Meryl Streep Splits From Husband of 45 Years and Reveals Their Six-Year Separation

It has been announced that Devil Wears Prada actress Meryl Streep and her husband of more than 45 years have parted ways, with the couple even living separate lives

Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep and her husband of 45 years, Don Gummer, have split up, with them also revealing their six-year separation.

In a statement released to Page Six, a spokesperson said that the couple "have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart."

The couple share four children together from their lengthy marriage. Meryl and Don are parents to Henry Wolfe, 43; Mamie Gummer, 40; Grace Gummer, 37; and Louisa Jacobson, 30. They also have five grandchildren.

Meryl, who is famed for her many film credits in hit blockbuster flicks like Mamma Mia! and The Devil Wears Prada, was first introduced to Don by her brother back in 1978. After getting married in that same year and then starting their family in the years that followed, the family moved into a lavish private estate in Connecticut in 1985.

After residing in their $1.8 million private estate in Connecticut, they then bought a $3million mansion in Brentwood, Los Angeles, in 1990 before later moving back to Connecticut.

Not much is known about the couple's relationship as they kept it mostly out of the public eye. But when asked about her marriage in 2002, she said that the secret behind their long union was: "Goodwill and willingness to bend — and to shut up every once in a while."

At the time, in the chat with Vogue, she added: "There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life."
Meryl's split from Don has shocked the world after she was spotted wearing her wedding ring at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023 during the week. And five years ago at the 2018 Oscars, the couple even posed together, despite them reportedly being separated at the time.
