Trial, Franz Kafka's classic on the absurdity of life and injustice.

When I interviewed him last year ahead of his first trial, he insisted he had done nothing wrong.

"The article I'm being tried under is 'Public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Russian armed forces for protecting the interests of the Russian Federation and its citizens, and preserving international peace and security'," he told me.

"First of all, the Russian Constitution guarantees freedom of speech. I wrote an article presenting my assessment of events. Prosecuting me for that violates the constitution.

"Secondly, what is happening in Ukraine - let's be clear and call it a war - it is against the interests of Russia and Russian citizens.

"As for 'preserving international peace and security', that's a joke. It reminds me of George Orwell's 'War is Peace' and 'Freedom is Slavery'. Claiming that the war in Ukraine is 'in the interests of international peace' is just nonsense," he said.

This week, in his closing statement at the re-trial, Oleg Orlov spoke of a Russia that is "sinking ever more deeply into darkness."

He gave examples: the death in prison of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, judicial reprisals against other government critics. He summed up what was happening in his country as "the suffocation of freedom."

"We know the real reason why we're being detained, tried, arrested, sentenced and killed. We are being punished for daring to criticise the authorities. In present-day Russia this is absolutely prohibited," he said.

Addressing the judge and the prosecutor, he added: "Doesn't the obvious occur to you? That sooner or later, the machine of repression may roll over those who launched it and drove it forward? That's what happened many times throughout history."

Oleg Orlov is not the first government critic in Russia to have a fine upgraded to a prison sentence. Last year prominent sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky was found guilty of "public justification of terrorism" for comments he'd made about the attack on the Crimean bridge in 2022. In this case, too, the prosecution appealed the sentence. Earlier this month a court sent Mr Kagarlitsky to prison for five years.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years ago, the Russian authorities have put together a hefty toolbox of repressive laws which can be employed to punish critics of the government and opponents of the war in Ukraine.

As well as criminalising "discreditation" of the army, Russia's criminal code now punishes what it calls "the public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Russian armed forces".

Often referred to as the "Law on Fakes", it has been used to imprison such vocal Kremlin critics as Ilya Yashin.

Last year, Kremlin critic and anti-war activist Vladimir Kara-Murza was convicted of treason and sentenced to 25 years in a prison colony.

These are dark days for the Russian opposition.

Alexei Navalny, one of the most charismatic critics of the Kremlin, is dead; other leading figures are in prison or have fled into exile.

Alexei is to be buried on Friday in Moscow

'Claiming that the war in Ukraine is 'in the interests of international peace' is just nonsense."Oleg Orlov, Kremlin critic

For now, it seems that Vladimir Putins most vocal critics and potential rivals have been removed from the political stage.

Ring of Steel of Police Surround Hundreds of Mourners at Navalnys' Funeral.

Dozens of Alexei Navalny supporters are detained by Russian police after thousands flocked to Putin critic's funeral. The ceremony took place in Moscow two weeks after he died in an Arctic prison on 16 February

MailOnline 2 MAR 2024

At least 67 people have been detained by Russian police as thousands across the country mourned the death of Alexei Navalny.

Arrests took place 'in 16 towns' across Russia, including six in Moscow where the funeral of Vladimir Putin's most feared critic was held.

The ceremony took place under a huge police presence as thousands defied the president's warnings and descended on the capital.

Some 18 people were detained in Siberian city Novosibirsk alone, according to OVD-Info.

It is believed that arrests were also made in the cities of Ekaterinburg and Novosibirsk in central Russia.

Mourners following the hearse in Moscow threw red carnations as it passed and could be heard shouting 'Putin is a murderer' and 'Russia will be free'.

There were also unconfirmed reports that Navalny's supporters were arrested as they left their homes to attend the funeral.

The Kremlin had warned that action would be taken against any 'unauthorised protests' on the day of Navalny's funeral, with 400 having been arrested for laying flowers at memorial sites following the outspoken politician's death two weeks ago.

Riot police, who wore balaclavas, lined the streets around the Russian Orthodox church and police snipers could be spotted on roofs near the scene.

BRUTAL Hammer Attack on Alexei Navalny Aide in Exile in Lithuania, Carried Out by Russia

Navalny Aide Calls His Hammer Attack a Typical Criminal Hello From Putin -Vows Not to Give Up

MailOnline 14 MAR 2024

VILNIUS, Lithuania (AP) - A close associate of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny accused Russian President Vladimir Putin´s "henchmen" on Wednesday of being behind a brutal attack that left him hospitalized.

Police said an assailant attacked Leonid Volkov on Tuesday as he arrived in a car at his Vilnius home, where he lives in exile. The attacker smashed one of his car´s windows, sprayed tear gas into his eyes and hit him with a hammer, police said.

Volkov suffered a broken arm "and for now he cannot walk because of the severe bruising from the hammer blows," according to Navalny´s The Anti-Corruption Foundation.

He was hospitalized, but later released, and vowed Wednesday to keep up his work.

"We will work, we will not give up," 43-year-old Volkov said in a short video posted on Telegram on Wednesday, speaking with his arm bandaged and in a sling. "It was a characteristic bandit greeting from Putin´s henchmen." This seemed to be a reference to both Putin´s thuggish style and his stint as a deputy mayor of St. Petersburg in the 1990s when it was considered one of the most criminal cities in Russia.

Police have launched a criminal investigation.
